FECKING ARSE

Posted 01-31-2010 at 06:25 AM by MeechMunchie
My C: Drive has physically broken. The reader has snapped, gouging out a scratch right across the disc. I've lost everything. Everything.

Bummer.

Hopefully you backed up all your porn.

Naw im kidding. Losing files sucks. But you really should start backing files up. External harddisks are getting really cheap, and buying a decent one shouldn't be a problem. hopefully.

Sorry for your loss. x_x

oh i know how that bastard feels. i have somehow physically 'blown up' 2 computers so far, and one was when i was trying to install a floppy drive. dunno how the fuck i did it.

so that was 2 instances where i lost all my pictures and written work. i had to retype up a piece of work about 113 pages long on a laptop because the file had gone, obviously, and all i had left of it was the printed version i had made. fucking lucky, i tell you.

losing pictures of bygone times is shit. sorry, mate.

Whenever I loose a bunch of files, I always get sad, because it's like a part of my history

Been there, my friend. Some of the personal stuff I've lost is heartbreaking, some of the academic stuff I've lost is ballbusting. But things could be worse. Backup externally.

I have an external backup system, RAID 5, 750GB. Anything important like pictures or text files or whatever goes on there.

Nothing short of a fire and a nazi bombing can destroy that data!

Buy 3 of the same hdd's and use usb/esata. That way each month or week you can totally clone your main hdd on to backip1 and then backup2 the week after. (You need two because if your drive is about to esplode and you are half way through cloning then they're both gonna be toasted)

How do you know that the "reader" has snapped? Did you open it up?

There are services that can get most of the data off the drive. They're bloody expensive though.

Whenever I lose anything at all, down to a paperclip, I usually drop whatever I'm doing just to find it. I can scarecly imagine how on earth I could live with my C: drive being destroyed.

Maybe there's a job for blowing up computers MA? That's be fun too.
