So, I just finished watching The Thing (the new one). It was a lot better than I expected, but it wasn't up to par with the '82 version. The trailers didn't give a really good impression of it in my opinion. It was also a bit more action oriented than scary.
Huge respect for the guys for making the thing itself look really good though! (Good as in genuinely creepy and alien-like.) I'm not sure whether I liked the final part or not, it was well done though. Also one thing that bothered me a bit was that a lot of the scenes were really similar to the John Carpenter's version, even though this is a prequel. Not saying that that's necessarily a bad thing though, just that there were some really similar scenes. Overall, good. Not great, not horribly bad, but an enjoyable movie. Also props for putting Adebisi in the movie, haha. Oh, and in one part, the thing's arm falls off and it looked like an albino paramite, hah. |

V for Vendetta. Very... inspiring.
|
Does this mean I can rant about the movie again?
It's been years since I've done that! |

And it's still a very good film.
|
They turned the look of the party into Nazis and the taste of the party into conservatives.
They also turned V into a hero. I call that Missing. The. Whole. Point. |
:
I so much hate the movie. how could they completely destroy the essence of the comic? oh Zack Snyder. never mind |

I actually really enjoyed the Watchmen movie.
And I honestly wasn't expecting to. |
The Room,
That's right, I watched The Room, and it was great. I watched it on my own but there were some points where I was actually laughing to myself, the writing is awful! But it's the acting that makes this movie so bad its good! |

And the main problem was making V a pretty unambiguous hero. Which isn't the point. |
:
|
I don't know. They painted a very clear picture in the film, which was part of the problem. I wouldn't put it that V wasn't ambiguous enough as much as I would that Norsefire were utterly and unambiguously the bad guys.
I remember reading somewhere that Alan Moore was complaining that the film totally missed the mark, but liked that Anonyfags had adopted Guy Fawkes as their motif. |

This is just what happened with X-Com. If it didn't have the same name, nobody would care. |
The new season of Skins started a few days ago, watched the first episode. Eh, it was really weird. Not necessarily in a good way. I did like the song in the beginning though, I might post it to the Music thread.
EDIT: Just saw the second episode. Had a pretty sad twist near the end... |
I saw the Cleveland Show do a parody episode of my favorite film, Die Hard. It was really funny and it stayed true to the film :)
|
Call me a faggot, but I've been watching How I Met Your Mother and really enjoying it. I used to put it off as being a lame, generic sitcom, but I've found it's actually quite well-written with lots of clever and witty jokes.
|
Faggot.
|
I like it too, unlike most sitcoms...
...faggot. |
Faggot.
|
Saw that one coming. Ah well, we all have our guilty pleasures.
Right? Right? |
Faggots are like, so gay.
|
It's not as bad as Two and a Half Men. I fucking hate that show.
Faggot. |
Coincidentally, I always follow up someone saying 'Yeah I really like Big Bang theory!' as they tend to with a not quite muted mumble of 'what a faggot'.
I hate that show. |
Yeah, fuck the Big Bang Theory.
How I Met Your Mother is pretty funny though. Anyways, I recently got Netflix and have been using the fuck out of it. I watched Red State yesterday and just finished Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Red State had some good action scenes, but the plot and characters seemed off a bit. Still enjoyed most of it. Kind of wish Kevin Smith had made a Clerks 3 or something rather than this as his last movie though. Tucker and Dale vs Evil was pretty funny I thought. |
I don't see the appeal of Neil Patrick Harris. Everyone I've talked to has a huge boner for him, and I can't wrap my brain around it.
Like, to not give a fuck about him is one thing, but so many people have spoken of him like God descended from the heavens, squatted down, and pinched NPH out of his holy anus right in front of them. I certainly don't care about Doogie Howser, and what I've seen of How I Met Your Mother was nothing to write home about. The fact that he was in that contemptible Smurfs movie doesn't help his case either. The critical consensus of that film could be summarized thusly; "Sucked... except for NPH". That's like saying Alec Baldwin saved "The Cat in the Hat". |
I don't really care about Neil Patrick Harris. He's alright. I like Barney Stinson, though.
And nothing can save The Cat in the Hat. Nothing. |

Spartacus: Vengence.
So far its pretty good but it's hard to fill the void that is Andy Whitfield. The new guy plays Spartacus rather well but it's just not the same :( |
Needs more Doctore.
Lots more Doctore |

Also, this: (But mainly Dr. Horrible) |
The new Old Spice Ads. I love them so much!
They are fucking amazing. |
Yeah, I don't like Dr. Horrible either. Forgot to mention that one.
I think the only thing I ever liked him in was Starship Troopers, and his role was tertiary at best. It's not just NPH though. I have a problem with most "funny men", celebrities that build their careers on comedy as opposed to being more dynamic. There are, of course, a few exceptions. There are also some funny men who just aren't cut out for role diversity, such as Jim Carrey, but bless him he tries. Also (and this is just me), I believe that for a funny person to be truly effective they also have to look funny. NPH is as plain as can be, and when he says something humorous, it almost clashes with his body language which is saying "I am not funny". |
Crashpunk, shouldn't that go to Bits and Pieces rather than this thread?
Anyways, I've been (re)watching some South Park episodes, mostly from seasons 7 and 8. |
If memory serves me correctly those are the best seasons. The show started to get kinda lame after season 8.
