They have to learn a whole new langueg just to talk to us?, when most of the time they are dissed and robbed off a thread?, ask yourself that.

Well of course... What did you expect them to learn?? Chinese?? lol kidding.. :p

Well, i'm just saying that people could make an effort in putting some puncation in their posts, i mean c'mon, it can be that hard... Then rather missplace them, than not containing any.
Yes, they have to learn a whole new language, or else they wont be able to talk to us... When i was younger, and entered this forum, i always a diactionary next to me, in chase i saw an unknown word. Now, i just use MS Word's thesaurus, it's really helping, and takes lesser time than using the diactionary. Though i still use the diactionary when i don't understand the word, even after using the thesaurus.
I'd suggest doing the same, if you're not good at writing english.

Whut?? I never said anything about capatalization:fuzconf:
I guess that the human hears what he wants to hear.

What i meant was, that i someone writes a message without using punctation and commas, i don't get anything of it. I just have re-read it untill i have a slight idea of what he meant. It's really annoying.

Oh, and why did you have to write that??? I don't get it. If you have any problem with me, then PM me, and we'll sort it out.

not you.

i have no beef with you.

let's be friends!

They nearly all learn English at school anyway. Most Germans speak better English than the first language-ers.

As opposed to what, exactly? Speaking in their native tongue that nobody understands? This forum is accepted as being a primarily English speaking forum - not multi-lingual. (Though I don't think rules exist forbidding foreign languages) Other forums can accomodate needs for different languages, such as the German-speaking Oddworld forum.

:

And why people always make threads here about people arguing is stupid.
It's not so much about people arguing, as about people needlessly attacking (flaming, if you will) other members for minor things, such as spelling mistakes or lack of understanding. We're not an elitist society. Much.

Discourse on boards like this seem to fall in to the same pattern, debate turns to argument, argument turns to name calling. The gut-level lashout is at best a childish response, but it seems a rather popular way to communicate in a number of the forums here. i guess i have become used to it, almost expect it.

What i can`t get a grip on are the members who blast other members in the WELCOME THREAD, for f#*k sake!! " Hi, welcome to our forum, you sorry-ass, drool`n moron, you don`t know shit, and your pissing me off". Way to through out the mat.

In my welcome thread a pointlessly malicious poster ( who, it would seem has vanished ) told me that if i messed with him , i would get such a vicious verbal beating that i may never post again. Now that`s something to look forward to.
That kind of crap makes me want to bait the jurk, but i am sure it would put a number of people off. :fuzmad:

*Looks at Voodoo Hand's welcome thread* Something should have been done about that post. I've noticed that there's been an increase of garbage in the Welcomes and Birthdays forum.

Along with Voodoo's thread, at least two others come to mind that had problems. The most recent would be the welcome thread of Agent-Sarah with some pointless debate over the effects of sugar to the body and whatnot. The other one is that of Angel-FoX-crescent, which went on and on with just random, pointless chatter. I personally think the moderators may need to monitor what goes on in that forum a bit more.

And what of those whos first languege* isn't english?.

I don't think we've ever had a problem with people whose first language is not English. This may be because a) they are conscious of the fact that they are not as good so they are more careful and b) their problems tend to be small spelling mistakes rather than full-scale grammatical genocide.

If you look through various threads there has been little or no accusations directed at non-english speakers but there have been plenty at people like yourself who just can't be bothered trying. So don't even try defending a minority who doesn't need it.

Majic 02-28-2005 08:55 PM

In regards to language, I simply prefer letting whatever crap is spewed pass, unless it's just entirely unintelligible. It's more of a hassle to play grammar police, than to quietly accept internet superiority. The same goes for a thread with spam/banter, also known as chit chat. Attempting to set a thread straight tends to result in nothing but flaming, grudges, and people making themselves look like jackasses. If you feel a member is being hostile or rude, a thread is degrading into nothingness, or there are administrative problems, the easiest solution is a pm/email to a staff member. Unless it's a nitpick, no moderator is going to hate you for making their job that much easier.

Lesson of the day: don't cause undo stress. There are at least 3 or 4 members here that may actually make something of their lives. Destroying their outlook on humanity will not help the race.

Alpha, as I have said every single time I speak of l-a-n-g-u-a-g-e, I usually say "Unless it is your second language". I aint that horrible, honest! Except in real life... Anyways, if english is your second language, that is great. It shows you know one more language than most of us. And then,
:

We can overlook spelling and grammarical errors.

Huzzah! I quote myself :p But, indeed, if english is your second language, and you are flamed for grammarical errors/ spelling errors, complain until they are eaten alive. Seriously. When flaming is used in these instances, it should not be tolerated.

capitalization is nothing to get your panties in a bunch over, fascist.

the thing about you people advocating immaculate English[barring some] is that you hardly have a grasp of it yourself.

i may not capitalize, but i get my point acrossed.

the thing is, it's not a huge issue. when someone is typing purely in leet-speak, then i can see where it's an issue.

but it really isn't that big a deal if you can understand what the person is saying.

i say you just take some Midol and stop bitching.

as for the thing about 'fighting in the real world', this is not the real world.

this is a controlled community that holds a miniscule sample of the overall population.

as such, it can be stopped.

i know i've been belligerent in a few posts, but i'm just saying.

Ugh, this is pathetic.
You're picking at everything I say, so here, I'll just give you a few:

I pronounce my name fac - si - mile
Sometimes I say 'me' as the first name whilst naming a group of people.
I sometimes add the suffix 'ness' and 'age' to the end of words that either already have a suffix or don't need one.
Today after school I said 'Well that was a wasteless point of time' and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with what I had said for about thirty seconds.

There you go. See you on the other side of my ignore list.

SeaRex 03-01-2005 03:21 AM

Ugh, speaking of unnecessary hostility...

Can you two just... stop?

Really now. One of you be the bigger man and stop.

Alpha 03-01-2005 11:07 AM

Funny isn't it?, esus starts a thread about unecessary friction and we start fighting. Kinda dumb though

T-nex 03-01-2005 01:50 PM

Well, that happens when you create a thread about unnecessary friction. Poeple start fighting.

Esus 03-01-2005 02:00 PM

I think 'unnecessary' has been used too much in this thread.

oh dude, you just owned.

i'm not really picking at anything. i'm making a point.

mechanics of the language are such a huge deal to everyone here. that makes sense if it's completely impossible to understand, but that's about the only scenario.

and i'm not even really fighting with you, you big baby. i made a little jab. grow up.
