More properly, the event was the cease fire itself.

You will be happy to know that Hondurus and El Salvador resolved their differences and signed a peace treaty shortly afterwards, on 30 October 1980. The issues were born of a stark population density contrast and led to land disputes and mass immigration. 374.5 square kilometres of land were awarded to Hondurus, which also bore the main burden of 4000 dead soldiers. As of 2006, demarcation was still not completed, so well done there.

A civil war in El Salvador shortly followed, largely due to nothing actually having been resolved. One small step for Central Americans.
