I nominate reproducing this thread.

Also, in regards to your music, I haven't heard anything else you've done but this one is a clusterfuck of bad. I'd rather not write a full on critique on a blog of all places, so I'd suggest either pointing me in the direction of a thread or taking this to PMing.

You asked if I think you're improving. I'd say yes. Definitely improving. Is it great? No. Is it adequate? Perhaps. Keep at it though, seriously.

I can't believe I'm asking, but why do you have to remember that date?

See, people? This is what I want! Brutal honesty, thanks SB!

STM, if you really want to know. Here you go.

And yeah, Slog Bait, those threads are pretty funny, but to be honest I expected nothing less from Alcar XD. But unfortunately, I don't think that thread was 'epic' enough to reproduce. We need a thread that has gone on for at least 5 pages to get some good conversation out of it's topic.

So, should I start this 'Thread reproduction initiative'?

Never ask people what they think of your music. Also, never care what people think of your music. Unless you are making it to be a salable product, or writing soundtracks, or some shit like that. But if you are creating music to create music then fuck everyone else. All that matters is that you made it. It doesn't even matter if you think it's good. In fact, it's better if you think it's bad, as you will keep pushing yourself to make more, and better music. But again, don't care what other people think. Don't listen to advice. It's all bullshit.

Well, I do think it's bad, so I suppose you're right, I will keep pushing myself to be better. Thanks.

As for the 'TRI', I am going to start it, it's worth a try, the forums have been so boring lately.

Or were you talking about my 'date'?

It might not be an entirely good idea to rule out other peoples' opinions of your music. While yes, you're doing it for yourself so who cares what other people think, it's not very likely you'll actually "improve" at what you do if you keep it all solely to yourself. When getting other peoples' opinions of your work you can learn something new that you might have wanted to implement into your work before that you couldn't have, or be pushed to do something new that you may enjoy more than what you've previously done.

Though, that varies from person to person. It's all a matter of preference.

I suppose, to be honest I just enjoy making music, even if it is bad, I mean, everybody started out somewhere, right?

Of course. You'll get to the point you want to be one day. The fact that you're aware of the state of your current work means you're bound to get better. Just keep going at it and if you need any help don't be afraid to ask.

A+ thread. Definitely a keeper.

Oddworld Forums has no good threads.

And no, Slog Bait, taking people's advice will not make you a better musician. It will just make your shitty, generic music more palatable to that particular person.

I always tried to be unique, make a mixture of genres that will sound, pretty good, obviously not at the moment.

Oh boo-hoo. If you're hated there must be a reason, and from what you've posted this far i'm guessing the reason is you're a self-pitying, depressed, Geek who gets down because he's not invited to the cool peoples partys. Well, duh. Nobody wants a manic depressant around...infact, if you killed yourself nobody would probably notice or care...either change the way your heading and make goodness from the shitness. Or get a gun and go on a shooting spree before killing yourself...thats the only way people will ever care about you.
Why weren't all the members like this back then?

Again, it varies from person to person, and it's really up to Nep what he does in the end.

When it comes to shit like music, you can either try to develop your work on your own, rely on others' feedback to help you develop your own work, or do some kind of mixture of both. Sometimes people need that little push from others to get to where they want to be.

Sometimes you need to know what other people think of your work to truly enjoy what you make. It's all a matter of preference.

Usually when musicians seek advice for their music, they don't just ask a single person, they'll ask many, many people. They usually ask it because they're unsure of where to go from where they currently are, and are looking for a direction to walk in.

You don't need to follow advice word for word, even if it's from a professional, but it's still a good idea to think about the advice given and see if it might help you towards your goals.

I mean, you're talking about art, and art is a perspective. It's a manifestation of who you are. Actually giving a shit about anyone's ideas as they pertain to your art is literally the death of your art. You are no longer creating something that is genuinely from you. That's how Nickelback was born. But hey, if you want to suck, and have no point of view, but maybe get people to like the awful drek that you made, be my guest, listen to Slog Bait.

Dude, you can take advice from people without it fucking up your work. If you take advice on how to do your art in a way that appeals to individuals, yes your shit it going to end up generic garbage. It's getting advice on how to learn to do things you don't know how to do.

You're saying "Hey, if you listen to advice on anything involving your music at all your shit will never actually be good!" when that's not true at all.

It's more taking advice on how to use the tools you're given to properly portray what you hear or see or feel. You might have this fantastic idea, or the potential for them, and no matter how hard you try you can't figure out how to express it.

That's why you ask other peoples' advice. "Hey, I really want to do this thing, but I can't figure out how to do it." "Sure pal, I'll help, you just do this and this and there you go." And you can experiment with the new knowledge from there and create what you had originally envisioned in its entirety.
