Fable 3 was a great leap forward for story and characters, and art. Gameplay-wise it stumbled a bit, you still can't play as a pure wizard satisfyingly (though I like the weapons anyway) and the player costume customisation compared to Fable 2 dropped horribly. The weapon evolution feature is not really up to scratch (and too random to grow your own without infinite resetting), and it's doubly bogus that most of the interesting blades were parcelled off to release day DLC weapons only, removing them from the evolution pool entirely. The new augment system is fun (and annoying), but its crap that you can't customise them or put them on your own, and that the legendary weapons are all made like the hero weapons. I was expecting the ability to purchase basic weapons in shops and allow my heroic power to mutate them according to multiple morph channels. Alas.
Aurora was fucking awesome though. A few clear lines of inspiration but overall an entirely original culture, and the few wild lands over there are great fun, especially the music, the desert and the non-old kingdom ruins. Good to see those minion bastards from Fable 1 make a return. I would like to see a spinoff set entirely in Aurora, playing as an Auroran hero long before the Crawler.
The next game needs to answer a few questions, about the Old Kingdom, about Jack and the rest of his Court, the Void, Reaver, the Shadow Court and the Crawler. Jack, Crawler and the Shadows Court all seem like real Big Bads behind all of Albion's Ills, so I want to know what relationship they have/had with each other, whether they all originated in the Void and what other horrors may reside there.
And how many games will it be until we're wearing a trench coat and bowler hat, clearing hobbes out of air-raid shelters with fireballs, the bayonet of an M1 and an Enfield revolver?
