I think that sligs eyes can survive without their masks/visors that the industrial ones were, because how would they have survived originaly when the masks weren't invented? unless they eventually just adapted to having to wear the masks/visors.

The industrialised ones have to wear masks because of the pollution in the air from the factories, to improve their vison so they can see what's going on, and to cover up their ugly faces. In freedom, there is no pollution, no need for great vison, and no stuffy upper management.
