I was in Tesco tonight to simply pick up some beer, since a 6 pack of Coors Light was all I had I went to the express checkout. Suddenly I heard the woman on the checkout say "Have you got ID?"

I thought she was talking to me, but then I noticed the guy in front of me was being ID'd for his purchase of just HDMi cables, I'm not joking here, it was the only thing he was buying, and he had to show ID

He looked confused but the checkout lady said that it came up that she had to ID him for it.

Yeah, because you know, we don't want underage kids getting drunk off HDMi Cables right? We must also be aware of underage kids trying to smoke them or stab people with them...

Seriously, is there an age restriction on some simple video cables? Why?

I got ID'd for my beer, but it makes sense, because it's alcohol!

Probably a glitch with the checkout data, and she was new to the job/a jobsworth...

But even so, some people really do lack common sense - Being a till monkey isn't an excuse for that.

Y'know, I vaguely remember this being an issue for some reason at some point in the past. I feel like there's some sort of reasoning behind it, and at the same time I feel like some part of what I'm remembering is total bullshit.

Are you sure he wasn't buying a game with it or something?

I thought that it had a lower case i Wil. Like the HD formats.

Even when looking at TV's, It's lower case, like 1080p, you never see 1080P.

p and i stand for progressive and interlaced respectively. The I in HDMI stands for interface. It's standard for an acronym to be capitalised. I would guess the letters at the end of the number are lowercase to distinguish them from the number easier.
