It's a special kind of Mobile Suit.

~Oprilthevykker~ 12-15-2009 09:39 PM

I love Gundam.

Strike Witch 12-15-2009 09:42 PM

No you don't, you go away.

It's a special kind of Mobile Suit.

Is that a suit made out of mobile phones, or a suit that is mobile without a human body inside of it?

I think I'd almost prefer the former, noisy as it may be. The latter kind of creeps me out. Then again, so did Klutter.

Strike Witch 12-15-2009 09:44 PM

A Mobile Suit is a giant robot with a person inside driving it.

Mobile SUIT (MS in short) is short for mobile space utility instrument tactical.

Gotta love engrish backronyms.

Disgruntled Intern 12-15-2009 09:47 PM

I knew what a Gundam was the entire time.

I've actually built a few of the models. HO HO

Strike Witch 12-15-2009 09:49 PM

Ooh? What series?

~Oprilthevykker~ 12-15-2009 09:50 PM

I loved Gundam seed. Sorta.

Strike Witch 12-15-2009 09:51 PM

Then you suck, SEED was the worst.

That guy and some giant fucking grim reaper thing. As far as the series goes, I have no clue. The boxes had some sort of chinky writing all over them, and I don't read no chinky writing

~Oprilthevykker~ 12-15-2009 09:55 PM

I suck? liking a series that you don't, in your opinion means I suck?

Thanks, that meant a lot to me.

Strike Witch 12-15-2009 10:10 PM

That's a Gelgoog, One Year War era, from the Universal Century timeline. Basically, the bad guys would have won the war had they rushed it into production, but they dicked around with stupid prototypes too much and it ended up coming out too late.

And by Grim Reaper thing, I'm betting

Gundam Deathscythe?

Josh 12-15-2009 10:36 PM

I watched Something About Mary. There is something about that film: it's shit.

Gundam Deathscythe?

That's the one.

Back on track: Inglorious Basterds. It had its moments, but generally speaking it was just so-so.

Josh 12-16-2009 08:29 AM

I'm about to watch the new Harry Potter, is it any good?

Wings of Fire 12-16-2009 08:31 AM

Nope.

used:) 12-16-2009 08:35 AM

Nuh uh.

MeechMunchie 12-16-2009 08:37 AM

Nay.

Disgruntled Intern 12-16-2009 08:54 AM

The new Harry Potter was two hours and some change of what should have been a 30-40 minute sequence. It's horrible.

Josh 12-16-2009 08:58 AM

Well.... shit.

Y'know, from on objective point of view, it was a very good movie. Well shot, tense and all around entertaining.

Everyone but me (and uh...you) seems go so apeshit over it, but I didn't really like it. I'm pretty easy to please film wise, but every time I think back on it I like it less and less.

Maybe it's foolish to think this, but I'm willing to bet a significant portion of the people who love it so much are just Tarantinotards.

Anyway, trying to get excited for Avatar is hard. So much stuff about it (the technology I mean) is super awesome, but I find it hard to give a shit about the movie itself.

Oh fuck that was so poorly thought out. Like how they tied up the loose ends at the end "Oh yes, i'm the half blood prince".

I was underwhelmed the first time I saw it. The second time, I just fucking loved it. That scene in the theatre where her face is being projected unto the smoke is one of the most striking bits of film making that I have ever seen.

Havoc 12-16-2009 12:58 PM

Titanic is on TV right now. After all those years it's still a damn impressive movie to watch.

That was one of the few plot points I enjoyed. Not as much as you, I think, but I enjoyed it just the same.

Anyway, I just dislike Tarantino in general. I think he's one of the biggest fucking rip-offs of all time, and the fact that when someone called him on the fact that there is another movie of THE SAME FUCKING NAME and a very similar, albeit less graphic plot, he denied ANY fucking connection. Because, you know, he hasn't been ripping off Japanese movies for years now, so the idea of him doing it in this day and age is completely insane.

ALSO, BJ NOVAK NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE MOVIE. HE'S A HORRIBLE COMEDIAN THAT CAN'T FUCKING ACT. HE SUCKS ON THE OFFICE, AND HE SUCKED IN THIS MOVIE. DROOPY EYED SON OF A BITCH MADE THE SAME UGLY FUCKING FACE CONTINUOUSLY THROUGHOUT THE FILM.

Alcar 12-16-2009 02:50 PM

I have to come clean.

I have never seen Titantic or that other movie everyone has watched. I forget it's name.

This.
I've never really enjoyed Tarantino's films. He basically does what George Lucas does in that he pastes a bunch of stolen ideas together and changes the names. The difference? Lucas uses glue, Tarantino licks the backs and sticks them up his arse. Why did everyone go batshit over Kill Bill? Its okay. That's it. Just okay. Also, Tarantino himself creeps me right the fuck out.

From Dusk Till Dawn
was one of the few decent titles with his name attached, and that's only because he fit so perfectly into the role of the creepy, sexually repressed, psychopathic brother. He was playing himself basically.

It's one of those movies where you shouldn't have high expectations plot-wise. It's pretty much just Dances with Wolves with giant blue elves, only minus Kevin Costner (or any notable actor outside of Sigourney Weaver in a secondary role).
Visually, I think it looks great, and will serve as a placeholder for Oddworld for my semi-annual fantasy/sci-fi movie fix. Hellboy 2 was last year's, and it was the first since King Kong several years before.

Wings of Fire 12-16-2009 05:08 PM

Wow. That was one of the most stupendously sad endings I have ever seen.

Onto ZZ and Eureka 7 now.

Nate 12-16-2009 07:09 PM

I've never been a Tarantino fan. I watched Pulp Fiction and my only reaction was "What was the big deal about that?". I haven't seen any of his other films.

But I fucking loved Inglorius Basterds. Maybe it's just the Jew revenge fantasy in me, but I thought it was brilliant.

I'm not sure how true that is; I've heard him interviewed about that film. He's vague about why he chose that name, yes, but he didn't deny that there was a connection.

I loved Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill, but I can't stand Tarantino as a person or his fan base.

Disgruntled Intern 12-16-2009 09:35 PM

Nate, he denied it at some point. I remember it specifically because Rue Morgue now rips on that fact as much as they rip on Grindhouse for being fucking horrible.

Tarantino is not a popular man over at the ole Rue Morgue editors desk, it seems.

Josh 12-16-2009 10:32 PM

Fuck, the new Harry Potter film DOES suck.

THEY CHANGED EVERYTHING! THE FIRST SCENE NEVER HAPPEND! TONKS FOUND HARRY ON THE TRAIN, NOT LUNA! IT WAS ALSO BORING!

enchilado 12-16-2009 10:43 PM

It was very boring, and there was some fucked up scene with Ginny in the Room of Requirement.

Also, people who haven't read the books probably didn't have a fucking clue what was going on.

But they've been doing that in all the books.

THEY CHANGED EVERYTHING! McGONAGALL DIDN'T FIND OUT ABOUT NORBERT AND RON DIDN'T GET DETENTION IN THE FORBIDDEN FOREST IT WAS NEVILLE ACTUALLY!

If anything, I'm more irritated by the amount they cut out of Tom Riddle's backstory, because without knowing his obsession with artifacts of the Hogwarts' founders how will Harry be able to find the other horcruxes? I suspect they will somehow find a way to reinstate it as filler to push Deathly Hallows in to two films.
