Metal Gear Solid thread

I want MGS5 to be about either Liquid Snake during the Gulf War or Frank Jaeger and how he earned his codename. All of my favorite characters are in MGS1 and I want to see more of them.

I don't mind Rising being considered canon material but it makes the ending of MGS4 seem unceremonious and personally I don't think the series needs any additonal cyberpunk flair; take the series back to the 90s and first half of the 2000s make it feel like MGS1 again.

The only Metal Gear game I've played is Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and I thought it was fantastic.

I actually own MGS3: Snake Eater but I've never got round to playing it.

Loving a game, then buying the sequel which in some fans' opinion is even better and not touching it. :P

If I was you, I'd start playing. If I wasn't, I think I'd do it too, it was a while ago when I last played the series

I've never played any Metal Gear Solid games, although I plan to download the PS1 game off PSN when I clear Abe's Odessyee

In all the years I've been on this forum and all this time I've played Oddworld. I have never seen someone misspell Abe's Oddysee that bad.

I tried to fix it but stupid Firefox doesn't recognize the word "oddysee". I think I'll just refer to it as "AO" from now on.

My reaction:

Seriously though, I hope that we won't play as Solid Snake after MGS4. "MGS5 part II", according to last development, will be set in the 80's, we will play once again, with Naked Snake.

Diamond dogs and all that jazz.

Parody's aside, I did enjoy MSG 3 although the story did seem to ramble on in parts... Very good PS2 game for the time, perhaps I'll give it a replay at some point.

Oh, I've seen those Metal Gear Awesome videos before but they're still funny. I don't normally like that kind of thing, but those are almost spot on. All of the things mocked in that video are the reasons that I like MGS. It's a bit quirky, you have to think outside the box. I'm yet to actually finish #1, I'm stuck on Psycho Mantis after finally beating Grey Fox. I'll probably start it again when I move the PS3 into my room. I have plans to buy the HD collection because I've heard great things about 2 and 3.

I've played lots of #4, but again never finished it. It lost momentum in act 4, which was full of references I didn't understand as it was the first MGS game I played. Act 3 was a load of arse. It was >50% cutscene. After 45 minutes I skipped the ending cinematic.

I have very mixed feelings about the series, but on the whole continue to find things I enjoy.

I have to strongly disagree with you. MGS2 was supposed to be the final chapter. Also, why is Big Boss alive in MGS4? Story-wise, I mean.

Everything I've seen of it looks like they turned up the insanity of MGS 1-3 up several notches and made it more playable. Is that true?
