EVP_Glukkon 03-31-2016 12:15 AM

Nope. I don't care how much spin LL puts in his stories, he will never take Oddworld to such extremes making his characters have such crazy sexuality.

To quote a wise white man acting like a black man:

Kirk Lazarus: Everybody knows you never go full retard.

Tugg Speedman: What do you mean?

Kirk Lazarus: Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed...

Nepsotic 03-31-2016 12:19 AM

What does that have to do with literally anything in this thread apart from providing a good self-example.

EVP_Glukkon 03-31-2016 12:32 AM

What's the moral of the story?
Don't alienate your audience.

Holy Sock 03-31-2016 02:03 AM

I don't think the audience that would be turned off and alienated by that would be an audience Lorne cares to have int he first place.

Varrok 03-31-2016 02:08 AM

Think of the audience that would be turned ON by oddworld sex

Vlam 03-31-2016 02:24 AM

EVP_Glukkon means: Lanning dropped this idea.

Nepsotic 03-31-2016 04:20 AM

Based on what? All the creatures on Oddworld are insanely in-depth.

Slog Bait 03-31-2016 04:15 PM

I'm trying to understand how establishing how a species reproduces in an alien planet that's main appeal is it's a life-like alien planet would alienate the audience that's likely very interested in the intricacies of the planet and its inhabitants

Alf Shall Rise 03-31-2016 04:28 PM

I cannot reproduce like an alien, therefore I cannot relate, therefore, garbage series. Therefore, dropped. 0/10.

It's not reproduction, it's how these species 'get off' so to speak.

"With regard to controversy, I think that where we are going with sexual relations will be far more controversial than conventional sex could ever get."

Doesn't sound like he was talking about making babies, and we are already aware of the Queens and the breeding going on so he is talking about non-reproductive sex.

THAT aspect is firmly in "Don't ask, Don't tell' territory for me.

Slog Bait 03-31-2016 10:43 PM

Well outside of the super species I don't really see what could be so controversial about "sexual relations" in oddworld unless it's something like the parasitic sperm bugs I linked earlier which would def make loads of people uncomfortable if they don't already accept it as a means of reproduction

Also as far as I'm concerned reproduction is just a part of sexual urge. We might not have sex just to reproduce, but it's still a biproduct of sex, so in this context, they are one and the same since we don't actually know the intricacies of the super species reproductive cycles (and I doubt it's ever going to get more in detail than this happens, that happens, then babies)

Also also are you seriously that hot and bothered over the concept of fictional creatures being intimate with each other

Varrok 03-31-2016 10:50 PM

Reproduction is not a byproduct of sex. Pleasure is a byproduct of sex.

Slog Bait 03-31-2016 10:59 PM

You totally know what I mean you turd

Varrok 03-31-2016 11:25 PM

I just wanted to make sure you get your facts straight :P

I don't feel any irritation or annoyance over it, just disconnected. As it stands Abe is male to me, females appear to be Queens, but LL's comments make me wonder how 'far out' he pictures things to be.

Perhaps it is more social commentary on how our society is, people having sex online, cam sites, usb toys etc. Maybe Glukkons plug in to some Augmented Simulator, if Muds are asexual maybe some are forced into a sex industry of sorts?

Why the (#&^$& am I talking about this *#^$@. That's enough from me.

Slog Bait 03-31-2016 11:52 PM

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I don't really see sexless beings of a superspecies having any need for sexual gratification

And I'm like 99.9% sure that trafficking mudokons would be frowned upon or considered squick in-universe because I'm FAIRLY CERTAIN, since they're literally bred for slave labour and don't even have basic rights, they're not even viewed as... well, okay, it's like how throughout history humans will consider other humans not actually humans because of physical differences or their assumption of the other's culture (savages, primitive, etc) so it'd probably be super underground and in the same vein as bestiality in most human cultures if that were a thing at all

Commentary on virtual sex platforms would be interesting, ngl. I don't think he'd make it so hamfisted, though. I'm sure it'd end up being something more like... vykkers streaming their latest surgical enhancements or something lmfao

I'd just like you to know I was giggling the entire time I was writing this up because of everything about your post from content to execution good golly gee whiz you're a funny guy sometimes

Varrok 03-31-2016 11:54 PM

Slog Bait confirmed racist

Slog Bait 04-01-2016 12:01 AM

Varrok I thought we agreed to let me come out when I was more comfortable with it

I'm honestly feeling so betrayed right now

LOL!

Anyway, I also don't see the need for Oddworld containing any sexual gradification either for its various species. Just LL's comments got me wondering.

kjjcarpenter 04-01-2016 01:04 AM

My cockatiel often masturbates for the hell of it. A cockatiel is a bird. Mudokons are descended from birds. Ergo, I expect Mudokons to masturbate.

Slog Bait 04-01-2016 01:09 AM

A cockatiel isn't sexless, tho

Nor is it a part of a superspecies

Nor are any birds as we know them

Vlam 04-01-2016 03:15 AM

OWI has just said that Slave Circus will be about sex in Oddworld!

Manco 04-01-2016 06:45 AM

I think you’re all reading too much into the original comment. To me it’s Lorne hinting at how most of the Oddworld species we’ve seen have nonstandard reproduction based around queens, and the “controversial” part being either that a video game would feature characters so departed from traditional human concepts of romance and sex, or that a video game would have story elements of creatures being enslaved and then forcibly bred to produce more slaves.

Considering the comment was made way back around the time of Abe’s Exoddus, I doubt Lorne would be thinking too much about modern sex culture.

Pretty sure they have dicks but no balls.

Mudokons are descended from birds.

yeah i've heard that mudokons are descended from birds so i assumed they didn't have dicks/balls and had something more resembling cloacas or something. i don't know much about birds though so i don't know if you can have a dick as well as a cloaca or whatever.

Calm down Slogbait.

Xorlidyr 04-01-2016 11:45 AM

Please do not. Speak more on this topic of Mudokon cloacae.

Nepsotic 04-01-2016 11:49 AM

So anyway what do you guys picture a Mudokon cloaca looks like?
