After receiving a recruitment package last week, and giving it some thought, I have followed guidelines and sent my application to the military.

Why?

Well, it sounds like a lot of fun. Plus, it'll give me things I so badly need. These include fitness (I have been recently pumping dumbells for a few weeks; I've noticed a change in my physique), social skills (I mostly say nothing. And when I do, it's some smart ass remark).

As you could imagine, my dad is disappoint. The main reason being, "BUT YOU AM SHOTTED BY TALIBANZ!?" I've told him again and again:

1.) They don't always send you to Afghanland.
2.) I'm not applying for a combat role

More specifically, I'm aiming for logistics, which is that annoying voice in your mic telling you where the bad guys are. I've always liked that kinda shit. The physical training is still required since all personnel will be recalled to serve in a military police role or 'emergency combat role', which I assume comes into play once China decides to delete fucking everything.

Then my dad says, 'why not get a proper career?' While I do enjoy the jobs I've had, I eventually get bored of it. And I'm not signing on benefits; that shit's just depressing.

Word will possibly arrive post-Christmas. Here's to getting enlisted!

Not sure how it works in your country, but I assume you guys still have separate branches? Which one did you enlist in?

The thought of joining the military has been in the back of my mind a lot the past few years, overall it seems like something I would do if I get to be older and just don't seem to be going anywhere. Even though it isn't my first choice, I have the upmost respect for people who do pursue it. I know quite a few people that went that direction with their lives. Best of luck to you.

Anyway don't let them brainwash you into being... whatever people become after the army They like break you down to build you up again or something like that.

EDIT: well, I guess if this is what you really want to do, then good luck with it. If you get shot I won't actually know about it, but try not to be anyway.

They do teach you a fuckton of skills in the army - If you're fit enough it seems like it's worth doing at least a short stint. One of my friends was an engineer in the army for a little while and it did him a world of good.

However what puts me off is that you can't leave easily if you don't like it (at least until your agreed term is finished), if a war breaks out you'll probably be expected to fight in it (which would suck if you don't agree with the political reasons), and in my case I'll probably have difficulty getting on with my peers. Also I'd have to shave off my dreadlocks and get rid of my beard. So sod that. :P

But good luck to you if that's what you want to do, it'll be beneficial to you if you enjoy a new experience and don't get sent off to war.

Like I said mr.odd, I'm not applying for a combat role.

I also never said war is a good thing or a fun after school activity.

The package says, 'the army builds character and develops personal skills which can be used for service, or in the civilian workplace.
