Need to buy a car

Posted 04-07-2010 at 04:33 AM by Taco
Yes it's time to buy my first car and I need advice from fellow australians who drive. I'm willing to spend around $6000-$7000 on a second-hand of course. I found some really nice BMW series 3/5 cars from '85-'88. But I don't know how economical they are and where I can find this piece of infomration. I mean, I've been driving a Getz for a very long time. The point is, I wanna get a decent economical sedan sort of thing. Any suggestions/halp?

BMW? Really? Do you have any idea how expensive parts will be for this thing if it breaks down?

You need to avoid luxury vehicles when you buy your first car. Get something dependable. Not something nice.

My first car was a 1992 toyota camry. I sold it, but the family I sold it to says it still runs great. That thing was a fucking tank. has 250k miles on it now, and I believe the odometer has been reset. Anyway, get a fucking 1992 toyota camry. And paint it blue, like mine was.

Currently rolling in a 1991 Isuzu Trooper. Its red and is better than a Camry.

Tips:
  1. Don't buy a Daihatsu
  2. Or a Daewoo
  3. Buy something recent

Buy an ex-display model car. They tend to be in good nick.

Don't get a 1990 Holden Barina then fail to keep up with the maintenance unless you want to be in a world of troubles.

Oh, and don't buy a 2010 Holden Outaunya then fail to keep up with the maintenence unless you want to trade it in and let the next schnook who gets your old car have to deal with the neglect you dispensed; made better by the new-car-smell air freshener hanging from the rear view.

@Oanst- yeah that's one of the main problems, I'll probably end up getting something in the 90's. Just not a commodore

As your first car, depending on your driving experience I'd get something cheap that won't matter if you accidently drive it into a lampost or something.

Most car models can be found on WhatGreenCar.com if you're interested in fuel economy.

I've got a Citroen C1. It's small, but it does the job. Cheap too.
