Lorne Lanning Interview Part 8: The Last Bit

It's been fun spreading these parts of the interview over a month and a half but all good things must come to an end. Here is the last part, which includes a random bunch of questions from a-member-who-shall-remain-nameless as well as the odd segue in to other stuff. Also, I finally get to have one of my theories turn out to be correct, which is a bonus.

I just want to express again how amazing the experience was of meeting Lorne and seeing the passion he has for his creations. He truly is an inspiring guy. I left the interview with a drive to push myself and make something bigger of my life that is still with me, and that is a wonderful thing to have. I also want to thank all of you for being patient through my various procrastinations and for giving this piece a wonderful audience. And, most of all, I want to thank Max for putting in his time marking this up and putting it on TOL.

Thankyou Nate, for interviewing him, that's a great thing you've done for us. And thanks to you Max, for publishing it all on TOL.

I would literally piss myself if they did pick Disney, but it seems Lorne shares the same hatred for them as many others do. See, this is one of the reasons I'd like to meet him.

Thanks again, loved every bit!

It was an amazing interview, although the line about the Quintology ending in tragedy really has me worried...

I have bets on all of the heroes of the Quintology becoming sacrifices for the greater good.

And thanks a lot for the whole interview Nate, truly inspiring insight about the Oddworld mythos and gave me a good nights worth of analysing after I got back from Spain, I'm slightly disappointed that it wasn't longer but I feel he's given us more than enough hints to keep going until the release of CS and beyond.

Extra hugs and kisses to Max for hosting it xxx.

Nate, I can't thank you enough for posting this interview...I'm glad beyond words to hear from Lorne Lanning and confirming my hope that he still has so much passion for his creations.
I'm not good with words at all : |
Still, thank you again

That was pretty cool. But you forgot to ask about the intricacies of Gabbit reproduction, the conservation of mass (and skeletal integrity) during Shrykull transformations and of course, how a terrestrial planet of that size can conform to Earth-normal gravity and maintain rotational stability under the tidal effect of so many moons.

These are important questions.

Hey Nate. I've been reading these interviews ever since you first started posting them and it's been so great to hear all these small (and huge) undiscovered tidbits about the Oddworld universe and mythos.
I've never gotten around to register here until now and decided to do so just so I could thank you for doing this for us and of course, Mr. Lanning himself for taking his time to answer all of the questions.

Hats off to OWI for caring so much about their audience and here's hoping there'll be many more future conversations between fans and artists to come.

thank you Nate the whole interview was really great ^^
There should be more interviews like that
It's cool to hear that it would end in a tragedy, I love tragedies, and I'm sure OWI would make it unforgettable!

jeez, I just think that a disney like happy ending wouldn't fit to Oddworld, - It can't be a good ending for everybody.
you forget an happy ending easily but you don't forget a tragic ending cuz then you start thinking about it...

Wow, great interview. It's a shame it's finished; it doesn't seem like 8 weeks ago I started reading. Thanks a lot. And about the Quintology ending badly, well I could never imagine a nice happy ending. Then again I hope it isn't to bad, like Oddworld blows up or something.

I think he meant it was a terrible ending for the well-intentioned natives, and a good one for the wankers. But I could be wrong.

Thanks once again for this interview, it was extremely interesting!

Although I didn't get the bit with the "Oddworld theme". Which one is that, the one in the intros of AO/AE/MO?

The one from the intros of AO/AE. It also appeared in more fleshed-out renditions in early MO gameplay visualization vids (‘Large Scrab Herd’, ‘Small Scrab Herd’, and ‘Native Workers and Hut’), and—the most cinematic form of all—throughout the first episode of G4’s Icons.

I suspect that he means that things will be bad for everyone. In my imagination, that means that the industrial economy and society will be destroyed but there will be anarchy in its place, rather than happiness for the natives.

I missed the thread for the last one, so no doubt everyone has already decided to buy at least 3 copies of both AO and AE on Steam, yes? Omg, I can't belive he was so happy just to announce that so casually, practically as a passing referance. It's somthing that would give Joystiq/Kotaku/1up staff a field day.

Anyway, just thanks so much for the interview, it's the most exciting thing that has happened in Oddworld since SW, no doubt.
