I'VE DONE IT.

Posted 09-28-2009 at 08:08 PM by Pilot
I managed to grab my cell phone and snap a picture of this at the last moment, while trying to maintain 70mph, cradle a loaded hotdog in my lap, and hang onto a large 42oz sippy cup in the other hand.

COuld have snapped it a moment sooner, but considering all things, came out pretty good, no?

Oh yeah, this car has no seat belts.

What to do, what to do. Daft Punk reference or Futurama reference?

Hmm. The speedometer only goes up to 110 and not 110,000.

When that baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're going to see some serious stuff.

Is that from Top Gear?

I know nothing of Top Gear, but figured I'd guess.

I've also drawn a schematic that will assist you in rebuilding the Time Circuit using components available in 1955.

What did you use to solve the flux capacitor's temporal stabilising issue?

fucking hell, the role of Pilot creating a car able to travel through time fits pretty well.

then again God help us if he does somehow get to the future or past.

Time machines can only travel back to the day they were rendered active, if memory serves.

Every car I own/have owned is a time machine

Regrettably, the photo album is incomplete.

I'm confused. Why da hell are some of the numbers printed backwards. I lsuppose it's so you can make them out easier, but it looks stupid.

And for all that you know he got drunk and smashed up his car with his beer keg. And when he came to the next day, he found his odometer all twisted up.

Either that of he pulled that shit off in the desert where dere's no coppers.

So you coud understand them faster. Though, who would be driving at such speeds in those times?

This car's a '54, but starting in '53 with Chevrolet when you ordered a car with PowerGlide (a 2 speed automatic transmission which is what mine is) you also got the lower-geared rear end which would enable the car to run 70 miles an hour without undue stress.... but prior to this all the rear ends in cars were generally geared very high for 'pep' but your speed would top out at about 55mph... and this was with the throttle wide open.

This was just fine for the early half of the century when multilane expressways didn't exist, but with those came the need for cars that could go MUCH faster, and interestingly, at this time starting in about 1955 they started putting those lovable tailfins on cars, the technical name for which was 'directional stabilizers'.... they claimed that these kept the car stable and going straight at 'modern highway speeds.' (I mean, forget about cross winds, someone really dropped the ball there)

PAH. Nonetheless an interesting artifact from this time period.
