I just got fired from the job I hate at the company I love. Haven't decided whether to be sad or happy*.

I was told quite clearly that I should leave early and not go to office meeting (where I was going to say goodbye to people) because it would be awkward to explain why they got rid of me with me there. But I am going to the office drinking+karaoke night tonight. I figure if there's one time in my life when I'm guaranteed to be bought drinks, it's this.


*Two months pay and the chance to tell the boss what I think of him edges me towards happy.

Did you kick your clients in the testicles? A similar matter got me fired from my job at a retirement home.

Needless to say, 80 year old men don't like their testicles being shattered.

If I were you, I would have gotten completely smashed, then gone to the karaoke to tell everyone I got fired and why.

But really, don't make too big a scene. Your boss may help you with a referrel on your resume for when you apply for a new job. If you destroy the sense of guilt he's got for firing you by being a dick, there goes some help.

I got completely smashed at the karaoke and the boss was paying. So win for me!

Thankfully, my reference will be coming from my manager and not the CEO so I was fine to tell him that he wasn't as special as he thinks he is (not in those words). There were a few awkward moments at the karaoke where the only spare seat was next to the boss and it was quite obvious to everyone that I preferred to remain standing rather than sit next to him.

But everyone else was really quite nice about it. I had people I really didn't expect come up and say they'd miss me. Also got to grab Clare on the boobs.
