I'm just starting to get back into Harry Potter

Posted 04-10-2016 at 05:41 PM by Mr. Molluck
I got interested in the series (includes the movies and books) again after finding a video on Youtube of the Ollivander's Wand Shop show in Universal Studios Orlando. Afterwards, I decided to keep searching for similar videos, and all were fantastic due to the intimate nature of the experience. I then remembered that Pottermore (the website for the universe) exists, and so I signed up on there and decided to get sorted into a house (I'M A GRYFFINDOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!). Now I'm reading all the assorted materials on there, and they are all FANTASTIC. So much thought put into the world. Now I really want to get all the books AND the movies and just marathon them all.

Here's a video of the show, which can be experienced both in the Studios and Islands of Adventure parks of the park, as both have Harry Potter sections:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTWYa_2t0Z4

Both locations have different actors, both male and female, playing the wandkeeper per show, and each show lets the chosen visitor use different spells to use in the room, so whatever show you go to in both locations, in terms of actors, spells, and visitor choice, will be random.

They also have the show in Universal Studios Hollywood, if you want to go there instead.

The world of Harry Potter doesn't have much thought put into it really. The whole "Pottermore" thing is shoehorned as fuck. HP is a fun binge watch but that's about it, if you start thinking about any of the plot elements the whole story just falls apart.
If you want genuinely well written and developed worlds, try Dark Souls or Game of Thrones.

I used to love the books as a kid. With the emphasis on the first three. With the exception of the last three.

Don't get me wrong, I don't actually like HP, and I do like GoT, but fuck me, let's not pretend GoT is much more than the often sexual fantasies of a bearded 60 something fat man.

Indeed, Game of Thrones is a soap-opera for males.

One day I’m going to learn how to program and I’ll make a Vlam simulator. It would only need like 5 possible outputs.

Game of Thrones is a great action film for females, I guess.

To be fair, Manco, Vlam speaks English as a second language and his responses are shorter/samey because he finds it hard to express himself with complex sentences. I'm just pointing it out because I came afoul of saying something similar and then when it was explained to me I felt sad.

If I'm sticking up for you, Vlam, I must be getting sick or something.

Yeah but it’s less about him having short responses and more the fact that he keeps harping on about the same subjects in the exact same way all the time. I’ve read the same lines about the same things Vlam dislikes several times over and it’s just boring.

Idk, GoT characters actually have depth and development, as does the world itself. You really can't say the same about HP. The pacing can go a bit shit every now and again but that's really the only complaint I have.
I just don't get why so many people are into a fantasy series which doesn't hold up to any kind of scrutiny or have any depth or subtlety to it at all. I don't get why it's still so popular?
I mean, LotR can't pace for shit and it may be the most boring film series I have ever watched but I can still appreciate why other people find it good. The world, like with GoT or the Souls series has an insane amount of detail and it feels real. Even the Elder Scrolls has depth with the ridiculous amount of lore it has, though I wouldn't say it "feels real".

I realised that while I'm so confused as to why HP is so popular, I totally forgot that the fucking Twilight series has an insane fanbase too, and it's much worse. People are weird.

HP is aimed at a young audience.

The problem with Game of Thrones (at least the TV serie): it has nothing to do with fights and political intrigues but people who keep talking about their feelings (but it's okay to enjoy that).

Manco, "when the sage points at the moon, all that the idiot sees is the finger".

You don't understand. If you think Game of Thrones is awesome, tell me why. It's pointless to say: "Vlam is blablabla".

Ignore FA, she thinks she's smart and that everyone else is dumb.
Vlam, your rhetoric of "it's bad because they keep talking about their feelings" is fucking retarded, and if you really need me to explain why, then it's pointless you weighing in on any kind of discussion about media.

yeah, in between the combat and the sex and the torture and the gruesome executions and the magic and the undead and the treachery and the sadistic politics and the fucking dragons and so on, they talk about their feelings. probably to give the story context otherwise you wouldn't know what the fuck was going on. like every other television series known to man.

lol yes it does. are you just saying this to troll us? because you couldn't be more wrong. i don't love GoT or anything, it's just your opinion is completely misinformed. maybe there aren't enough explosions in it for you.
