More than an obsession

Today I realized that I have been playing AO and AE continuously for well over half my life. I've replayed them continuously and at this point I know the games so well I could probably replicate them perfectly if I was given the means to.

They never really lost their charm and I am genuinely surprised they managed to keep a hold of me for so many years.

And I get overly excited when I talk about Oddworld to people. I've shown it to countless people and the great news about that is OWI and JAW will have more supporters, but sometimes I sit here and wonder.

Why doesn't it bug people that I'm so obsessed with these games? A lot of the time I speak with other people, when they complain about others they almost always bring up an obsession of the person they're complaining about. They're usually more mainstream things, but then when I turn around and start talking about Oddworld they don't bat an eyelash.

And when I run into other people who knew about Oddworld long before I came along they'll catch some of my references to it and they'll say something along the lines of, "Oh man, that was a good game." but when I start talking about it in depth they just smile and nod because well, obviously they're not as into the games as I am, but they don't seem to mind at all even when I hit critical mass.

If I even mention Homestuck a lot of the times I get shot down immediately or bashed and treat me like I'm the scum of the earth, but I mention Oddworld and people either become interested or don't mind me obsessively talking about it. I'm not even close to being as into Homestuck as I am Oddworld.

It's just... confusing. I don't know.
