-   -   "Oddbox" Announced: All 4 Oddworld games to be released on PC via Steam (http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?t=18590)

Lord Stanley 02-09-2010 03:51 PM

I've been watching SW and MO on YouTube just to keep myself amped for the coming games. Yeah, I know AO and AE are part of it, but since they're not new, we don't have to be as concerned.

Taco 02-10-2010 12:18 AM

I still check the Steam store every day to check for the OddBox D:

Latest quote of Lorne about the Oddbox...

:

Not officially announced yet, but this year will be "the oddbox" on Steam. All 4 games will be available. :-)
It went from end 2009 - begin 2010 to just (somewhere during) 2010

Josh 02-10-2010 08:21 AM

Do we spell it OddBox or Oddbox? Not really important, but we need SOMETHING to talk about.

MeechMunchie 02-10-2010 08:26 AM

The Odd Box, if you want to emphasise the TOB joke. OddBox if you want to parody Xbox. Otherwise, OddBox.

Rayrockslots 02-10-2010 08:50 AM

I should know this by now but why doesn't Oddworld Inhabitants get the games on Xbox live? Is there a reason or is at Lorne is far too busy? :fuzconf:

Another thing, I know he must have his reasons in continuously missing dead lines but how about instead of announcing what he has planned simply giving us an apology for his constant delays? Yes Lorne, you are a genius but c'mon, thats just rude! :fuzmad:

Crashpunk 02-10-2010 09:24 AM

Good point, it'll be good if MO and SW were released on the PSN too

Because Microsoft don't give a rat's arse, and they kind of have to be on board and helpful with such a thing.

Crashpunk 02-10-2010 01:10 PM

Same could be said also with Sony

Wil 02-10-2010 01:34 PM

Except it can't, because they've been really eager and helpful getting AO and AE onto PSN.

Crashpunk 02-10-2010 01:41 PM

Oh right. I fogot about that

Joke?

Grieva 02-10-2010 03:04 PM

The OddBox, TOB or not to be? that is the question, ....if you pronounce it a certain way

Well can't we make them give a ratz arse somehow? It may not sound like much but maybe if we all pull together and get enough people to put in requests for it to be on Xbox live they'll start giving a damn. Didn't OWI agree with Microsoft to release their games on Xbox? Or has that just been forgotten?

Forgotten most likely, especially since MS ditched on Stranger's Wrath. You dont necessarily need MS to give a damn, just some publisher.

Versus 02-11-2010 04:04 AM

Maybe AE and AO will have better resolution? Not only 640. I think that sources are much better quality.

Wil 02-11-2010 07:38 AM

I doubt the resolution of AO and AE on Steam will be changed. After all, they are both already on Steam, and the resolution hasn't changed. Call it a hunch.

Also, they're being ported to Steam more through a process of reverse engineering than going to the original artistic and digital source material for the games.

A campaign to try and convince them to get on board isn't a bad idea, but I think it would take coordination and backing the likes of which OWF just doesn't have right now. And in the past, members have emailed Microsoft requesting that Stranger's Wrath be made backwards compatible for the Xbox 360 and received replies from folks who were enthusiastic about the idea, but sadly it's not the customer service folks' call.

That deal was forgotten when Microsoft backed out of publishing SW, yes. Remember EA were hoping for a PS2 port for a while, and it wasn't Microsoft that stood in the way.

Lord Stanley 02-11-2010 07:51 AM

From all I've heard (and seen) of MO, the gameplay isn't too good and the story isn't too well developed. I think the reason we're so excited about it is because it's Oddworld. If it didn't star Abe, I think nobody would've bought it.

Grieva 02-11-2010 08:57 AM

My name is nobody

I definately would have still bought it, Oddworld is Oddworld

Versus 02-11-2010 11:12 AM

Max the Mug, what kind of reverse engineering you are talking about? Versions for Steam were made from original sources, aren't they?

Wil 02-11-2010 11:56 AM

No, they pretty much take the finished game and do things to it that make it work on modern versions of Windows. That's my understanding.

What about a publicity stunt? Something to open the public's eyes to Oddworld. I mean it used to be HUGE! People loved it, but forgotten. Maybe an advertising campaign can be arranged for when OWI finally does what ever it's doing.

Versus 02-12-2010 04:42 AM

Hm... But my old AO and AE (not Steam) are working on XP. Is Steam version include original games only patching them for online shopping?
I hope, that Oddbox will have maybe a slightly improved graphics. I will be happy :-)

1) Basically with the new versions on steam you need steam to be able to launch the game.

2)AO and AE definitely no, MO and SW probably no.

If they do not improve a graphics, why it's taking so long? :flames:

I think Oddbox release date "Q4/2010" or "Q1/2011".

Nate 02-12-2010 03:06 PM

Because the architecture and API for the PC is completely different to the Xbox. Needs a lot of reprogramming.

And what are you basing your predictions on?

Taco 02-12-2010 03:41 PM

IGN still says Q1 2010 and that seems reasonable. It'll either come out this month, or next month or when it's done damn it

If they don't even change it a little i will just be a Bad Port. :(

Lord Stanley 02-13-2010 02:13 AM

Even if they don't change anything, I still want to play them!

Don't worry, they will change it a little. By making it playable with keyboard and mouse.
