I'll set the edit button to a week. I believe that's enough time. At least a week is a safe bet that anyone coming back to delete content won't be deleting too much.

I think that's rather fair.

You have to be a mod to delete posts. I'm glad members can't delete posts because otherwise we'd have huge blips in the threads.

And yeah, 1 week's alot better than an hour.

There is a very real reason to go back and edit a post, and that's if you have to change a URL. I do it relatively often: I'm just lucky I'm a mod and can do that, in GD at least.

Ironically, it's the artists who host their works off the site who are probably going to come across this most often. I mean, I imagine so, I couldn't begin guessing at the statistics, but it's probably more common than people going back to sabbotage their old posts just to make others look bad.

In reality, of course, it would only make them look bad.

Just today, I have found that I can't edit my posts, nor make a reply. I can't quote either as well. This bugs me if I want to preview my posts.

I Have unlimited edit for some reason, i just edited a post from yesterday and the edit button was there for a post i did about a week ago...

I've taken the lable "art nazi" because I believe in rights of an artist, but no one is taking your art away from you... unless the images are in OWF's database. You can delete the images on whatever file-host you have them in to stop them being viewed... although I do see why at least editing posts back to remove information like descriptions would be wanted.

Alcar, if someone actualy wants to remove their opinions and workings from a public forum they should be allowed. Otherwise, you're essentialy taking liberties with their works. If Dipstikk wants the art/descriptions removed, you should really oblige... even if it's editing each post down to "-"

Editing the posts is one thing, but deleting 40 threads is another.

I got bollocked for deleting 3 threads when I was a mod, why should Dipstikk be allowed to delete 40? It would bugger up the whole system and then [like I just said] make other feel like they'd been picked on unfairly.

Dipstikk can change the URLs of his art. And he did legally sign a contract to the OWF. So IMO it's his own fault.

No one would destroy his threads and if anyone did they'd get in trouble with the staff.

Rexy's pretty much spot on I'm afraid. And Dippy's got the wrong idea about us, we wouldn't take his art to humiliate him privately and we hold no grudges against him, Alcar is just protecting something he's worked hard on for several years.

If Dipstikk had asked Alcar fairly, instead of going behind his back, I'm sure Alcar would've been much more considerate.

^ I can see it being against the rules, but against the Law?

OKay, I can see a problem with the rules, since they don't cover creative works... and I'm actualy going to recommend an ammendment. We get fan-art/fic and other works, they deserve to be protected.

I fully understand that a whole bunch of topic going missing is going to worry some people, although if they're old/closed/stale topics it shouldn't matter if they vanish/go to Necrum.

IMO... An artist should be able to remove any piece that is no longer desired to be on display. While changing the URL is one option, there are a lot of cases where this won't work without massive re-coding of websites and other forum posts.

I discovered for some reason or another that when use the
most complex typing editor here it will allow you to post
but not to edit. As for quoting it just tells me to add another character of some sort to my response. Therefore I switched back to the crude,
simple text box and suddenly a relief, I could edit and quote again.

But before Alcar's new setting, there was no law against editing one's own posts.

I understand Alcar is trying to protect the Forums, but for all the hard work he's invested, he's still not responsible for what we say and the art we post. Except when we try to take it back. Legality aside, that doesn't rest easy with me.

Preserving the Forums' history is one thing. Adding another oppressive retaliation to it is, well, sad.

This also partialy my bad, since it never occured to me to just remove the image links instead of deleting the entire thread.

Another thing that comes to mind is this: As a forum admin you're either responsible or not responsible for what members post. On most forums you often see in the rules: Blabla, or any of it's staff members, are not responsible for the content of this forum. Ect. Ect.
When you take away the option for members to edit their stuff, you make yourself responsible for every single post on the forum, since people can't edit it anymore. I mean, I can't be responsible for my post if I happen to make a mistake or whatever.

Adder: New rules are in the making, which will also cover art and writing.

Could you possibly leave the time limit only on Fan Corner and NOA&L, Peter? From what I understood, it's the main concern, so I think it'd be a fair compromise. I can't imagine anyone going on a rampage and deleting their posts in OT.

Bah, I don't like this. I type really fast so I make quite a bit of mistakes (as many of you on aim know by now). I check for mistakes before I post, but there are always a few typos I didn't take into account for. Plus, I may want to add a little extra beef to my post as well.
