Happy Abe's Oddysee Remake (3D)

Hi

This is my version of Abe's Oddysee. I plan to do the whole game and would like feedback on the progress so far from oddworld fans. Take a look at my link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2HbsI0NQRs

Thanks

Nowtun

hey great

I would still add a few more details in the coloration and maybe let some of the trees extend towards the foreground, because if it's already in 3D it would look much nicer if there was more "depth" in it. they always emphasized the depth in AO and AE to make it look more 3D-ish.
but hey it still looks really nice

how long did it take you to create all this?

That is fantastic!

Much like what scipionyx mentioned, it would add greater depth and detail if some of the background extended into the foreground.

It might also look sharper if some of the textures were more defined (then again, it could just be apart of what makes the 'tone' of Paramonia, it's been a while since I've played.)

Wonderfully done, and I can't wait to see more!

It's looking really nice. I have been thinking about creating paramonia in 3D, but i was worried about creating trees rocks etc. Your rocks and trees looks just average. Good rocks should have good diffuse and normalmap texture (what means you should create good highpoly model in Zbrush or Mudbox. Of course if game engine supports normal maps).

Also i must mention that fog is too dense, but i guess that present appearance is temporary and be fixed when background elements will be placed.

I'm interested how paramonia will look when finished

Good luck

I do hope you've taken into account you need to model all the characters, and all the backgrounds, and the explosions, and all the other things like levers. And animate them all. And of course make sure the game engine can do what you're looking for.

Hey thanks for the comment.

This is path 1 of Paramonia so I am working on the other 4 paths at the moment. This path took a month in total to get the layout and composition as close to the original Oddworld as possible. I have created all of this on Lightwave, including the textures because I dont have a texturing programme.

Cheers

You can use gimp, download is free. Some basic source textures you can get on cgtextures.com.

Normal map and AO pass you can get by creating High poly versions of models, and then baking hp information on low poly model.

And btw. Try using "Edit" option. It's better than creating many posts one under another

thanks :-)

Im afraid Scrabania will be last, Rupture Farms is my main focus right now, I only made a bit of Paramonia as a first test to see polygon count and fog and ambients and so on. But as Scrabania is such a wide open place with no real vanishing points I want to leave there for last so I can get the distant background right (you will be able to see Paramonia and Rupture Farms from Scrabania and vice versa for the others, so im making it all conected and an open world map

the problem with Paramonia is that the poly count can soon get out of hand especialy with all the trees and the fact that you can see the temple from anywhere in the level in 3D, not the same in 2D. and all the platforms and so on

i always wondered why not everyone is working together... i mean all those who try to do their own remake of this game...
if they would work together they would be a lot quicker and there wouldn#t be so much work for just a single one... and the quality would perhaps also be better if more people worked together... and i also wondered why so many people try to make a remake and not their own fangame with new levels and environments... and perhaps even new characters

we have some story writers here, and artists, so developing a new story with new characters and concept art etc... is not impossible

of course a big project also takes a lot of time...

by the way wasn't there that other forum which is just for fangames or something ? ^^

anyway I think both - a remake or a new game - is very cool , i'm just wondering why things are like this xD

Well... I personally have nothing aganist cooperation with other people, but i have one requirement: engine of that game should be Unreal Engine (I have pretty high knowledge on this engine and almost none, when it comes to other ones).

And actually i don't know if there are many repeating thing beetween all 3 Oddworld 3D projects

So if Nowtun used Unreal engine, are you saying you would work with him to create a 3D oddworld?

@Luskan

Yup. If level of his models won't be too low. But when i see his work, i think that risk is really low . Ofcourse his models probably would need some refining (i used right word?) such as adding details, smoothing rock models, remading UVs (if neccesary) and creating highpoly models, but it's no problem for me
