I am an uncle

It's a girl. We weren't expecting that. (They didn't look at the ultrasound, but all genetic, biological and psychic evidence pointed to a boy).

So, if anyone has any advice for unclehood in general and nieces in particular, I'll be glad to hear it.

And BM, be sure I'll remember your birthday forever.

Become rich and open a secret bank account to pay for the child's college tuition (unless that's free in Aussieland) in case she runs into money troubles.

I just came back from the hospital and had a cuddle with the very cute blob that is my niece. Also took advantage of my uncle prerogative by gifting her first stuffed toy.

Oh, and before anyone asks, she's not going to have a name for another week yet.

I know nothing about neices, but I can advise that you don't let them anywhere near the animated Rudolph film. They drive you 'round the fucking bend with that at Christmas. Every day for the rest of the month.

With some luck, that's just my nephew. You neice my be much more pleasant and less aggravating.

Oh, I'm totally with you on that one OANST. I had to buy a present for a 1 year old female cousin a few months ago and the options were dire. I ended up going with Play-Do.
