Video Problems

For some reason, one of my AVI files I recorded for my Let's Play doesn't want to show the video anymore, It used to work fine but now it doesn't for some odd reason.

I can hear the sound but I can't see anything. I can't open it on Sony Vegas or on any other movie making software - It just says it can't be opened.
Also when I record anything else with the same program, it plays fine. It's just that one file.

Anyone know a way to fix it? I really don't want to re-record it. If anyone wants the file, I could send it them via Email.

Same happens to me sometimes - Except without sound D:
Maybe try converting it to wmv or something?

Something probably messed up during the processing after you stopped recording.

Can you open up the video in another piece of media playing software such as VLC?

I've opened it in other software and its the same problem.

The thing I find strange is originally it work completely fine and now it doesn't. Maybe I deleted a codec by mistake.

Avidemux might be able to help. It seems to open 99% of AVI files

Try VLC. It has the best support for codecs of any software I've used.

I was going to say if the codec was missing, that is usually the answer.

A tip I can recommend is that if you think a video might have gone bad since it isn't opening, try uploading it to youtube (private/unlisted of course).

If the video file still doesn't play or youtube encounters an error then it is the way the video has been rendered. If not, chances are it's that you're missing a codec. Of course, it's pretty rare for that to happen.

YouTube converts to FLV so you wont have to worry about not having a codec for that (usually).

VLC can play anything, missing codecs or corrupted file be damned.

Thanks for you help you lot however VLC doesn't show the video as well. It comes up with this error.

No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "XFR1". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
Looks like I record a whole hour of my Let's play all over again

again, If anyone wants the file, let me know, I can Email it you
