Abe's Exoddus error

Can someone tell me either how to get past this, or if it's happened to them:

I was playing the second disc of Exoddus on the Playstation, where you have to possess a Glukkon and use sligs to help you get to the Security Phone at the end.
Well, I'd nearly finished that part and I was just up to the Security Phone bit, when the game just froze; and colourful dots started popping up everywhere.
Basically, it looked like the screen was a puzzle, and someone was rearranging the pieces.

I treat the boxes and the discs of my Abe games as if they were worth $1000, and last time I checked, there were no visible scratches on either of the discs.
At the moment, I'm too afraid to do anything drastic to the game, like having to restart it, because I haven't memory card saved in a while..

Has this ever happened to anyone in this particular scene?

Perhaps it's the Playstation. If you say there aren't any scratches on the disc then the console may be too old.

Woops, I forgot to mention that I was playing it on my PS2.
And the funny thing is, to my recollection, it's never happened on the PS1 console..

I just discovered that it doesn't just happen in that part particular of the game, but it happens about 10 minutes after I leave the game running without pausing.
I left the PS on for about 2 hours without being in the house, then when I turned on the TV again, I could still hear the music, sound effects and characters talking, it just looked like an extremely bright, colourful bomb had hit it..

So this has never happened to anyone else? Hmm, maybe I should just stick to playing it on the PS1 if that's going to happen..

It rings a bell. I think it may have happened with my PlayStation copy of the game in the distant past, but I’ve only ever played it on the original PS. What I would suggest is that you turn off electronics like games consoles if you’re going to be out of the house for several hours. Also, get into the habit of pausing the game. Abe may be safe where you’ve left him, but the unpaused game is still having to keep track of all the nearby characters and objects.

I was playing AE and when I was in the Brewery I possessed the Brewmaster and two screens "melted" themselves. I switch off the consolle, I cleaned the CD and I restart palying. It was a reading errore of the consolle, because then I came back in the Brewery and the screens were normal.

I'm glad I'm not alone here.

But when you cleaned the disc, did you put it back in the same console?

It must just be my PS2 console; I've had it ever since the PS2 came out, and there is seriously something wrong with it.
I own two Playstation 2s, and the one I played it on doesn't let me watch burnt DVDs, it won't read The Simpsons - Season 6, Disc 4 - when there's clearly nothing wrong with the disc, and now, my favourite game is stuffing up.

I never thought I'd say this, but maybe I should use the PS1 instead!
Or of course, my other PS2..

Thanks.

I guess the reason it didn't work on the PS2 is because it is not a PS2 game..and I think the PS2 must use some sort of emulator (that's obviously stuffed up in my console).
I just put the game into the PS1, and it actually works a bit better; plus it isn't making any "weird" noises.

Thanks for the help!

Also using PS1 games on PS2 you can damage the Meory Card. I was playing AO on PS2 and I was saving the game. But I cud not save because the Memory was ruined. And before saving the Memory worked very well!

I used to play Tony Hawks: Underground on PS2, but then the game must of been scratched (this was back when I was completely careless towards these games) and I tried to save it, but it just froze; for about half a day..

So, I decided I had to restart the Playstation. As the game loaded, it froze again, but this time, I didn't touch or do anything. It had recognised my memory card in the console and just would not operate, because forcing a dangerous restart like that must of given it an error.

But then I decided to explore the memory card, and delete all Tony Hawks game saves. I got back into the game, and it worked fine.

Maybe something fixable like that happened with your memory card?

No, I think my Memory Card has been damaged by the console. I explored it and I didn't find any file: all have been deleted. I lost all the files.
I don't know what was the problem. I'm not expert. The Memory was old, perhaps it cud not support all the files.... but I don't know the causes.

Hmm...I've had my PS2 for a while now, and I've had similar problems. Many of my PS1 games (including AO!) don't work on it, and it doesn't play some DVDs. It also has corrupted save files.

So don't use your PS2 for PS1 games. I do it and I haven't problems.

You need to get a new PS2 if it kills your PS1 mem cards, that shouldn't happen and has never happend to me. However there are some problems with the PS2 running a few PS1 games, e.g the very end of metal gear solid just freezes, but I've never had any problems playing AE on my ps2 (I have one of the very first releases of the console though, the newer slim ones dont play a few ps1 games that the old one used to or, or even some ps2 games for that matter :s )

Playing on a PS2 also makes my copy of Abes exodus go completely insane. Its best to play on a PS1 (Like i do), there is no problems then, well, not any im aware of.

It depends also by the conditions of the CD. A broken CD can give you problems like slowness or strange shots of the game.

Rupture farms, sometimes in the game do you see like, a big chunk of colour, random colours (blue, red, yellow, etc mixed)? If you do, your CD may be damaged and that may be the problem.

Was it a ps2 memory card?

And if it as do you own JakX combat racing?
(You must have gotten it when it jus came out for this to happen)

Cuz then when it saved (first came out) it would delete all of yer memory on the card you had in the system
