Oddworld Models

I was thinking, what if I made some 3d models in 3ds max? We could use them for alot of purposes really if I made them exact enough to get by. Maybe some oddworld fan games, or some great 3d artwork.

I just started modeling a sligs face, let me know if im on the right track or not.

Here's a basic render. I'll smooth over and add textures later.

I use 3DS Max.

This model will be quite good to use in games. Have you made some animations for it? In the first model you used NURBS, yes?

Hmm, I dont know what the term NURBS actually means, but what I did was place a few primitive objects and began bending them and scaling them to make it look somewhat like the basic design of a sligs' head.

What id love to use it for is custom desktop wallpapers, maybe avatars for these forums, signatures for the forums, models for the basis of a good 3D game, 3D movies for in or out of a game. I think in the end, we could have a fun time with these.

I advise you try NURBS, it's great for modelling organic forms but gets time to get accustomed to using it. With nurbs you can model smooth shapes, nurbs primitives are situated in the geometry section of toolbar, or you may convert any of your entities to NURBS. Besides what version of MAX do you have? That would be really great if you make some basic animations for this slig.
Oh, may I post some of my renders here?

umm yeah I guess that would be good.

I can just smooth it over with a modifier.

I use 3DS MAX 2009. I am extremely amateur, and by extremely I mean I just started a week ago, lol.

I got the software from the company I work at, since im now onboard with the marketing portion, I am trying to recreate models of non-existing product. I'm learning, im sure it'll be a long journey.

Ya know, it would be a cool render if you put that level with a skinned abe model. Would look like a new better graphics oddworld game, lol.

Then I recommend you to check out the tutorials I quote in my thread:

They were very useful for me.

Yeah, but Edit Poly mode is great too. It's a simple way to do models, by "take one poly and extrude it"

Here's just an update. I've been working on it in my free time, thought maybe u guys wanna check how my model is coming along.

If you guys wanna download the .max file and work on it yourselves, you may. In the end I hope to get a decent looking slig .max model for everyone to use.

I like the way it lookes so far. Very good.

BTW like the Abe animation. ^^ Though I don't
remember him doing that in the games.

I just modeled the lower half of the slig. It's not in great detail, I was working on it during lunch.
