Copying is not stealing!!

Posted 11-26-2010 at 06:20 AM by T-nex
Yea... This may be a somewhat pointless blog.

But lately, I've been turning and twisting this issue in my head.
What are people actually 'stealing' when they copy movies or music or games or anything electronical?
I mean... Nothing physical is stolen. It's not like someone actually lost money due to someone copying. They spent money of making the product, yes, but no one took their money.

So... I think I finally put a word onto it. Peopleare stealing culture i guess. It's something more abstract. Copying is abstract. You don't take something from someone else, you actually multiply it. But the thing stolen was unjustly obtained culture. I guess.

I can relate to that a lot more. Someone made a cultural piece. Yeah, it could be shitty, crappy culture... but it's still some form of culture. Once you have seen a movie or listened to a piece of music, you actually registered that info into your brain. It'll stay with you forever, even if you forget it.

So yea. THis isn't meant as a debate or anything, even though I think there will be the obligatory OANST-comments on it.. or not.

Just thought I'd put it out there. So peeps! Don't steal culture, yo!

There's no little girls. The youngest character is your not really sister at 16. The maids are both 17, the unspeakably tragic classmate who turns into a vampire is 17, the vampire hunter is about 60 but her body stopped ageing when the universe decided she was a living contradiction and thus should be truly immortal, and the main female lead as a 700 year old vampire who looks about 20.

Also the main character is 17, his best friend is 17, the crazy serial killing vampire is 17, the mad vampire priest is 600 and the evil super vampire who exists by absorbing living creatures and is made up out of six hundred and sixty six beasts is around 2000.

No little girls.

Sigh. I guess that people in Japan stop being interesting at the point where they stop going to high school. Unless, they turn out to be immortal, at which point they will still keep going to high school, most likely.

The high school isn't even the setting, it's simply an anchor to tie the plot down.

To clarify
  • The maids don't go to high school. One spends all day cleaning the mansion whilst the other spends all day getting raped by a sociopathic vampire and drugging him so she can use him to kill the main cast because she's totally fucked up.
  • The younger sister is 16 because it's plot important that everyone is the age they are, especially the main character, his sister and the sociopathic vampire
  • The immortal vampire hunter goes to the main character's high school because she suspects him of being the sociopathic vampire. She basically brainwashes everyone at the school to implicitly trust her and think she's been there for three years when she really only arrived the day the game begins.
  • The main heroine was born a vampire, vampires who were born vampires stop aging naturally when their DNA code finishes developing and starts to decay, hence she looks like she's in her early twenties.
  • The high school thing is largely used as a comparison against the darker horror themed elements. Most of the game takes place in the mansion of the main character and his sister along with the maids.

Also this isn't even the one I said was so great. That one is science fictiony and covers a large array of philosophical and scientific themes. Also has some of the best plot twists ever.

Note: When I say that Ever17 is the best story I've ever read and that these others are great stories I am referring to the story and the storytelling, not the writing.

The best writing I've ever read is Ursula LeGuin.
