Cyclist, Soup Canner, Puncher of the Deaf

Started a new job at a soup Cannery. 50 hours a week, starting at 7:00AM monday to friday. INCREDIBLY hard work. Like, 2 hours straight of personally scooping several tons of beans with a plastic bucket into a shaking machine.

However, I make 2000$ a month, the work is consistent, and I get lots of free canned products if I'd like. MMM, 'Fresh' canned rice pudding. I'm supposed to be done at 4:30 every day, but typically work much later than that. I'm getting more lean, though. I've never seen my legs look quite so...angular?

As my new best-pal-from-work Dustin told me, a few months here and I'll end up looking like a 'Red Brick Shithouse'. And it shows. I'm going to be a MONSTER come Christmas.

The worst part is the back trouble, though. Once in a while I'll be on the line that labels cans, which means working with a lot of older, shorter women. Which means leaning over a conveyor belt a few inches too short for my arms. Lots of hunching and leaning there, but the work that requires brute strength and quick feet is what I'm really there for. I think I'll be spending at least part of my paycheck getting a bi-weekly massage.

This is just the kind of job to whip me into shape, though. Got to be there early, can't just call in if I don't feel like showing up, have to be there until the job's done, etc...

Anyway, I punched a deaf guy in the face.

By accident.

He's another employee. Been there for ten years and to top it all off he got beaten up on labour day weekend. He had stiches on his brow. I was just leaving the changeroom, getting my water bottle. I opened the door, then tucked my forehead into my shoulder to wipe the sweat off. As I raised my sleeve, he came around the corner and walked right into my half-closed fist.
I felt the stitches againt my knuckle. Yuckers.

Anyway, Claude (as that is his name) was stunned for a second, and I immediately apologized and looked sorry, but he just gave me a cold look and continued on. I do not think he likes me very much.

My days start at 5:50AM, when I wake up, eat breakfast, cook the coffee and read for 10 minutes or so. Then I brush my teeth, MAYBE smoke some pot depending on how I'm feeling and head out. I ride my bike there, takes about 15 minutes. It's the same route as the Tampon factory I used to work at, and it's a very refreshing warm up/cooldown at the start/end of the day.

Perhaps it is the way you describe it, but your life always seems vastly more interesting than mine.

It's the way I describe it. I work at a dingy factory that overworks its employees.

Stick to it bud, but don't punch the deaf, they are nice people too.

Plus, he was only half deaf before you punched him.

This guy is actually kind of a dick. He was NEVER outright friendly or pleasant with me the previous 3 weeks (He'd smile/greet other people, at least, but never ever even make eye contact with me) and whenever I worked with him he'd make a big point of doing my work over in a way that HE liked, and not the way I was shown, which made work a LOT slower. He may not have deserved a punch in the face, but he deserved a slap on the wrist.

Maybe it's just because you're new and being deaf has mead him a little angry, just be nice, be careful, but don't arse lick if that's what it ends up coming down to. I'm surprised he doesn't want to be nice to you when you come off as a pretty good guy, that being said...might be harder now that you tried to deck him.
