Would any of you guys be interested in watching an anime together?

Like, just asking.

There's this really beautifully-animated slow-paced classical detective/slice of life/mystery show called Hyouka. It's very relaxed and got about four episodes out of 21 out now.

I just thought it might be interesting if you wanted to try watching it with me.

Just asking.

Watching it with you how?
Like at the same time through some kind of teamspeak thing, or?

I'm confused.

Like, it comes out once a week, so like we could do a bookclub style thing where we find time to watch the episode and post our thoughts in a thread or blog or whatever. No rush.

If Xmobb ever release their thing, y'all could watch it at the same time.

I was gonna suggest that. This would be the perfect time to use it. Too bad it's taking them forever to finish it.

I used to watch FMA with a really good friend, but I barely see her any more so I haven't watched anything since we got half way through this one with this girl who kept saying 'nyuh'. Is it about school girls and shit or is it like, a good one? Because if it's the latter I'd be willing to try an episode if you'd like. =)

Oh, I should probably explain the show more.

Hyouka (literally "edible ice", double meaning is "ice cream" which is itself a double meaning for "I Scream") is based off of a series of novels. The theme is classical writing and it's set up in a similar old-style way. The show itself even features classical music as background, along with some really artistic stuff.

The plot concerns Oreki, who is starting up his first year at a new highschool. Oreki is a really intelligent guy, but he hates expending energy, no matter what. His philosophy in life is "if you don't have to do it, don't do it. If you have to do it, make it quick." This is a sharp comparison with his friend Satoshi, who is a cheery, loud, effeminate boy who enjoys telling lies and joking about. However, at the start of the school year, Oreki recieves a postcard from his sister who is in India, asking him to join the old highschool club she used to be in, the Classics Club, which is about to be disbanded because there are no members. Arriving at the club, it turns out that there is, in fact, someone there: Chitanda, a very curious, inquisitive girl who has very deep, mesmerizing, beautiful eyes. She is confused by an odd mystery of sorts: The door was open when she arrived, but Oreki had to unlock it. Oreki is drawn in by Chitanda's insane curiosity and the pair and Satoshi go on a miniature problem-solving expedition. These events end up drawing the grumpy Oreki into joining the Classics Club anyway.

After solving some other mundane mysteries around the school like libary-book schedule strangeness, a ghost story in the music room and so forth, Chitanda explains to Oreki the reason she joined the Classics Club:

45 years ago, during the days of student activism and protests, Chitanda's uncle, Sekitani Jun was a member of the club. He used to tell Chitanda about it all the time when she was a child, until one day when Chitanda heard about an incident in the club from him that made her cry so much that she completely forgot. This signifies trauma as Chitanda has very good memory. Because of this, and the fact her uncle disappeared several years ago overseas, Chitanda wants to figure out what happened in the Classics Club, and as such she has turned to Oreki's deductive skills to help her. They they track down all the anthologies the club has released. Inside they discover a book called the Hyouka, which tells that a certain incident made Chitanda's uncle into a legend, but it was not the story of a legendary hero....

Eh, I don't know if it'll be my thing, but sure, I'll give it ago if you want, if it's taken inspiration from works of classic fiction maybe it'll be half decent?

It actually sounds pretty decent. I'll watch the first episode tonight I guess. Nothing better to do.

This thing tends to play everything known to man.

Google Mazui Subs or ask joe

Just give it a whirl if you have the time and let me know what you think.

Is there a specific time we're supposed to watch? Or just when we have a spare of the moment?

I could stream something like this, but it'd probably put my twitch account at risk.

But I will watch it in my own time anyways.
