Don't you hate it when people post obnoxious text at the top of their blog and you have to scroll past it every time you want to read what they've posted? Man, I really hate that.

I have been summoned to jury duty Part 3

Yesterday morning I had my first day of Jury Duty. After being shown the metaphorical ropes, we were split into three groups, one told to come back tomorrow and the rest of us assigned one of two trials. Our trial was due to start after lunch, but after lunch break we were told the Judge had some legal issues to sort out and we would have to wait a little longer. A couple of hours after that, we were sent home.

This morning I returned and we were again told to wait a little longer. Then, a bit after midday, we were told that the defendant had changed their plea to 'guilty' and the trial was therefore cancelled. So we got sent home and told to phone in after 'closing time' to find out if we would be required tomorrow for a different trial.

So two days of my suspected 10 day jury duty are over and so far I haven't seen so much as the door to a courtroom. I have read nearly the entirety of 'The Shadow of the Wind', however ('s a great novel; buy it!!!)

At this rate, I won't get the chance to use any of those wonderful 'get out of jury duty' excuses we worked so hard on.

"I need to get out on jury duty."

I've never used that line in years.

I has breaking news!

I just rang the court's answering machine to find out what time they wanted me to go in tomorrow, and it turns out I and apparently my entire group have been released from Jury Service; they no longer want me.

I actually find myself slightly disappointed, after all the fuss.

I thought you guys still used the guillotine. Oh wait, that was the french.

They seriously called you up there just so they could send you back? I would be pretty P.O. if that happened to me. Just seems like a waist of time.

Well they didn't deliberately call me up to send me home. It just turned out that way. Clearly there are not enough criminals in my area.

yeah! call the first person to walk in the courtroom "guilty", which would probably be the caretaker.

'Shadow of the Wind' is great; I first bought it a few years ago, then leant it to a friend at uni and never got it back off of him. So my sister recently leant me her copy. It is very sad but as you say, it's very cleverly written. 'Wish I could write like that

Don't encourage him. He already grabs his pitchfork whenever the doorbell rings.
