Not content with ruining television and radio, the FCC trys to ruin live sports.

The FCC has recently announced that it will consider cursing during live broadcasts of sporting events fineworthy. At a college basketball game if a lame foul is called and a fan screams "Hey asshole, that wasn't a block, that was a charge!" will cost the broadcaster $325,000. Does anybody think that is a wee bit excessive? With a word like ass or shit or **** that is nearly $100,000 a letter. Are you kidding me? The most offensive word in the world, a word that would make the sky darken and the moon turn red as blood, that word ain't even worth a $100,000 a letter. I propose this to keep the FCC under control: The 25 percent rule.
If 25 percent of the viewership, not people told by some political group to complain to the FCC, but 25 percent of the viewership complains, then it is offensive and can be fined. No more can a small vocal minority of people with sticks lodged up their asses ruin entertainment for the minority.

I hate this f*cking (<<< talk about ironic) deal in America that everything needs to be cencored! I used to watch the first season of Hells Kitchen, with Gordon Ramsey cursing the shit out of everyone! I LOVED that. The cursing were the best parts and we had the uncencored version!
Now there's a season 2, but their not airing it over here so I'm downloading the episodes. But they have beeped out all the best bits!
Grow some balls America!

I think it's unfair because the broadcaster can't control what comes out of a fan's mouth.

What are they trying to do though? I mean, why do they want to block it out? What's going to happen if they don't? ...worst case scenario?

American television needs more shots of Janet Jackson's breasts. They'd be a highlight of any show.

What was the thread about again? Sports? Urgh...

Fun thing to do; see an american celebrity go on an australian chat show and realise they can say anything at all they like after 9:30 at night.

Same here. We have this show around here that has American celebs from time to time. And as soon as they realize they can curse without being sued, they go wild .

Yup. The number of American celebs who accidentally swear on British chat shows always go through 4 stages in quick succession:

Stage 1: Utter panic. The guest/victim realises that they said a forbidden word, and fear the public will boycott their work.

Stage 2: Apologising. The guest then apologises vehemently in the hope that they will be welcome back on the network in the future, and for the inevitable fine they believe they have just cost them.

Stage 3: Confusion. The celeb finds that the audience is laughing and the host is explaining that it is not a problem. The guest may well not understand the first time around; what is this crazy laid-back custom?

Stage 4: Relief. It hits home. They have caused no trouble at all, and visibly relax.

Stage 5: Freedom! They discover that they have entered a world where free speech might actually exist. After the show they will inevitably return back to the USA, not always sure why.

Optional: Stage 6. Back in the US, the celeb is laid back and has forgotten the rules. One careless four-letter word later, and BAM! They're out on their ear. Oops.

So you're saying if people cannot swear at sports matches, it ruins the game entirely?

****ing pfft. If the broadcasters don't want swearing spectators, don't put any focus on them, Christ.

Go to Japan, it's already happened .

Nothing seems to be censored over here, except the word motherf*cker. Even still, I was surprised when I heard it had been bleeped on a DVD of Dirty Sanchez (not porn, look it up).
Of course there's also that Australia ad where they tried to censor 'bloody', which I still don't get.

The Film Ratings Board here apparently has to watch all porn films before they can be released. I heard a few years back that a film was banned because it showed a scene where two women sneaked (snuck?) into a guy's room and stole his underwear. Apparently that could have a bad influence on Australian adults.

This was actually the first porn film with weightless-sex. They did the same technique as Apollo 13 where they went up in a plane then free-falled (free-fell?) for 30 seconds to get apparent weightlessness.

Note: I have no idea what happened to my past-tensing ability today. I apologise.

I'm not saying that a curseless game is a worthless one. What I am trying to say is that if this happens tape delays might go into effect because people don't like having to take 3 million dollars in fines every day in the playoffs. Remember the tape delayed Olympics and how shitty they were?
Edit: I was watching some porno given to me by some Koreans(don't ask) and the dick was censored in a pulsating Technicolor. The thing was freaky yet oddly arousing;the love child of John Holmes and lava lamp.

I hope that they don't fine the crowd. Everyone will be broke after just a few minutes.

But really I don't know what the problem is. Everything involving language is picked up in Schools and Homes. When I was at school I thought that the word "Bum" was a swear word so I wouldn't say it. But a few years ago when the 6 year old kid next door was telling his mother to "F**k Off" then I knew that Censorship is useless. Why do you think that "Shit" is just another word now? Because Censorship has failed us. I think that Mommy and Daddy just want something to blame other than themselves for their child's bad behavior.

Okay, here's where the limits to free speech kick in.

I can understand people getting into trouble for broadcasting swears. "Kids shouldn't be hearing them", even though they all know them all already and it's not really going to get worse. Still, they're designed the same way "coon" was designed; they're only there to be offensive.

In the USA, censorship is a lot worse for one big reason: You don't have a watershed.
Over here, if it's after 9pm, a lot of words are allowed through. If it's after 11, almost everything goes... although you can't call someone a c**t at any time.
We don't censor "God damn", or "ass", "shit", "Jesus!"... I think "asshole" gets beeped {at least the "hole" part}.

I can't really stand up and say "I think we shouldn't censor anything". The idea of implementing censorship against live games is just trying to have live games under the same rules as other broadcasts... although it's tricky to do. Heck, even putting in a 30 second "we can mute the sound if we need to" delay would probably be enough... although the sound-outs {alla Big Brother UK} do get annoying if everyone keeps the swears flying out.

The lack of a watershed or time exemption was really pissing me off today when I was watching Pulp Fiction. Hmm, R rated movie on AMc being shown at 12 Central and you can't say nigger? Also, they cut the gimp. What was that all about? AMC, you'd better bring out the gimp next time!

Yeah, because who doesn't know that the finger is being given? And its not the words or gestures, its the intent that makes something vulgar to me. My opinion is after 10:30 eastern everything is fair game.
