You obviously didn't get the joke. Cyber-Slig thought I was disrespecting his work when actually I was just commenting about the fact that it wasn't appearing on the forum properly.

But that style of writing is part of graffiti. Graffiti as a whole includes everything associated with it, and that "crap" as you call it, comes under the catagory of graffiti.

Graffiti as an art form is debateable. I'm not going to get into a discussion here about what parts of graffiti are art and what parts aren't. In my mind, since every piece of work I produce has a considerable amount of work put into it, it's all art. I love graffiti, any graffiti. I think it's an essential part of modern, urban culture, which is more than just a form of hip-hop culture vandalism associated with bad nieghbourhoods and poor borough funding.

If you don't like it, that's fine, but you don't need to disassociate and distance that form of graffiti from the rest of graffiti by considering it to not be what you would call "real graffiti". If it's writing, and it's on a wall, then it's graffiti. You can't decide what is and isn't graffiti man, what's "real graffiti" to you may not be so "real" to the next person and his brother.

well, i have a mentos parody for ya, should be a bit funny. not sure if its against any rules. oh well.

I just can't get over the blatant wrongness of that statement.

I mean, first of all, art is hung in a gallery, and not a museum. Secondly, graffiti is not just restricted to bathrooms, although that said I've never even seen any graffiti in the public restrooms where I live. Graf is all over the place.

But may I say that before you go off deciding what is art and what isn't, that you take a good look at what you consider to be "art". Because at the moment, I'd say your idea of art is very cliched, and uncultured.

Sekto Springs 07-15-2004 02:38 PM

Oh god, this is by far the worst graffiti I've ever done. I'm so embarassed. You'd think someone who spends as much on the computer as he does graffing would have mastered this.

oddguy 07-15-2004 03:05 PM

It isn't as bad as you make it out to be.
Is that your design that you were telling us about...or something else?

No it's not. I usually plant a bunch of shrieking or angry faces in my art.

SeaRex 07-15-2004 04:50 PM

SS, what does "Vorscythe" mean anyway?

a flock of seagulls 07-15-2004 04:59 PM

actually i believe it says "Vor sythe" anyways i tried to make another, the alien head design wasnt supposed to be there, but i noticed it looked like an alien, so i went with the flow

You tell me Mr. Vice President. Well, I made the word 'Vorscythe' from the beginning letters of the word 'Kill' in different languages, I forget how I organised them. I'm too lazy to re-jumble it. Plus, it's a kick ass name, just listen to it, Vorscythe. Yum.

Cyber-Slig 07-15-2004 05:24 PM

Good picture.Try and do a hard very detailed oddworld creature now like ummm...A gabbit? They have allot of facial detail

Disgruntled Intern 07-15-2004 05:32 PM

Not bad for a first "I don't know what I'm doing" attempt.

I glanced at a picture of my friend Bridgette from a couple years ago and started.

I know it's crap, but feel free to rub it in my face anyway.

Cloverfield 07-16-2004 12:30 AM

I might check it out if I get a spare moment. I remember spending hours on the graffiti editor in JSRF ... so I'd probably spend hours here too. Althoug it was worth it in JSRF, because you got to graffiti your "own work" around everywhere.

I don' really know much about real graffiti, but I think some of those guys are much more talented than some of the "art" you see in galleries and the like. I've seen some really kick ass graffiti around.

Abe Babe...

Killa_47 07-16-2004 01:55 AM

Thanx for your tips codek.
I'll keep at it.

Codek 07-16-2004 02:41 AM

Hey Killa, here's the sort of thing you should be starting off with:

Just drew that to give you an idea. Only took a few minutes but you can see where I'm going with it. Start out simple like that, add a few linkages between words. Flare out the serifs and make it more vivid by giving it a "shadowed" border.

Gradually you can work your way up to bigger and better stuff, with more color, images, linkages, and other complexities.

a flock of seagulls 07-16-2004 02:44 AM

and he'll eventually become as good as this?

Codek 07-16-2004 02:47 AM

Basically, yes. That sort of thing is something you pick up. The more you do graffiti, the better you get.

Codek 07-16-2004 03:06 AM

Here's an evil skull thingy I just did...

Sekto Springs 07-16-2004 03:16 AM

Nice job, Codek. Truly a work of art.
I tried implimenting my work into that program but I have a steadier hand with a real can.

I am yeah. My tagname is Nuklear.

*CB goes all teacher*

Pleeeeeaaaaaase! Tell me you're not one of those annoyong little scrotums who just make the town centre/ sides of shops/ buses/ trains/bridges/ etc etc etc look worse than they are and endanger their own lives by doing their half assed attempts at a signature by covering every available surface in random tags and swear words!!!!

Pleeeeeaaase! No!

Tell me you use a real official grafitti wall installed by the council... please!!!!

Or maybe even just make your own walls look like shit!?

*CB switches out of teacher mode*

Anyhoo... moving on...

Yeah your artwork is great... everyone's is geat and it is... when done in the above example styles.... a ligitimate art form!

Excellent guys... but lets keep in on legal grafitti areas and on the computer or paper! ;)

Sekto Springs 07-16-2004 03:26 AM

Quiet! The world is a graf artist's canvas. We paint where we please.

Em... no it ISN'T actually!

You'll be painting where you please when your parents have to hawl ass down to the police station to speak to the police about your criminal damage!

Or you fall off the ledge on a bridge over hanging a motorway and break your back... what would you tag then? Window ledges?

Or how about if you come home to find that some f**k wit has tagged or grafitti designed "where they pleased" on the side of your house?

Its actually against the law to "tag2 any public or private property!!!

And I for one find it unsightly when it isn't in the designated place!
