I still consider Lornepedia the best name.

Holy Sock 04-28-2015 12:25 PM

Well, I mean, you are a superfan.

Varrok 04-28-2015 12:28 PM

I am a fan of NnT so much that you can call me Fan-Tasty-ic

Xavier 04-29-2015 01:34 AM

I haven't really thought about a name yet. I guess "The Oddworld Encyclopaedia" or "The Oddworld Wiki" are some possibilities, but if someone has a better suggestion I'm all ears.

Encyclopaedia Oddtanica? Or maybe Encyclopaedia Oddmaniac, but it doesn't sound nearly as pretentious.

Encycloddpaedia?

Encyclopaedia Oddmaniac

Ouch that's a blast from the past! I was going to link to some old posts about Oddworld Maniac but I can't stand to look at the posts of 15 years old me.

What do we think of "The Oddworld Lexikon"?

Bullet Magnet 04-29-2015 08:07 AM

A lexicon is a kind of dictionary. I prefer the term "Octavo". The Oddworld Octavo.

Manco 04-29-2015 08:27 AM

I don’t think you can fold webpages though.

Just keep it simple I say, if it’s an update/replacement for The Oddworld Encyclopaedia then why not keep the name? It already has heritage.

Bullet Magnet 04-29-2015 08:31 AM

Encyclopaedias are so Web 1.0. The future is octavo.

STM 04-29-2015 10:58 AM

Magogopedia. >.>

Crashpunk 04-29-2015 11:20 AM

Keep it as The Oddworld Encyclopaedia/Encyclopedia. Either that or just the Oddworld wiki.

Something simple works better in my opinion.

MeechMunchie 04-29-2015 12:21 PM

FeeCopedia

Varrok 04-29-2015 12:54 PM

I googled MO wikipedia page to search for inspiration for the wiki title, but I found that:
:

Microsoft wanted to market the game to casual game players and proposed that the game be called Abe & Munch's Fun Adventures.
From this day I'll be reffering to the game by that title.

Also, Vykkerpedia.
Now say it out loud

Nate 04-29-2015 09:45 PM

I feel horrified on Wil's behalf that y'all are mispelling 'Encyclopædia'.

Varrok 04-29-2015 11:11 PM

Don't know about the others, but I'm doing it on purpose, as I don't have the "æ" button.

Also, both appear to be correct

kjjcarpenter 04-30-2015 03:31 AM

If you're on a Mac, hold down "A" for one second, then select "5". I haven't used Windows in a few years, so I don't know if the same input shortcut applies, but the Mac is designed to accommodate every accent and variation of all the standard letters. It's pretty cool.

FrustratedAssassin 04-30-2015 04:11 AM

On Windows if you hold down "A" then press 5 this happens:

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa5

Varrok 04-30-2015 07:03 AM

I'm not on a Mac. We don't like yer Macs around here in Poland

Crashpunk 04-30-2015 07:12 AM

Also ALT+0230 = æ

Anyway. Have you looked at Gamepedia? Several games use that for their wikis and I really like it's layout. Just something to think about.

You have to suggest the game and gain permission to make the wiki though. Perhaps OWI can give their blessing?

Examples:

Minecraft Wiki
Dota 2 Wiki

Varrok 04-30-2015 09:15 AM

ALT+0230 is ć on my polish keyboard. Which is kind of redundant since I can get that letter by alt+c.

Ridley 04-30-2015 03:57 PM

Shryklopedia

I'd just go with Oddworld Wiki (or Oddworld Encyclopedia to distinguish it from the Oddworld Wiki[a]). Something easily found on Google by people looking up general info, y'know?

FrustratedAssassin 05-01-2015 06:54 AM

Alt+0230 doesn't do anything on my PC. Alt-codes never work for me and I have no idea why.

Manco 05-01-2015 10:37 AM

Do you have Num Lock on? Are you using the numpad on the right of your keyboard or the number keys above the letter keys?

Xavier 05-01-2015 11:20 AM

Ok guys I've set up an Alpha Version of the Wiki, you should be able to start contributing if you want :)

You can access it here:
http://oddworldlibrary.net/wiki/

I've taken the liberty of sharing my view of the rough structure the wiki could have over here:
http://oddworldlibrary.net/wiki/Guideline

Some of the articles of TOE are already migrated but not all of them yet, feel free to help by doing some basic copy pasting and formatting :) Also you will find some pretty old articles dating from when Wil was toying with the idea back in the days.

Again, at this point all feedback and suggestions are welcome.

I was going for stylistic consistency with Wikipedia. dw/i

How long is the confirmation code email supposed to take?

Xavier 05-01-2015 01:30 PM

Once you subscribe you should be able to contribute immediately. :)

Ridley 05-01-2015 02:39 PM

:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

You must confirm your email address before editing pages. Please set and validate your email address through your user preferences.
:

A confirmation code has already been emailed to you; if you recently created your account, you may wish to wait a few minutes for it to arrive before trying to request a new code.

Oddworld Encyclopædia requires that you validate your email address before using email features. Activate the button below to send a confirmation mail to your address. The mail will include a link containing a code; load the link in your browser to confirm that your email address is valid.
And that email still hasn't arrived. :fuzsad:

Xavier 05-02-2015 12:52 AM

Hmm this is very weird, I tried it myself with a test user account and when trying with a hotmail email the mail never got trough, I changed the mail to a gmail account and requested a new confirmation mail and I got it.

My guess is that the confirmation mails look too much like spam and that some providers filter them out. I'm going to see if I can change this.

Wil 05-02-2015 02:20 AM

I don't remember writing half of this.
