This is another religion mixed with politics thing. Catholics as usual seem to have a problem with something which the rest of the entire human race thinks is perfectly reasonable because Catholics (on the whole) are stupid prats. Just because they aren't the ones in the situation where they want to die...
I wish catholics/The Pope couldn't have this stupid influence on our laws, because no one I know seems to agree with it. Practically every law people on the whole disagree with is supported by Catholics.
Euthanasia is mainly the cases where the person wanting to commit suicide is physically incapable of doing so. Otherwise you could easily just go commit suicide...well, not that easily, but you get my drift.
It seems rather sad in our, advanced apparently understanding society that a judge is required to decide whether someone should be allowed to die, and then be capable of saying no. If anything is the oh-so-bad "playing God", that is, not cloning or anything. They're dictating someone's life and their choices in it. Why do Catholics think that's a good thing? Particularly when reasons for disagreeing with something like this are completely bent (Euthanasia is disagreed with because they think that only God should make the choice of whether someone lives or dies. Just because other people help with it, it doesn't mean God isn't involved, is it? It's the same principle as the whole "Guy drowns and God says he sent two boats and a helicopter" thing, which makes perfect sense, and then for some reason it doesn't seem to apply here).
Yet another thing to add to the ever-increasing list of humanity's failures.
This should be added to that "Hidden oppressions in our daily life" thread. It will probably be part of that list, as will Catholicism, or maybe even all religion. As science discovers more, maybe in the future it'll all be disproven and eventually die out.
