.... before trying to do donuts in the driveway, sez Pilot.
You know, usually we find these random things about a boner some loser pulled on the internet and post them for fun, but this time I'm the loser.
Well, a few weeks ago some friends were coming over to my house from Sacramento... they were picking me up so we could drive to Reno to see a car show.
My dad has this 1957 Cadillac that my friends wanted to see, so about an hour before they came by I decided to go fire up the old Caddy to pull it over near the garage to wash it off.
After a lot of reluctance and a little gas I got the car started. Va-ROOM! I'd forgotten how much power the car had. Seeing it was a pretty good distance of dirt between where I was and the paved driveway between the garage and house, I pegged the gas pedal to the floor to see if I could spin the tires! Well, it didn't disappoint me in that regard, as I went power-sliding across the dirt and onto the driveway....
The disappointment came when I went to apply the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.
So careening I went onto the driveway, completely
past where I was
planning on stopping, having to think fast 'cause I couldn't stop! I left the pavement once more and entered the gravel yard, steering around the barbeque pit, trying to put the car into reverse to stop my forward movement. When that didn't work I thought to turn off the key but by that time I was already where you see me below.
Did I say this was my
dad's car?
Getting it out was a chore because the whole car was 'high centered' over the fence and the wheels were just digging holes in the dirt and gravel. Plus, to add to my misery, a bent fencepost has stuck underneath the front suspension arm, so I couldn't
back out. I ended up driving it completely over the fence into the horse pasture to get it free.
The miracle was.... not a single dent or scratch, but the fence required a bit of explaining.
