Infiltrator: Shadow Wars and Phantasy Star Online v2 will both support mutiplayer (for all of you wayward Dreamcast Fans :) ). Infiltrator has a really cool concept: It will have four cooperations battling it out with various spies (the players) in a slightly futuristic setting. The catch is the cooperations choose you, not the other way around. Warzone Online will also support online, and I think/hope the next Worms game will have online. Also many games (as soon as the onlines up) will have downloadable units, maps, characters, levels, whatever that you can store on your hard drive. And with an Ethernet connection, downloads will be quick as lightning. Ahh, the 'BOX.

La la la only 31 days, la la la! Wow I sound pathetic :) :) :) :)

Joe the Intern 10-15-2001 09:32 PM

ahh yes. the 'BOX is the god of consoles. it is heaven. thank god we all got out of our sony brainwashing long ago. :D :D

FuzzyFuzzle 10-15-2001 10:02 PM

Maybe we should start another thread. "PS2 players annonymous" When people say the 'BOX is just Microsofts attempt to make a console clone...XBOX has sooo many innovations. It's staggaring.

Steel Shark 10-16-2001 07:46 AM

I have been playing and checking out concepts of two XBOX exclusive games, Heavens beast and 24 Automatons, I want to check them out more and then talk to you of them. Quick review is "WOW". Back later on these future epics. :D

Steel Shark 10-17-2001 06:43 AM

I'll get into the game tests later, when I have looked into them further.

Some news in case you have missed it :

Microsoft releases the first details on its third-person squad-based shooter for the Xbox.

Although the game has appeared on a variety of official Microsoft release lists for some time, little information was known to date about the first-party Xbox game Brute Force. That has changed as Microsoft has announced that the game is a futuristic third-person shooter where players assume control over a squad of mercenaries. At any one time the player will be controlling one of the squad members, while the three remaining members are AI controlled. With the tap of a button players can switch between the individual squad members, which include an assault trooper named Tex, a cyborg-enhanced sniper known as Flint, a stealthy scout called Hawk, and a powerful alien named Brutus. Additionally, at any point, players can also issue a variety of commands to the AI-controlled squad members.
The game's levels are based in four unique worlds. They are the volcanic moon of Shadoon, which is filled with magma; the desert world of Caspian, where several colonies and outposts are located; the Feral homeworld of Ferix, which has giant marshes and swamps; and the outpost of Shrike, a barren landscape hiding a myriad of tunnels and possessing an atmosphere that is slightly harmful to humans. A wide variety of weapons will also be available in the game. Weapons such as miniguns, sonic cannons, flamethrowers, and psychic blasts and accessories like stealth suits and infrared goggles are available in Brute Force.

Featuring a four-player multiplayer mode, Brute Force will be released for the Xbox in spring 2002.

Another bit of news:

X01 Europe: Peter Molyneux shows BC for the Xbox

Peter Molyneux announces a second exclusive Xbox game from a Lionhead satellite at the X01 Europe event in France.

Lionhead Studios' Peter Molyneux today announced an exclusive Xbox game called BC. The game is being developed by Lionhead's satellite studio Intrepid Games, which is based in the UK. BC was shrouded in mystery for a long time, but it is now known that the game is set in a prehistoric world and can be described as an innovative action game. BC takes some liberties with prehistoric history, and its gameplay boils down to humanity's struggle for survival in a hostile environment populated by deadly dinosaurs and primates. According to Intrepid Games, BC unfolds in a dynamic simulated environment that features a high level of interactivity. The player must unite isolated factions of humankind and create and sustain a new tribal culture. The game emphasizes the use of the natural world, as players must develop the innate skills of each member of the tribe to defeat a simian race. Very exciting game, trust me put it on your lists for next Fall, and XBOX exclusive, sweet.

Malice is slightly renamed and gets a new release date

Argonaut's action-adventure game starring a female heroine wielding a mechanical hammer will arrive late next year.

Vivendi Universal has officially confirmed its agreement with European developer Argonaut Games to publish Malice for multiple console platforms. According to Vivendi Universal, the game, which is now officially titled Malice: Kat's Tale, will be released for the Microsoft Xbox and an unannounced console. It is highly likely that the unnamed console is the PlayStation 2, as Argonaut, in a financial statement released in August, listed Sony's console as a potential home for the game. But XBOX or PS2, you do the math, you get the point.

Sierra, the Vivendi Universal label responsible for the game's publishing duties, plans to release both console versions of Malice: Kat's Tale next fall.

Sierra and Argonaut announce that the upcoming SWAT: Global Strike Team will be released for the Xbox and an unnamed console.

Vivendi Universal has confirmed that SWAT: Global Strike Team, the game formerly known as Kleaners, will indeed be released on the Microsoft Xbox. The company will also bring the game to an unannounced console. Both versions will be released under the company's Sierra label. SWAT: GST is a first-person tactical combat title that, according to Sierra, combines the strategic elements of SWAT 3 with the fast-paced shooting action of arcade games such as Sega's Virtua Cop. In the game, players become a member of the Global Strike Team, which is established in the year 2020 to help countries and organizations around the globe resolve a variety of situations involving the protection and rescue of innocent lives.
"SWAT: GST takes advantage of groundbreaking work for the Xbox already underway by Argonaut," said Adam Fossa, brand manager at Sierra. "Their new SWAT engine has been designed from the ground up to give the game its own distinct look and feel. Some of the stylistic variations developed for the game include hard-edged shadows, allowing for an almost limitless number of lights and shadows in any given scene, and photo-realistic film filter, which gives SWAT its distinctive true-to-life look."

Both console versions of SWAT will be released in fall 2002. Among Argonaut's other projects is the action game Orchid, which was shown as part of the original Xbox demo reel, and two unannounced games that will be released exclusively for Microsoft's console.

Sweet games are coming that are even better than this first batch, it really is a good time to be into games.

if by that you mean RPGs then yes...Project Ego
if you mean FF games then i don't think there are any planned (they're on the PS2)

any news on Malice? i haven't heard much about that for ages...

Steel Shark 10-18-2001 06:54 PM

I have news of it earlier in tis Thread. Look for it, lot's of details.A quick synopsis of Malice: Great original look and feel, with tons of gameplay originality. Coming only in Fall 2002 now.

As for RPG's, yes PS2 is looking great for them, but more of the Japanese feel and style, if they are your thing go for them on PS2. Kingdom Hearts from Square and Disney will be an Epic on PS2. Only coming next Summer.

XBOX does have some RPG news as well however. Ego yes, as mentioned above, and Xavier FOX, but both games are more of ACT/RPG/SIMS, my type of RPG. There is a game being re-named as I type, it was called Fate, more of a traditional RPG. Only coming in Summer/Fall of 2002. Another of a FF style for the XBOX is called Metal Dungeon. A turn base type RPG. Looks promising, I have seen it up and running at E3. My Brother had just seen it at TGS in Japan, he was pretty impressed. As RPG's go it is of true next-gen quality, keep it in mind. It is more of FF style role playing style.

There is another that is still in the shadows, I cannot comment on it in detail, however I have seen it running and looked into some in-depth concepts of it. It is a cross of turn-based and RPG/Act, you have your choice. It is a true heavywight game that is made by a top notch dev team, I can not get into more about it, it's top secret you know.Microsoft will be pushing it as a big game for there Fall 2002 games list.It will beat out in both gameplay and graphics any RPG to date, even FF, Sorry Abe babe but true,it is really astounding. But then again maybe the next FF's will be better again as well. ;)

So RPG is coming to XBOX, don't you worry about that. One at launch is Nightcaster. but it is more of a ACT/RPG, take a look at it, you may like it. ;)

Here are some new Shrek shots:

http://www.activexbox.com/xbox/scree...ek/index.shtml

I just love that CG OGRE, he is just beautiful to me. 90 hours of platforming bliss. Shrek is comprised of 16.500 polys, High texture detail and some impressive A.I. I will be all over Shrek in just 4 more weeks. All over the game I mean, I love Shrek as a movie and game character, I'll save my other loving for the beautiful ladies of the world, thank you very much. ;)

I have been running with a few games on my debugger, oh it's something wonderful, Heavens beast and 24 Automatons are just so advanced. They are still about 9 months off but already better than anything out there...PERIOD>>>> A.I. graphics, gameplay, physics, just soooo very advanced. It's a pity I cannot get the full versions now. It is great getting the games for early looks, but still almost a curse, you play a bit and then wait somemore, almost torture. But it's a good problem to have. ;)

FuzzyFuzzle 10-18-2001 07:14 PM

Hey Steel, I know this probably comes up a lot, but how do you like the XBOX controller? Are there anythings you don't like about it? Is it one of those "you get used to it after a couple 14 hour gaming block" type things? Are there any third-party controllers/peripherals we should have our eye on? I don't know if I'll get any third-party controllers, mainly because for all those four player romps you don't want one person to have a stainless steel uber-controller with macros. But I can always get more than 4 :)

Steel Shark 10-19-2001 01:15 AM

Brute force movie and about 20 more or so
That's right, do you want them? I can't hear you, I still can't hear you,

Ok that's better, I hear you now, here they are:
Movies galore, check them out.Including Brute force and Munch. I am not sure if the Munch one has been seen or not by you but you can check.

Brute force is awesome, it is the first of the real next-gen games beyond this launch and Holiday season.

Other top movies there as well. Have fun. And you are welcome.

Fuzzy the controller is top notch. I am 6-4 and it is really perfect. One of my artists is 5-8 another about 5-10, and one small one we call flea is 5-4 or so, and all have no complaints. The functionality is spot on. I love it personally. Just get originals, they are for the most part more reliable and trustworthy. But you are always free to look for outside help.If or when you find something speacial let us know. Cool, back to the Debugger and 24 Automatons.

Steel Shark 10-21-2001 06:36 PM

Ron: Yes

Fuzzy: It is good news. EB world will be backing them.

Here is some more news:

The marketing wheels at Microsoft are grinding into motion as the software giant gears up to launch its Xbox video game console, which it envisions not only as a gaming machine but an entertainment hub for the home.

With less than a month to go before the Nov. 15 debut of Microsoft’s big foray into the $20 billion-a-year global video game market, the company is marshaling everything from Mexican food to 18-wheel trucks to preach the Xbox gospel, executives said Friday.

"On the marketing side it’s all about building buzz," said Robbie Bach, Microsoft’s "Chief Xbox Officer".

The first advertisements are just now starting to appear in gaming magazines, marking the beach-head of a half-billion-dollar campaign to sell the Xbox over the next year and a half. Soon, ads on youth-oriented television stations like MTV and WB will start beaming the message. And Microsoft hopes Taco Bell customers will be shouting "Yo quiero Xbox!" (I want Xbox!) as the fast-food Mexican chain, a unit of Tricon Global Restaurants Inc., starts splashing the product’s distinctive radioactive-green logo across nearly 7,000 stores. Other co-marketing efforts will include Vans sneakers and SoBe drinks.

Microsoft will follow those carpet-bombing tactics with the advertising equivalent of surgical strikes: two custom-built 18-wheelers will travel to more than 40 cities, deploying a giant inflatable pavilion equipped with 50 Xbox machines that visitors can play.

So you can get some sneak peaks if interested.

Xavier FOx interview:

Exclusive Vision Games: Xavier Fox Interview 10/19/2001, by Jason
Stephen White, one of the big cheeses over at Vision Games agrees to talk with the Old Jedi in an exclusive interview with XBOX365. Steve yaks about Xavier Fox, the Xbox exclusive title, how the game is coming along, how excited Vision Games are about working on Xbox and why Xavier Fox could only appear on Xbox. Keep your eyes peeled for an Xavier Fox prize give-away - just for XBOX365 readers, click to read the interview and we'll have more details on that give-away...

Tell us a little about Vision Games.

Vision Games is a young development company whose focus is on creating the best games possible. We believe that games are at a turning point in their evolution and that we have the opportunity to create titles that will influence and improve the future of video gaming forever.

What is your position at Vision Games?

My official title right now is Director, which means I'm in charge of things. Dean and I founded Vision Games in August of 2000 and we're working as partners through the whole creation. It's really been a great relationship and we've found that we make a great team.

Tell us about your upcoming game Xavier Fox.

Xavier Fox is the beginning of the future of gaming. Dean and I set out to take advantage of the new hardware capabilities that are being presented by the Xbox. We believe that games are on their way towards more interactivity and more fulfilling experiences. Xavier Fox is the first step in that direction. The world is a living, breathing world that grows and adapts over time. Players can directly influence the growth of the world they live in, and soon every different copy of Xavier Fox will have an unique world shaped by the unique events of that player.

Was developing a game for the Xbox a good experience?

So far it's been wonderful. Dean and I, and the entire team have gotten an incredible amount of support from the entire industry, including the gaming media, middleware companies, and Microsoft itself. Everyone's been very supportive and helpful.

In addition, working with the Xbox allows us to do pretty much whatever we want with the game. The possibilities of this machine are incredible. If Dean and I ever find something that we'd like to do that isn't possible we just talk it out a little bit and find a way for it to work that usually ends up better than the original idea. It's very liberating creatively, and very exciting.

Did the Xbox hardware allow you to make the game you envisioned and would you have been able to make Xavier Fox on other consoles?

Well, we're not done yet, so it's a bit too soon to talk about how close the final product is to our original vision, but so far we've gotten everything to work that we've tried.

As to the second part of your question, no. There's no way to do Xavier Fox on a different console. Without the hardware in the Xbox the world just wouldn't be possible.

The hard drive eliminates load times that would break up the entire experience, the broadband connectivity allows for changes in the world to be made after release and allows for interactivity on a level that isn't possible on other machines, the amount of textures and polygons that the Xbox can push allows for much more detailed and adaptive worlds, the audio capabilities allow us to use sounds in ways that have never been possible for gaming. Early on we considered putting Xavier on another console.

Dean and I spent hours trying to get the control setup to work on another machine, and it just doesn't work. You either end up losing a lot of the features that allow hard-core gamers to really get into the game, or you end up losing some of the features that allow it to be easy to learn. Xavier Fox was designed with the Xbox in mind, and a port just wouldn't be the same experience.

What separates Xavier Fox from console games of it's nature?

Well, I think Xavier Fox is the first of it's kind in a lot of ways. We cross a lot of boundaries and don't really fit into one genre. I think what we did was come up with an idea for a game, and then just went with it. This is a new generation of hardware that will change the very nature of gaming, and Xavier Fox is a natural outreach of that.

From start to finish how many hours of game play can Xbox owners expect to get out of Xavier Fox?

As many as they want. Bare minimum, you'll probably have 40 hours of straight-through rush to the end play. If you go on side-adventures, explore the world, really get into the plot and story of the world, the game could take years to complete. And I think that the most exciting part is that with broadband connectivity and a hard drive, when you "finish" the main quest, it could turn out to be just the beginning.

Tell us about what quality of graphics gamers can expect in Xavier Fox. Is it true that weather even plays a part in the game?

We are going to for the highest graphical quality. Like I said earlier, we' re taking advantage of all of the Xbox's hardware, and Nvidia's graphics chip is certainly not being overlooked. We're creating morph targets for many of the characters so they can truly sound out words and have real lip-synching in realtime. We're also utilizing pixel-shaders to give Xavier realistic fur. We're really excited about the graphical capabilities of this machine.

How many characters are their in Xavier Fox?

Hundreds. The two main characters are Xavier and Max, and there are other characters that you'll probably spend a lot of time with, but the game world has large population that learns and grows. How, why and how much you interact with other characters is up to you.

Will the game be available on the Xbox's launch day?

No, we're actually targeting for a release with Xbox's 1 year birthday.

Does Vision Games have any other Xbox games in Development?

Yep. ;-)

In closing, what can Xbox gamers expect from Xavier Fox?

You can expect the beginning of a revolution in gaming. Xavier Fox will deliver an experience unlike any other. With the possibility of a true emotional outlet in the game, a truly interactive world that adapts and grows with you and interactivity with people and gamers from across the globe, Xavier Fox will help to propel gaming into the next level.

Thanks for your time and we at Xbox365 are planning to spend many hours with Xavier Fox upon release!

Is there any news on the Matrix game or Half-Life 2 for xbox?

Steel Shark 10-23-2001 12:19 AM

Half life 2 will be coming soon, last I heard after the new year sometime in Febuary, we shall see.

Matrix is shrouded in secrecy.I got a chance to see concepts, not actual gameplay at E3. My Brother has seen it running just this past month at TGS.

Matrix is a 3rd person act/adv game with all the potential in the world. From the dev team that brought us the original MDK, and Messiah, along with Sacrifice, and many titles before those such as Alladin, jungle book, Spot the Dot, just to name a few more.

Dave Perry known as the Tall man of gaming even taller than me,heads the company. He has vowed to keep the game under wraps, in the past he came out with news faster than anyone else. It hurt him with games such as Messiah, due to Messiah being way ahead of the crowd in a technolgy standpoint in it's erly days. But too much time past and Messiah was caught taking too much time to develope. Eventualy it turned out more ambitious than was possible, and the game suffered from it. Not being able to pull off the early ideas and concepts.

As for Matrix, if done following the blueprints or concepts and gameplay promised, it will be astounding. News of Matrix will begin circulating in Febuary. They expect a release date in May/June. The company is known to have major delays, but promise that this time things will come together in time.

It is one to watch, that is for sure. When I get any news, i'll pass it on.

Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams
A tiny handful of movies plus plenty of new information have been added to this preview.
http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16240.html

Here is the info:

In an interview with our buddies over at IGN PS2, the producer of Silent Hill 2, Akihito Imamura says "Although it is '2,' this is not a continued story of '1.' This is a story of a completely different man." Not that we don't care about poor Harry Mason and the folks from the original Silent Hill on the PlayStation, but a new story with a new main character is the perfect for the franchise to continue on the Xbox. New is always a good thing even if it's a little scary, or in the case of Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, downright chilling.
Features

Return to Silent Hill and explore parts of the town that were closed off in the original.
Incredible graphics and true-to-life CG visuals leave you on the edge of your seat.
Real-time weather effects, morphing and shadows will confuse your senses.
Atmospheric lighting and ambient surround sound makes every moment suspenseful.
Dynamic camera effects and beautifully rendered environments deliver a cinematic horror experience.
Xbox-exclusive sub scenario "Born From a Wish" offers 4-6 hours of gameplay in addition to main storyline.
Cinematic Noise Filter can be turned off to remove the "grainy effect."
First off, to appreciate what will be the Xbox version of Silent Hill 2, we'll have to hype up the atmosphere effects that we've seen in the PS2 game. In a word they're awesome. Volumetric fog could very well be the lens flare of the 21st century, the videogame effect that every console simply has to have to be considered "next generation." It swirls and creeps and hangs in the air with such realism that you'll have a serious new appreciation for fog. Swirling little clouds of humidity won't make the game any fun if it's lacking in other departments, but there is still reason to be excited about this. With Xbox's graphic capabilities it's easy to say that it will be able to do whatever the PS2 can do, only better. But why not make every other part of the game that much crisper, add some more depth to the gameplay and just take the fog effects as they are?

But enough about the fog, this game is supposed to be scary and it'll take more than a low altitude cloud to do that. The new story revolves around John Sunderland and his reasons for visiting the town of Silent Hill. It seems poor John hasn't been the same since his wife, Mary, passed a few years ago. He's shaken out of his permanent haze of depression when he receives a letter from his wife telling him that she's waiting for him at their "special place" &&.in Silent Hill. If that isn't a set up then I don't know what is, but our hero hits the town to get to the bottom of that letter and whatever else is waiting for him.

To this point, we've been hard-pressed to forego mentioning that game that rhymes with an R, ends with an L and rhymes with president weevil. But now we're at the part where we have to mention zombies so we can't help it. There are undead creatures walking around the town that want to hurt you, some conventional weapons to help you defend yourself and puzzles that must be solved if you want to solve the mystery of this game, but any other resemblance to Resident Evil is purely coincidental.

With Capcom updating their RE concept with games like Devil May Cry, it seems Konami is very comfortable enhancing and improving on that concept by carrying Silent Hill 2 to the Xbox and PS2 with all of the graphical and gameplay upgrades possible on those new systems. But if you notice, there is the phrase "Restless Dreams" dangling at the end of the words Silent Hill 2 at the top of this preview. That's a marketing tool that basically says, "yeah this is Silent Hill 2, but this one is only for Xbox, so there is going to be some stuff in this game that you won't see on any other system." All of that meaning jammed into those two little words. The option to play "Born from a Wish" should make Silent Hill fans happy with their Xboxes because nobody else will get play a bonus sub scenario as Maria, the sexy gal James meets in the main story. That's an extra 4-6 hours of gameplay with better graphics all for the miniscule price of $49.99.

In the meantime enjoy the Xbox screens, the movie clip from 4gamer.net and IGN PS2's Week of Silent Hill feature to get your heart racing.

Outlook: Judging from the title, Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, should be a fine follow up to a hit PSX title that makes brilliant use of the Xbox hardware. Having the cheese scared out of you in 5.1 digital surround sound should be a whole new experience. And while a game like this tends to move too slow to make good use of the 60 frames per second of evil, I say that just leaves the door open for a few surprises. This time around we know we'll be scared but the question is how over the top will Konami go to creep us out?

Steel Shark 10-23-2001 06:52 AM

Stung screenshots. Kind of reminds me of the old Saturn game Clockwork Knight. At E3 it relly reminded me of CWK.These new shots....... well somewhat.

Check out this unique new game, which stars bugs armed to the teeth.

Prey Digital Studios, a newly formed European development studio, has announced Stung, its first game. According to the developer, the game is similar to games like Half-Life, but with an intriguing setting. As the game's story goes, the military, during the time of the Cold War, experimented with using insects in battle. Essentially, insects had the ability to carry viruses, infiltrate enemy facilities undetected, survive nuclear attacks, and even carry tiny weapons of war. However, the insect project has since been scrapped, and a war continues to wage in the bowels of the insect laboratory. In this tongue-in-cheek action game, players assume the role one of these heavily armed insects, and the objective is to survive a variety of enemies, including bugs and other larger animals. Aside from the ornery opposition, players will be faced with a wide range of obstacles, including steam from boiling kettles, spider webs, sticky flypaper traps, and deadly bug spray.
In addition to the first-person single-player game, Stung will feature a variety of multiplayer modes, such as deathmatch and capture-the-flag. Prey Digital is currently seeking a publisher for the project and plans to release Stung for the Microsoft Xbox and PC platforms.
