I'm really afraid of drowning. Seems like the worst possible death to me :S.

Well, happy to report you're utterly wrong. Scientists and other people who know stuff have known for many years that drowning is a blissful way to die, as long as you go with the flow.

Nemo 11-23-2006 11:38 PM

I'm still afraid of the dark.

NOT A RACIST COMMENT IN ANY WAY.
<.< >.>

But yeah, it really spooks me. Same with touching the doors of bathroom stalls.

Bullet Magnet 11-23-2006 11:42 PM

Bloody hell, we're all freaks.

Worse than being ripped apart by large cats?

If I could choose a way to die then that is actually on the top of my list... so... yea... At least then I get to go with style, you know? :)

I have a case of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), which is a mental
problem causing you to count or repeat things an unnessessary number
of times. When it get's really strong you might say accidently touch or
brush by a shelf in the back of a store and it would prompt you to
repeat your action a certain amount of time. Say, for me it might have
been 2, 3, 5, 8, 12, 15, or 25 times that I would repeat my action.
It get's really annoying sometimes and can waste time, but I'm starting to overcome it.

My body also get's itchy and I get goosebumps when I stare at dim surface
with darker cracks in it. Like cracked mud for example. I really get sick of
that, too.

Edit: Well, Havoc, you could give it a try with large cats, but maybe
you would be happier with the hyena pen. I heard they created a
new sling which is used to flip meat into the pen. That's fate
with style.

Bullet Magnet 11-24-2006 03:38 AM

I have a similar thing, but it's more of a quirk than a disorder, and no one notices...

I always wonder though, what happens if something or someone prevents you from doing these compulsive things?

Spirrow 11-24-2006 06:43 AM

Well, you have a guilty conscious and will probably try to make sure
you finish repeating it the next time you're in the same place. I did
some research on OCD about a year ago and there are ways of tackling
it. For example, telling yourself "no" to it and walking away. Since I'm
starting to manage it, if I tried that, I won't even care about it in week
or so.

Bonedust 11-24-2006 07:34 AM

I have:
hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia:which means you are afraid of long words

scrab queen 11-24-2006 03:01 PM

I am very afraid of myself and the fact that when I get obsessed with something, I make it look dangerous to your brain. Like when I was obsessed with anime, I tried to draw a transmutation circle on my sister to make her dissapear. One time I actually believed that naraku was watching me, and controlled me with a jewelshard, and that metroids were infecting my house.
I can relate to super munch in the fact that while infected with these obsessions, when i'm on high alert and i hear a sound (esspecially in small rooms like the bathroom) I get terrified of looking up in fear that the evil entity I pissed off last week or a metroid has attached itself to the ceiling and waiting for me to look up like those stupid people in the movies. it gets really scary when a mouse just so happens to sound like a metroid or one of those alien face huggers. nobody likes a face full of alien wing-wong.

I don't get why some ppl are homophobic. What is there to be afraid of seriously?

We're freaks.

What is so frightening in bees?

(As long as they're at least 50 feet away from you, of course).

However, to me the most appealing way to die is by chloroform. Or whatever it's called. The gas that makes you fall asleep and never wake up (as opposed to poison gas, which actually hurts like hell).

Bullet Magnet 11-24-2006 03:58 PM

Carbon Monoxide?

skillya_glowi 11-24-2006 05:18 PM

No. That makes you choke. Choking doesn't feel very good. At least not to me.

Or wait, were you giving an example of poisonous gas?

Bullet Magnet 11-24-2006 06:20 PM

It will kill you, but you do not notice it happening. It is colourless and tasteless, it bonds to your haemoglobin much more effectively that oxygen, essentially permanently, reducing your ability to transport oxygen, and you pass out and die. Only 5% of your haemoglobin needs to become carboxyhaemoglobin to be fatal.

Spirrow 11-24-2006 06:45 PM

Carbon dioxide is what can be used to peacefully die-at least in some
terms. Basically, you just fall into a fatal sleep, too.

EDIT:
What kind of person is afraid of hand-drawn anime. Sure some
people are uneasy around clown-real or dolls- because of their
cheesy grin. But cartoons...

scrab queen 11-24-2006 07:19 PM

No, not the anime, but myself when I get really hooked on it.

Spirrow 11-24-2006 07:36 PM

Personally, I might like add, BM, that if I wanted to kill myself by choking
on carbon monoxide (seeing as suicide is right around the #1 reason for teenager casualties), my air conditioner has plenty of dusty, unused holes for apparently wire connections perfect for sticking your to mouth and drawing
in nice relaxing breaths.

Scrab Queen, I really don't understand why you might be thinking those
type of things, but then again, we all don't understand each other on
this forum.

Arxryl 11-25-2006 06:40 AM

Well we could either
A) not understand eachother at all
B) understand eachother too well...
C).....well I've only got the two.

But I actually think there is a small amount of understanding. And as a side note, these are phobias. Not everyone has one, and not too many people in one area have the same phobias. It is really hard to completely understand another's phobias because we have no fear of the thing ourselves, so we don't know what exactly scares them or how it scares them.
My little philosophy thingymajiggerwhatchamacallit.

Fuzzle Guy 11-25-2006 08:12 AM

That girl from the Exorcist.

It all started about two years ago when I was on a flash colour blind test on the internet. I did about seven numbers, then one came up that wasn't a number at all. It was a picture of a boat. I typed thirty seven in and there was a sound of a scream as the girl from the Exorcist popped up with knives in her head and her mouth opening and closing. I rand downstaris screaming and didn't go on the internet again for about half a year.

And today, I was watching this wonderful, frankly, fascinating clip on youtube, of this guy, who took a photo of himself every day for god know's how long. It flicked through all the photo's he'd taken of himself, seeing him change throughout the years, really fast, and at the end The girl from the Excorcist popped up instead of the man taking his photo's. T_T. This time I didn't go off screaming, I just jumped out of my skin and hit the back button on firefox.

Edit: Before someone goes 'you mean this girl' and posts an image of her, I'm not scarred of her picture. I'm just scarred of things that pop up with her on (Animated Gif's are crap cause they have no sound so don't even bother)

Mojo 11-27-2006 10:26 AM

I remembers those pranks. Funny, but not when you've seen them already.

"You gotta look to this picture, and then you'll see something cool!"

Yeah right :P.

Zebulon 11-27-2006 12:53 PM

clowns...god i hate clowns...

Arxryl 11-27-2006 01:18 PM

Clowns seem to really scare some people.

A lot of the people I know say that they are afraid of clowns after they saw "It". I watched it and I was laughing my head off because it was so stupid.

Another phobia I have is the fear of not knowing. Say you are in a mansion with only a candle and there are paintings, weird paintings of people, that are hung all over the mansion and no one is with you.... yeah. to me that would be very creepy.

Zebulon 11-27-2006 01:41 PM

i saw "it" with a couple of friends this halloween. pretty good until the ending with the papier mache-spider ruining everything and killing the poor virgin. Directors are´nt supposed to show the monster like that, i´m not a very big fan of epic end-battles(as long as we´re talking movies):)

yeah, paranoia is pretty common. anyone hypochondric?

Rex Tirano 11-27-2006 02:19 PM

Being alone. I hate it.

And being downstairs when it's dark and quiet outside... My imagination runs away with me. ^_^;;

I guess I'm gonna agree with Rob as weel, by saying that drowning has to be the worst way to die. I'd rather fall to my death then drown or burn.

They're not meant to kill The Virgin either.

scrab queen 11-27-2006 04:23 PM

hmm, fuzzle guy, it sounds like one of those sabotage cards from liquid generation... they have you doing these tests like the optical illusion one and what's wrong with the picture games, and then out of nowhere this really scary image comes jumping at you with a blood curdling scream. I couldn't go there for weeks...

6-finger-fred 11-27-2006 06:19 PM

I think I might be obsessive compulsive too. I seem to do that crap and i've thought about it. When your whole family is screwed up one way or the other I have to have something.

Edit: I don't think parasites is a WIERD fear, but a rational one.
I am also afraid of small mammals. Like hamsters. They bite hard.

Anglophobia- Fear of England or English culture, etc. That is a real fear. That cracks me up.

Nate 11-27-2006 07:30 PM

Saying that xyz is a wierd fear is a silly opinion. There are 6.5 billion people on this planet (according to max, at least) so, chances are, there's a person somewhere who is afraid of anything and everying.

Just like how there's someone, somewhere, who's got a fetish about every thing you may mention. I recommend staying in your house, bricking up your front door and never touching the internet.

....That's why I make it a point never to watch horror movies.

I'm not afraid of clowns, but I do think they're pretty obsolete...And plus about 3 months ago John & Jeff (a radio show I listen to) served up this solid idea that over 60% of clowns are paedophiles. That’s the only reason for me to be uneasy around them that I can find….

Jordan 11-29-2006 07:26 AM

I can't stand spiders, seriously, I think I have arachnaphoebia(sp?)
I feel them crawling all over me when I go to bed, even though they aren't.
I don't mind bees, it's just wasps, has anyone noticed that they attack you for no reason? My mum stood on one when she was little, apparently she hit the ceiling lol.
My sister has a phobia of feet, its mega funny, she hates mine.
