Well you do have a point there Majic. Like I said its a concept now so I dunno whats going to happen. Most likely it won't happen but if there was a way to make it not as expensive then maybe. And as a point if this were to happen, I am not garanteeing that every single person will be there. I mean if its a hassle then I wouldn't go eather. But the idea of a fan convention is really cool and maybe there will be one some day.

So guys its not like this is official because I don't even know so don't get all excited about this because its only an idea.

Newspaper stalls, Esus? There's one at the bottom of St Stephen's, one by Debenham's and very occassionally one on Gentleman's Walk. Alas the infestation continues.

Good job Hobo found this for me. I'd be slightly interested in meeting up if anyone's headed my way, if I weren't super inundated with work right now. Pleasant planning.

Havoc 03-27-2004 01:27 PM

Cool, the idea is getting solid... well as solid as a unsure plan can be. But hey! I know I'm in if its ever gonna happan! And with some luck it will be in two years cuz im 18 then and I won't have bothering parents bugging me.
Keep up the planning guys cuz I realy like the idea!

Oh, BTW maybe its a nice idea to pin this?

Majic 03-27-2004 01:40 PM

I should totally be the one to go around and meet people. After all, I'm the most kick ass, well-liked guy here, no? No?!?!

Bah. Tis' there at least isn't anybody else here form the Dallas area. But hey, I can still call anybody here who's in the US:p

Hmmm, I see the flaws in our plans now... Curse you Majic for ruining my fun! *sigh* We'll keep working on the plans for this to work...

Damnit! Why didn't I post in here before?!

Anyway, I would love to help organize a tour or convention, but I would have to wear a hood until I know all of you better, none of you are pure enough to look upon my true face.

oddguy 03-27-2004 06:38 PM

Well, if OW gets popular enough after the release of Stranger, then maybe our event could get some sponsors. That'd cut down some of the costs. Still, there is the travel expenses. Like PA said, this may be a few years down the road.

Don't worry though...there will be an OWF convention someday! I'll make it happen!

Cloverfield 03-28-2004 03:09 AM

Well, an Oddtour like the previous one would never happen again ... because well Pilot lost all interest in Oddworld and doesn't want to know me anymore. Haha.

Anyways ... I am going to annouce this in General Discussion soon ... but guess who is on their way to the US again? Yep, me! E3, here I come!!! Yay!!!

Although that is probably too short of a notice for something that would happen any time in the future, as it's just over a month away now. Although one thing that I find when these things are arranged, is that people are all interested, but when the time comes, people pull out ... whether it be because of parents, or just the general "you can't trust someone on the internet" kind of thing.

Abe Babe...

paramiteabe 03-29-2004 02:42 AM

Well how do you trust people on the Internet? You can't its just impossible. To get around that where that issue no longer applys is what I am trying to explane.

Well the idea is on the table. And I believe our first OWF convention will take place eather (now this an estimated guess) but it would take place in 2006 maybe. I am tentively looking at that year as a possable time frame when it could happen.

But it is official there will be a Convention down the road Oddguy knows it and I know it. Oh yes there will be a Convention! Some how some way we are going to do this. And if it is successful then it could be an annual thing but we will just have to wait and see.

The question here is how do we make enough money and how do we pull it off where its convient in a way that makes it not a huge problem for everybody around the world? Getting a sponsor from Lorne Lanning is indeed a great way around that. One of us can write a letter signed by all of us to Lorne Lanning telling him about what we want to do and asking him kindly if he would like to sponsor our little Oddworld shin gig! And Lorne loves us because not only we give him bread on his table every night but we are his fans and as his fans we support him. I don't think he would turn down such a request then again ya never know. But why does that have to stop us? Why can't we give it a try? And so what if it doesn't work it doesn't work. But to not even attempt it because we think it won't work is crazy. Granted the potential of it not working is there but everything has a chance of not working.

The E3 takes place in one location but people from all over the world go to it. Why because it popular and its video games not to mention billions of dollars goes into running it. I am not saying get a billion dollars I am saying make something small but related only small instead of big.

How do you pull off a fan base event where it won't be any problem for anybody? The only logical solution I think of would be to make it public where everyone is invited not just us the fans on this forum. Make it public and general and people would come and its like they come and they go and well it would be a choice thing as oppose to something arranged and all of a sudden that person can't do it for what ever reason. But then again there is the issue of the real world, will people be intrested?

A lot of questions but I think with our creativity we can actually pull something like this off and thats my own opinion. Ya know all I got to say is if you want something you got go for it because its not going to come to you. Your not going to get rich over night, your not going to become famous you got to want it and that is the only way to pull it off.

GrigtheSlig 03-29-2004 06:55 AM

PA has restored my hope! This might work!

Maybe we could get some sponsering from Tech TV! They could send the hosts of X PLAY to our convention, and then we could get recognition and TV time! And maybe we could get a news station like CNN or FOX to come and report on it too! We could get alot of sponsering from places if we just though about it... Maybe even Wal*Mart...

I think I'm probably streching the whole sponsering thing, but it might work.

Anyway, if we made it public, that means anyone could just walk in and steal stuff! Or a rapist man looking for his next victim could just walk in and grab someone! Scary, and people wouldn't even notice that they were missing until it was too late, and that'd be bad publicity!

Oh well, just something to think about...

GrigtheSlig :D

Hobo 03-29-2004 07:02 AM

Or maybe you're taking a pipe dream a bit too far Grig. You really are getting on my nerves at the moment *Gets out rusty knife*

Havoc 03-29-2004 07:51 AM

I think such an event should not be made public... afterall, its an Oddworld convention only for oddworld members and loyal fans. You could set up a sign in form or something if you want to make it public, but making it public just like that is (like grig said) a little dangerues.

paramiteabe 03-29-2004 09:25 AM

Public in the sense of not arrangeing an Internet meeting like in a Mall. Thats not really good.

Because it is very suspicious. You need to sort of invite loyal Oddworld fans to this event in a formal fashion as opposed to something informal where someone is like "Hey lets meet at this place on this date!" that is not the right way to do this. Thats why we should have invitations to this event. If its written down on paper presented in a formal way then its public in that way. Peoples's parents might actually let their kid to participate because it is written down and there are phone numbers. They won't get a sense of unknown suspicions. Thats what I mean when I say public.

Of course it will just be for Oddworld fans.

oddguy 03-29-2004 12:10 PM

Talking about this, when there is no way of doing it as of now, is a little bit far fetched. Yes, I'm serious about having an OWF convention...someday, but planning and getting excited about this whilst no major moolah linning our pockets is pointless. This may be 2...or even 4 years down the road. Let's talk serious when the way of this happening is in sight and not just a dream.

paramiteabe 03-29-2004 12:23 PM

Agreed I just was stateing on how it can be done. But yeah remember right now its only a dream so don't get excited.

Alcar 03-30-2004 02:39 AM

I'd dreamed of an Oddworld Forums convention when I first joined the forums. The prospect appealed greatly to me, but as time went on, things just seemed to prove it would never happen.

Shame, as I'd like to slap a few people in real life ;)

Alcar...

Al the Vykker 03-30-2004 07:38 AM

Yeah 2006 would probably be a good year. By that time I'll be 18 and graduating high school. I like the convention idea, hey all of us could gather at a comic con or something just to meet I guess.

Hobo 03-30-2004 07:53 AM

But who of us would still bother to come here in two years eh?

Wil 03-30-2004 08:14 AM

I've been here over two years, hobo, and I've no intention of leaving just yet.

Havoc 03-30-2004 12:20 PM

if this board stays active why bother leaving?

Al the Vykker 03-30-2004 05:43 PM

Ditto, I've been here for two years and I plan to still visit and be active on the forums. :)

Havoc 03-31-2004 01:39 AM

im planning to stay for two years :)

paramiteabe 03-31-2004 03:08 AM

As long as theres Oddworld I don't see why these boards won't exist. Ive been here since November 2001 so its been 2 and half years going onto three now.

I guess since it seems that most of you are waiting to be 18 I think thats a great time period to do this. I mean you guys are like what 15, 16, 17 somewhere in that area?

a flock of seagulls 03-31-2004 01:00 PM

well actually, like it says in my bio, im twelve. but anyways alcar who are those people you are wanting to slap? im very curios. anyway i cant wait to get this oddworld tour/convention to start (if it ever will).

nads 03-31-2004 04:27 PM

Come to Massachusetts! Were Alcar is Alcah, chowder is chowdah, Nomar is Nomah and we pahk ah cahs in Hahvahd Yahd.

I'm lucky I can speak without a faggot-ass accent like the one mentioned ^.

Havoc 04-03-2004 01:38 PM

and there was actualy a reason you posted that???
