Just got back from 'Fahrenheit 9/11.'

I must say I'm impressed. I went into the theater thinking the whole movie would be pure garbage and it turned out that only half of the movie was pure garbage. Surprisingly enough, Moore's bias and the way-out-of-context quotes didn't take away from his general message... which is... Bush is bad.

It had it's moments and the film generally got better when it started dealing with the war in Iraq. The plot structure was basically "Intro/Bush's election ---> Ties between Bush/Saudis/Bin-laden family ---> War in Iraq." The friendly US relations with Saudi Arabia segment was basically Moore just listing off the names of random people and conglomerates in the same format accompanied by weak accusations that were as unimportant as they were boring. However, the movie started to pick up when it moved to some good ole' mudslinging about US retaliation against the 9/11 attacks.

So, if you're a lefty (or just plain anti-American), go see it. If you're conservative, this movie probably won't change your mind about anything. Therefore, you shouldn't give your hard-earned money to a man you're going to end up hating by the end of the movie.

As a respectable documentary, I give it a -1 out of 5. As a truth-bending propaganda film, I give it a 4 out of 5.

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 12:50 PM

As much as I hate America I won't bother to see it. I've had my fill of 9/11 crap, ditto with Dubya and his confusing ranting with his annoying cowboy voice. I'll just wait for the official reviews and claim I saw it if it's any good box-office wise.

Evangelion movie?! How could I, one of the greatest anime fans, miss this. SeaRex must be laughing at me by now. :dead:

Alien Vs Predator? Visit their website (guess the address). It looks pretty good, especially the part about the teenage Predators, I could just see them drinking beer and having a dorm party with a group of Predator cheerleaders. :D
It's supposed to be a much better VS movie than Freddy VS Jason, and as much of a Freddy and Jason fan I am, that movie was not what I expected considering it was the winning script out of thousands of others. Alien Vs Predator will be better, you'll see. I think so because the Predators and Xenomorphs were always serious, respected, killers.

Shell Man 07-05-2004 01:18 PM

Bush doesn't need Moore to make him look like a dumbass, but I still respect what Moore's doing all the same. Even if Farenheit 911 is alot of hype, it only means that what goes around comes around, and Bush should be hyped out of office.

nads 07-05-2004 02:14 PM

I saw the trailer for AvP yesterday and my brother had a heart attack. He loves aliens and predators both. So, he pissed his pants in amazment during it.

I know one thing about it...a pred uses a nuke on a temple and it's all blue-white and spec-****ing-tacular

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 02:18 PM

The creator says that there will be alternate/multiple endings, the one with the nuke was "predators lose" ending, the last predators are fighting off an army of Xenomorphs when they finally activate their self-destruct wristbands. A heroic way to go out.

nads 07-05-2004 02:26 PM

How will the endings work? Will they show them all in theaters?

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 02:29 PM

Not sure. I know that they can print 2 versions of the movie and they may have alternate theatres for which one you want to see. When they release it on DVD you'll probly have the option of selecting which ending you want before starting the movie.

TheRaisin 07-05-2004 02:35 PM

Dear lord, I hope not. Alternate endings should be reserved for special edition DVDs, not the big screen.

I personally hope the Predators win, mainly because the aliens have been done to death. They have what, five Alien movies? And one Predator? Yeah, I definitely have a higher tolerance for Predators than Aliens. And besides that, Predators are cooler. They remind me of the Kilrathi in Wing Commander.

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 02:36 PM

:

And one Predator?

There's two Predator movies, you mop :p

TheRaisin 07-05-2004 02:48 PM

Really? Was there a Predator 2 or something? Well still, Alien movies outnumber Predator movies at least two to one.

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 02:54 PM

Predator 2. He crash landed in the city. There's a scene at the end inside the spaceship and on the wall you can see a Xenomorph skull hinting that they have hunted the Aliens aswell.

SeaRex 07-05-2004 02:57 PM

I'm actually quite curious to see what a mature Xenomorph looks like after it has popped out of a predator.

Human Xenomorph = Cool.
Dog Xenomorph = Lame.
Weird human resurrection clone baby Xenomorph = Hella stupid lame.
Predator Xenomorph = Sounds cool, but will probably be ultra super hella stupid lame.

Yes. Tootyfruityjudgejudylootyrudychasesomebooty stupid. I hate when you hear about something really cool and it turns out like crap. (like the matrix :robot: )

I really wanted to see that, since I consider myself a political individual...but I probably won't see it until it comes to PPV.

*preparing myself to reveal my ignorance*

Umm... I've never seen predator. What's he/she/it look like and what are his/her/its superpowers (so to speak)

SeaRex 07-05-2004 04:26 PM

Predator pics:

http://images.google.com/images?q=tb...n/predator.jpg

Predators are basically intergalactic hunter type people. I lurve them SO HARD because they collect skulls and put 'em on their wall. They have a shoulder-mounted gun with a laser guide, a cloaking device, and bunches of cool vision effects (heat, x-ray, electromagnetic, etc).

They also have some kinda honor code thingy. If they're "defeated" they self-destruct.

[/geek]

They, unlike Xenomorphs, are not evil per say, they are just hunters with very strict lives. In the second predator movie, they let the hero live because he was a worthy opponent thus proving that they are not evil, just honorable hunters who like a good foe.

Spoilers for Spiderman 2:

I haven't read this whole thread, so some of this may have been mentioned.
Spiderman was always going to be a trilogy, they said that before the first one came out. And (don't hold me to this) the next Goblin will not be the Hob Goblin, because that was someone else, but in the course of the comic books (which I have never read) there were a bout six Green Goblins, which that guy will be the next of. Now after Spiderman 1 came out I did a bit of research and the confirmed villains for Spiderman 2 were Lizard, Doc Ock, and there was one more they hadn't said yet. What the hell happened? Where did they all go? I know it would have been very hard to have three bad guys but they could have taken out all that crap in the middle of the movie where he loses his powers for an unexplained reason. Now seeing that they can't do more than one villain, who is outright pissed off that there will most likely be no symbiotes? I am!! Venom is an awesome character, and Carnage is my favourite!

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 06:05 PM

Yes, I wanna see Venom in one of the movies.

Mac the Janitor 07-05-2004 08:27 PM

Those were some of the only scenes that provoked laughter from me. You have to admit... they were pretty damn funny.

Other scenes that made me giggle (SPOILERS):
  • Train scene. New York stereotypes predictably "stand up" to Doc Ock so they can protect Spidey. New Yorkers: "Oh yeah? Well if you want him blah blah blah go through me first!" Doc : "Fine." SMACK! Oh, how I laughed. I was on the verge of applauding, but then I realized that no one else in the theater found Doc smashing up a bunch of pedestrians funny. So I didn't.
  • MJ: "Peter... I've always been in your doorway!" Umm... WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!
  • Hospital tentacle massacre scene. Near perfect, except for the fact that the asian chick somehow managed peel a metal floor with her fingertips when she was being dragged to her death. Feh...
On a completely unrelated note, I just got finished watching "The Triplets of Belleville." Not exactly a summer movie, but pretty good none the less. Nice exaggerated art style.

Don't forget

"Punch me and I'll bleed".

-OR-

"Peter, we cant get off if we were never on in the first place."

Both of those had me laughing out loud for a while. These writers should be shot.

But I really loved the movie, very entertaining. Sure, it wasn't all too original or anything special, but I liked how creative they got with the action.

Kirsten Dunst is a TERRIBLE actress though. Ugh.

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 08:49 PM

:

Kirsten Dunst is a TERRIBLE actress though. Ugh.

Yeah. But she has a nice ass. :D

And as for "punch me and I'll bleed" line, I was just waiting for someone to punch him.

oddguy 07-05-2004 08:55 PM

"It kinda rides up in the crotch."

-SpiderMan refering to his suit.

Sekto Springs 07-05-2004 09:00 PM

"It kinda rides up the crotch".

Of course the studio editing bastard children changed it to "sometimes it gives me a wedgie" in the commercials.

Coiled Ice 07-06-2004 02:57 AM

Seed of Chucky!! Is that true, are they really making a 5th Child's Play? Oh my ghoul! I'm definately seeing it...

Alien VS Predator actually sounds pretty cool...

Jacob 07-06-2004 10:25 AM

Predators also don't kill people who are unarmed, from what i'm aware anyway. I haven't seen the second Pred movie for ages, but i'm sure he left that Pregnant woman unscathed.

Didn't the other Predators kill the main Pred in the second movie though, for being un-honoury or something?

On the alternative ending note, i hope that it's not just the endings that are different, but a vast proportion of the film. Because if they are going to go and show different endings in different theatres, then i find it doubtful only the hardest coreness of fans would go and see the movie 2-3 times [that's if there's an ending for Marines or whatever as well] just for the last 10 minutes.

On the Spiderman 2 topic, i hoped that The Lizard was in the film as well, they could have had a thooperlicious scene in where Doc Ock was about to do something outrageously bad or something, and then have The Lizard leap out of nowhere and do some vicious rolling about [like Spiderman was trying to stop The Lizard, Doc Ock comes in, not seeing The Lizard, and thinks Spiderman is trying to find a way to stop him, then the Lizard appears all "Grrr-Arrrg" and does some rectum wrecking]. Oh yes, ooohhh yes.

On Spidey 3 villains, i hope that they have Venom and Carnage in, even if it's a small cameo for Venom, and then a possible spin-off for Venoms story, although i have no idea how that'd work. But i heard that they're going to have that Electric guy in the 3rd...hmmm...poo.

Saying that, i've been thinking that a 'Blade Vs Spiderman' movie would be quite interesting and good to see, only if it got an 18 rating though, so it could have all the juicyness of Blade in. Oh and a good writer. The 3rd Blade is s'posed to be set in a Vamparic world, which sounds poo.

Esus 07-06-2004 11:18 AM

On another AvP note, the concept art for the 'predaliens' looks really quite cool. Much better than I expected.
Only one ending will be shown in the movies, other endings will be available to see on the DVD much like some in the new alien boxset ones.

TheRaisin 07-06-2004 11:25 AM

Praise the lord.

Shell Man 07-06-2004 01:06 PM

I think Danny Glover ended up killing him in the ship. The Preditor had tried to self destruct, but Glover destroyed the device and severed the Preditor's arm with his own razor-disc weapon. (He kills the Preditor with it at the end.)

I love the scene where the Preditor crashes into that old lady's bathroom and perfoms self-surgery, while the woman outside listens to the bizarre screaming noises within.

Nate 07-06-2004 01:50 PM

re multiple endings, the movie 28 Days Later had multiple endings. I think in some countries the first few weeks it was out there was one ending and then after that there was another with a third only on the DVD. Or it may have been completely random which ending you would see when you go. I'm not sure.

I personally would go and see the movie once and then rent the DVD to see the other endings.

+ Kirsten Dunst isn't really a bad actress, just really really boring.

oddguy 07-06-2004 09:44 PM

Okay...a summer movie I wish not to see is...CatWoman.

Really, hollywood takes a good thing and runs with it until it's ruined. Comicbook movies are good, but I'm getting tired of them.

What do the other kids think, eh?

Oh, Man. I feel sorry for Halle Berry, she's very sexy(If that can be considered an excuse for sympathy, or perhaps I'm just a typical horny male) but this movie is going to bomb, I just know it.

oddguy 07-06-2004 11:16 PM

I see the CatWoman movie as an excuse to put Halle Berry in black leather. Not that it's a bad thing. :p

Really though, there's just something that irks me to not see the darn thing. I don't know why...I'm just un-interested.

-oddguy

Majic 07-07-2004 06:40 AM

She, and by "she" I obviously mean the movie, looks ho- good.

Anyways, the predators darn well better when in the version released at the theater I always attend. Because those guys are wicked. And also, didn't the one in Predator 2 just run around killing drug lords, much like the one in the original Predator?

And Sligslinger, also remember she has nipples of steel;)

SeaRex 07-07-2004 07:52 AM

Catwoman - "Jesus Christ! I didn't know they could actually make Halle Berry that unattractive!"

Jacob 07-07-2004 10:45 AM

The costume is what gets me, they should have stuck with the original actress and the original costume, because that black leather-white stitching kicked bouncing baby boys!

But yeh, i agree that this movie is going to be rubbish, the fact they're saying "Oh, it's a different Catwomen, yeh, it's a better story as well...yeh...better.". No it's not. It's a crap story, an Egyption Cat God-thing has brought the silly bitch back to life...no...not good...badness. Silly Hollywood people.

Esus 07-07-2004 11:20 AM

I think it will do about as well as Daredevil. Anyone remember that? ;)

Majic 07-07-2004 11:27 AM

That movie was superb. A story that draws you in, and the fight scenes were some of the best I've ever seen. Best comic book movie. Ever.

Jacob 07-07-2004 01:27 PM

'Daredevil' rocked my socks. The fact he was a darker heroe was good as well. Shame they used Ben Affleck though, he annoys me.

Nate 07-07-2004 02:05 PM

What gets to me is the complete lack of subtlety in the costume. I know I shouldn't have expected more of Hollywood but I subscribe to the 'less is more' school of erotica. It's always best with a bit of mystery.

+ the story - are they trying to continue the story from after Batman? Or starting from scratch and adding an Egyptian-god-thing? Either way it sounds crap

Shell Man 07-07-2004 02:20 PM

I hate to say it but Catwoman is nothing without Batman. There are plenty of sexy female superheroins without her. :p
