i hope there will be a DVD release..im from Philippines 4 Gods sake.. its impossible to have a big screen release here.. i'll just ask my sister to buy me 1 just like wat i did with the book :)
|
Actually BM, the 'Hello' and 'Follow me' thing was for programming, not for an actual conversation, so it might change to just, 'Come on'. Yet, I don't think that I will be one of the only things that OWI have to worry about making the AO movie.
|
I expect in the AO movie Abe will talk like he does in MO, with extra phrases that are different every time, and they might have to change it a bit so they don't repeat scenes over and over again.
|
In AE Abe also used different phrases when saying "Hello". But I'm
guessing his mood went straight along with the mood of another mudokon if it was sick or depressed or fine and dandy. |
:
Oh well, he'll come back eventually. |
I don't know when or if he will come back :(
|
Ive got a feeling he will
|
My friend said he probably got fired, he probably just got bored of answering people's questions and wanted a break.
|
I'd say it was more the fact that they wanted to get across to the fans that no new information would be coming for some time and that they should stop sending Alf questions. Much better than if they had just stopped updating the website and left it as it was.
|
nate you could be right. There probably too many question and post that Alf couldn't cope. Plus probably alf was reveal too much to the fans.
So from what I read do think there going to conflict between muds? Like abe ask one mud to follow him and he doesn't. Another thing:p Will it have alternative endings do you think? Certainly I like to see that. 1. Saved 99 mudokons from Rapture Farms 2. Killed half or more 3. Killed them all |
maybe as a bonus on the dvd, we could see an alternative ending :p
|
If it is released in the cinema first and then the DVD, on the DVD at the start you should get to choose Abe's path, like one good and one evil.
|
Not going to happen. CG movies cost too much to make multiple endings that won't be significantly released. They're not like live-action movies where you have the actors, cameras, etc on set anyway and it's just a matter of keeping everyone there an hour longer.

Somehow I doubt the first Oddworld movie will appear on the big screen unless Oddworld magicaly teamed up with paramount or something. It's a strange concept, we've learned to love it as a game but the film industry works very diffrent. Lorne might have his traces as a digital art creator, but not as a movie director. Which is all that matters. A publisher is not going to risk major cash drains by putting a doubtfull movie in the theaters.
And to be quite blunt, I don't think the Oddworld movie belongs in a theater. I mean come on... it's about some allien figure with no significant background and a purpose that no average theater visitor will even appreciate. It has evil tall figures that walk on their arms, have huge heads, and are aided by worms in mechanical pants. Next to that, they will have to create acceptable graphics. 10 years ago they might have been the lead on graphics like that, but they had to give up that position quite some time ago. Especialy in the film industry there are simply bigger and better companies for it now. Then again, everyone can beat the shit they call Pixar... So concidering all this, do you realy think the company that is going to publish the Oddworld movie is going to risk losing hundreds of thousands of dollars by putting it in the theater? I think not... (Not saying I don't have faith in Lorne or the movie. I will be getting the movie as soon as I can and I can't wait till it's here. But I just don't expect to see it in a theater). |
I think it will be a big screen movie, but it wouldn't matter either way both are good as long as they make a movie I just wonder how abe sneaking around rupture farms will be portrayed in a movie not just that but all the gameplay
|
Havoc; I hereby list a number of recent CG movies that have been (or will be) released in cinemas despite having questionable plots/characters/design and non-studio teams behind them:
Happy Feet Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius The Ant Bully Delgo Monster House (actually this one is Sony but I'm listing it here for crapness' sake) Valiant Hoodwinked Doogal More that I've never even heard of can be seen listed here. My point is that distributors are going crazy over CG movies at the moment so, given that OWI has a movie with a strong plot, excellent design, great production values and an established series with millions of sales, they should have no problem selling themselves. |

Actually, I see a problem on the proformance level of the Oddworld movie.
One of the few problems I see of seeing Oddworld Quintology series on film is simple. The plot is changing constantly. Let's look at AO, shall we? At first, we see that Abe is working at Rupture Farms, but suddenly finds out that he and his brothers are now going to be meat. The plot now is to escape enslavement in Rupture Farms, before he kills himself. This goes on for a while, until Abe eventually kills himself. Next, some guy in a mask comes and tells him that he needs to forfill his destiny as the Mudokon savior, by going through two different environments, and going out alive. When he is in the temples, his job is to lit the torches, so there won't be so much darkness anymore. And when he gets both hand tatoos, he gets the power of a half god, and now needs to shut down Rupture Farms. And on top of it all, Abe needs to save his brothers. For a book or a game, this is usually what you see, and makes a pretty good story. However, it will intimidate movie viewers, because there are drastic changes in the plot. When the plot changes in a movie, it's usually small ones, and are enjoyble to see. However, AO just didn't look like a movie to me that would make to much. And if Lorne even thinks about making AE come into the story as well, well, that's even worse. So I am questioning whether or not new fans will like this story too well. Although, the people who have read The Art of Oddworld book might come to see it too. So that would be the pro, but there is always this. Unless there is this movie that has quite the same plot changes, and was successful, that I never heard of, I think that this would be a problem. But still, if the OW movie goes on DVD, the sales wouldn't go up too fast. With a movie in theaters, there would be a lot of advertisment, and lots of people might get interested. A movie on the DVD can't be sold just as much, because not a whole lot of people think that great movies make their way first to DVD. When a movie goes to DVD, it means it's the kind of movie that is better to rent, than to spend $20 on in a theater. So my point is, OWI isn't going to go very far with movies in Blockbuster. But being it's not entirely about the money for them, it might go to DVD first. |
That's why I've been saying all along that the plots of the movie and the games are going to be similar but not identical. It just wouldn't work.
|
I do recon that the original story Lorne had in mind was altered a great deal for making it into a game. In fact I think we won't even get to see a big part of Abe's resque mission in Rupture Farms because that was merely a gameplay element rather then a story line perce. In any case I wouldn't know how they would show it in the movie. Especialy all 99 of them.
Like Nate said, a game story and a movie plot are two very diffrent things. Therefor I don't think we should expect the movie to follow the same path the games did. For all we know, enviorments like Rupture Farms and the temples and such wern't the original locations and Lorne just made those up so he could use the original in an eventual movie. Then again, thats all speculation :p. |
:
Umm, okay. Where did you get.... :
I've had official word on.... :

Game to Movie
I am starting doubt that this movie is going to be. You guys got me thinking. Think all the movies that were originally games turned out to be movies.
Tomb Raider 1 & 2(only seen the first one and was really bad. No game plot in it but Lorne is.) Blood Rayne (It coming I think.) Is it the world CGI going to change everything? It will really hard to convert game to movie....¬_¬ Lost for words. It just have my doubts seeing TR. |
don't forget that a couple of the game movies that are out now are made by Uwe Boll who is a terrific asshole (he will make bloodrayne I think)
this is the kind of people I hate, because they give movies of games bad name. |
Okay Cullen, I'm prepared to eat (some of) my words and say that Abe's story is about him saving his friends, being that that is the basic nature of his plight. Without that, he has no reason for being a hero (as compared to Munch who has to also respawn his species). One would assume that Rupturefarms would remain as the setting as it fits that plot well and is familiar.
|
I agree with NDW
it would be disapointing if they leave RuptureFarms out, it's such a fammiliar place for fans :) |
:
Okay, well YES, it's very, very likely that it's about him saving his fellow Muds, but you can't assume that it will be set in RuptureFarms. Yes, it would be dissapointing not to have it in the movie, but you still can't assume that that's where it will be (Or partially be) set. |
RuptureFarms is synonymous with Industrial activity and the Glukkons' way of life. It's an obvious example of screwing up nature and natives', which hits close to home (for the audience) because the products it makes can be found in any market. Theoretically, it could be replaced by a different facility, but that might alienate the fans a bit.
|
Yea but thats the problem. The movie isn't being made just for the fans. The movie is made for a very wide public, and for that reason Lorne might need to cut a few things here and there. Not necicerily Rupture Farms or any other factories, but small story changes or enviorment changes are bound to happen.
Damnit Lorne! Feed us some info! |
Of course it's not just being made for the fans, but alienating them would be idiocy. RuptureFarms' place in the Oddworld mythos is logical, artistic and ironic, but nobody's saying the story will not have been greatly spruced up.
