My internet is goddamn slow.

Posted 01-01-2009 at 04:57 PM by mitsur
I'm really fucking sick of waiting 12+ hours to download a gigabyte of data. Downloads are an agony of waiting when you max out at about 50 kb/s of downloading.

Before your questions, I live in a rural community, and my parent's aren't willing to shell out the cash for a better connection, and my laptop is less than ideal, since I got it about 3 years ago or so.

That takes me one hour.

Enjoy your lag, fag.

(The joke here is that my friend who's over now, also has terrible internet, so I'm making fun of him, and he doesn;t even realize it. He is reading this post as I type it.

I live in the city and 50kb/s is typical. But only because I'm too cheap to pay for faster.

When I move out of home I'm going to go for ADSL2.

When I was your age, computers only had a Gigabyte of hard drive space! And if we wanted Internet access we had to run down the the well and carry a bucket of it back home to use; that is if the Net-hole wasn't dry!

Did you have to walk 10 miles to the nearest search engine, too?

GIGABYTE of hard drive space? When I was his age, we had 200-odd megabytes.

But that's the past. Anyway enjoy your lag, I'm surfing by you at 24 Mbps

I was going to reply to this... honestly... but didn't. Now I see that others have approached the same points I was thinking of....

I remember back in the olde days when 5KB/S was good! Jesus Christ man, oh look at me, I only get FIFTY! My first computer only had 80MB of hard drive space, and boy was that sufficient. 28.8k modem and windows 3.1 with AOL 2.5 with 256 color SVGA. YEAH! LOCK AND LOAD!

Of course I can't imagine why anyone would need these super-speeds of 5 megabit *plus* other than online gamers or software pirates who use torrents. I mean, why does anyone *really* need so much speed? Streaming movies? I guess what I'm saying is that I am looking at it in a way which doesn't let me take things for granted, knowing what I *used* to have and leading me to have more true appreciation for the way things, like broadband internet, have improved in speed. It's a luxury purely and only, not a necessity; in sharp contrast to what the marketeers would have us believe.

And now, the greatest quote ever. Because it's so craftfully skilled by one of our sharpest and creative minds:

:
Enjoy your lag, fag.
hehe... how rude.
