Oh yes...Xbox was new on the shelves, Christmas was about to arrive and I was about to take my first step into the world of consoles. Christmas arrived with my Xbox and a copy of Morrowind. From my uncle, came a little package. It contained Munches Oddysee. After some time with Morrowind, I started to play with MO. I liked the characters and their quirky world, though not enough to launch me into fandom. Then I got to the Brewry to Be level. Something clicked. This world felt real. I possesed one of the scrabs and I just ran around watching 'em for a little while. I sat up and started to pay attention to this world. And here we are.
I became one when I was about five. I sat watching my brother (whose name is Gabe, so I can ridicule at him now) play for hours, days at a time. He taught me how to play, and now it's somewhat 'fixed' me. I thought that something so scrawny could get past all that other stuff, well... wow. I'm not as, how should I word it, spookable anymore. And for some odd reson I became more literate, on the omputer and in the real world. Quite funny really, and after I got my tonsils removed, I could sound like anything off the game, including sligs. I creep my friends out when I do that.
But, alas, my mother does not like it. I had all of the games (AO AE and MO) in a cool collectors box thing and my mother watched me play for a bit. When I returned from my fun day, it was ruined. Where my box had been was only a note saying 'These games will corrupt your mind, hun. I sold them to slackers, but I did get you something new.'. The new thing was morrowind. I have beaten Dagoth Ur (the big guy) and put the game to rest (letting my dad obsess over it). Never have I seen my games (I wrote my name on the front of each disk, and they still took them) in my twelve year old life (yes, I'm twelve). But something tells me... I'm still not back to full reality. |
I became one when my uncle showed me abes oddysee 6 years ago.
I first became a fan back when Abe's Oddysee first came out...I was with my dad at Fred Meyer's, and I saw the box for it in the software section of the store...As soon as I saw Abe, I was in love...It wasn't until a couple years after that when I got Abe's Exoddus, and I only got Abe's Oddysee around last Christmas...
sorry to dissapoint you tentacle orgy but you are only alowed on image per sig so you will have to get rid of one of the fetus
the thing that anoys my mum about ao and ae is when the sligs go what. and that was not fair what you'r mother did silent hunter |
Well, I was attracted by the posters of the OW creatures in my local gamestore and immediately anticipated the day this game came out (AO). I remember I was sick but still hauled myyself out to pick up the first game. I got exodus the day it came out. I just got an XBOX, so about 3 weeks ago I got and beat SW and three days later picked up MO and beat it.
wow you must have been playing for hours on end
Well, it took me 2 days to beat SW and also two to beat MO.
Being as how i just saw this thread, Ive been a fan since September 2004 after my dad had a quadruple bypass and he bought a playstation w/ 10 games (one being AO) to keep himself busy while he recovered.
I became a fan when i was 8 looking through the game section in some catalog when i saw the picture of AO i didnt even know what it was but i liked how abe looked so i told my mom i wanted it for christmas. when i got it i almost s*it myself with excitement from the intro mivie when i started playin i didnt know what 2 do i thought you had to fight the sligs with slaps or farts until i knew how to chant. then i beat the game in 3 months got AE beat in about 4 months MO in4 days SW in 2 days its my favorit vide game franchise
i only became a real fan after playing Strangers Wrath....AO,AE,MO dident intrest me to much...but now i see where i was wrong...

they would shoot me but i didnt know how to kill them or 2 get past until i knew the chant after like 4 days i knew how to beat it
Believe it or otherwise, I was actually sucked into the vortex that is the Oddworld universe before ever playing one second of the game (Demos don't count). I simply came to the site and researched the world that Leorne and co. created...and I was totally blown away. The creatures, the locals, the rich sense of history. They didn't make a game, they created a whole world. I immediately connected with it (I was attracted to anything bizzare and out of the ordinary). A few years later, I actually hunted down and bought AO.
Since then, Oddworld has become my favorite game series, even eclipsing the long time runner Sonic. |
on the demo in ao I coulden't work out how to get past the sleeping slig then I found out about chanting
Very informative Stingbee...
It is possible to leave Rupturefarms without learning how to chant. You're supposed to learn about chanting in the Monsaic Lines. However that does mean that you have to restart the game so that you can save all the muds in the secrets. |
Oh, was it actually ment for you to go through the first two (i think) levels without chanting, or are you just stating it is possible?
I became a fan when i was walking down to a game store I walked in, I saw some posters of Oddworld and asked the clerk if they have it.The clerk said, "yeah we have it." I bought it, I loaded it in and when i first saw the FMV I was lke what amazing graphics! It was like I was addicted. (By the way, it was AO.)

:
2) I guess it was to improve the replay value, it worked for me, I replayed the game right after I finished it, trying to rescue all the muds |
well it is a pain working you'r way through the first level of the game just to come back and do it again.the ao demo came on a free demo disc when I first had a playstation
:
I actually finished the rupturefarms level (but not the stockyards) without possessing any sligs but I looked at a walkthrough when I realised I hadn't saved all the muds. |
:
:p |
well is supose it's just a training level like so you learn the basics but 2 screens after the falling meat bit it teaches you about possesing
I became a fan of oddworld the first time I played it in the demo of 1997. then, it was my first game. I loved it because the story was incredible and the game was so difficult. And I love challenges...
I first became a fan of Oddworld way back in '97 as well, when I first got my PlayStation it came with a demo. It was the first game I picked (I don't know why- fate maybe? :p) and I was hooked straight away.
First time I saw Munch. I remember trying to make a hybrid of Munch and Ed from Ed, Edd and Eddy and call him my own (Hey, I was 12! I was a really dumb kid!) But I lost the website for a while and found it again a few years later. I came to El Oddworld-o Forums-o to ask a question (that had obviously been asked many times before. I was hooked on the depth of the games.
well I became totally mad for oddworld when I played the demo for munch's oddysee in a shop it was the snoozie labs level
I definately became a fan when I first got into playing Abe's Oddysee soon after it came out and was brought by my brother.
I remember getting a sticker in a PS magazine with a picture of an injured Abe on, saying that Munch's Oddysee was coming soon. I loved that sticker, and sparked so many drawings of what Munch could possibly look like from myself. All my designs look more like a mudokon than a gabbit :p such is life with no other information. I never even contemplated using the internet for finding info on Oddworld for ages, and when I did, I didn't join the forums for a very long time, preferring to simply read threads. |

but xavier even if he does still has the sticker it might be curled up if he stuck it some where
When I got, I stuck it to my wardrobe, which I have since replaced. I could never recover it. :(
It basically had Abe in his shrug stance, with a broken and cast arm, and possibly, if I remember correctly, with a broken and cast left. On it, stamped like the "Only on Xbox" thing on some Xbox games, was "Coming Soon: Munch's Oddysee" with "Playstation 2" in a corner. It was a really only PS1 magazine, way before there was any info on the PS2. |
ouch what happened to him
Yeah, Xav, thats it. I remember that picture from awhile ago too.
it was supposed to be in MO to show the health status of a mudokon.
well I think that would be more cooler in mo.this sounds creepy but after seeing you'r photo on oddblog I thought I seen you when I was heading to town on the bus the bus was pulling in to the space when I thought I seen you walking down the station but then I thought na coulden't be he live in belgium
