I don't think OWI has enough funds to even think about continuing the main series.

Which is very sad considering how much this series deserves a new game. :(

How would you even know that, Varrok? We don't know how much profit they've made nor how much funding they get from Lorne. From what little we know, NnT was a big commercial success...

Considering how many copies of NnT had to be sold for them to consider AE remake, I'd say a new game in the series should cost twice or trice as much.

Aside from money : Lanning rests on his laurels. He seems tired about the idea of making a new Oddworld video game. One can't do nothing about it.

I think he really wants too. But just can't. Both money and effort.

Plus he probably still has a negative feeling towards the gaming industry due to what happened with SW. It might put him off a bit.

If he ever reads these forums then maybe he would hate the idea of making more games.

What we're trying to say: It's okay to criticise, and it's okay not to like things, but if you're going just to say it's not very good in a non-constructive way, it's not gonna help things get any better.

Examples:
a)Non-constructive criticism:

-Somebody makes something
-The other guy says: "It's shit and you should feel bad about it!"

b)Constructive criticism:

-Somebody makes something
-The other guys says: "I really don't like the X aspect of this. I think your thing would benefit if you change X to Y by Z"

Plus, people tend not to like and/or ignore overly whiny people.

Where did I say "Fangus is going to be a bad game" ? But I did say "the game is a bad idea". Why ? 2 things : 1. If Fangus had anything to do with OWI, you guys will not care about it. 2. The problem with Fangus : idea of using the Stranger engine first. What about the story and all ? Lanning seems confused. Proof : is the game set on Oddworld or not ?

The game is not announced and we have no clear confirmation on the engine. Whether it's Oddworld or not doesn't concern me as long as it's a great game.

I say this about almost every game I hear about.

That said, if it's gonna be a low quality game, it'd be best if it wasn't affiliated with Oddworld brand.

The Stranger Engine was to be used when that engine was new and shiny. It wouldn't be the plan any more.

Read the interview. Lorne is entirely clear about that. Given that he'll be taking charge of the game again, it's going to be a less anthropomorphic game, and it'll be set on Oddworld. It was only ever set elsewhere because he was letting his team take the lead in developing it and he didn't think the style they were coming up with would fit well on Oddworld.

Actually there was an interview with JAW a little while back when they were finishing up work on Stranger HD that mentioned they had plans for converting the Stranger Engine into a modern multiplatform engine that they could use for future games like a possible Stranger sequel or perhaps Fangus, so it still could happen.

If they put in the effort to update it into a modern multiplatform engine, it would be technologically upgraded far beyond its original Xbox capabilities. So vlam's criticisms aren't relevant even in that case.
