Sad Game Glitch is preventing me continuing AE

Hi all, I'm new to this forum but certainly not new to forums or the first two oddworld games.

Originally I played the games on my computer that had windows 98 and played them with no problems. I now have a computer with windows XP and the trouble has started.

My problem is with Abe's Exxodus at FD11CO7. It's the part where you have recently entered Feeco Executive Offices and you have to posses the Gluckon (I thinks that's what he is, a guy with no arms) But whenever I posses him he won't talk at all, and won't move unless I press the jump button and then he just dissapears and turns into a rainbow line at the bottom of the screen. If I press the posses button for a little bit to un-posses him then he comes back but he doesn't move or talk.

I think the reason behind this all might be due to the fact AE wasn't able to work at all when I first tried it on XP. The Program Compatability Wizard didn't make any difference, and in the end after scouring the net and trying some random downloads I tried a "fix" that stopped windows from accesing the disk. I have the disk but I thought I would give the download a try as I was desperate. Well it worked in getting the game to play but now this problem has happened.

So now I can't continue the game because I need the Gluckon to do his thing. Does anyone have an idea as to what I could try.

TIA

Pip

This should be in the Oddworld help section- and will shortly be moved there.

Alot of people have had trouble with Oddworld and XP.

:
First you need to go to 'Search Forums', type in 'Exoddus' and 'XP' then see all the results that come up.
Secondly, you need to right-click on the AE shortcut, go to properties. On the Compatibility tab choose Windows 95 compatibility.
Then you should pray, as this sometimes works and sometimes it just doesn't. No-one knows why.

I have spent a lot of time looking for an answer to my problem and have not found one that's why I am asking the forum. The compatability wizard does not work as I said.

I asked the question because sometimes people may come across a problem during there own game play, fix the problem and move on without a second thought. I am hoping someone out there has done just that with the problem I have.

Time Mist... never had or heard of that problem... and I'm one of the few people that AE works under XP for. If it keeps happening, even after you "restart path" or re-load the save, it might be worth starting again {or if you don't care about # Muds saved, use the level select to restart at Feeco Depot}.

Thanks for the reply Adder I did try the restart path, but I didn't try reloading the game at Feeco. I'll give that a try.

Many thanks

It doesn't work, I've had that bug. Either skip path, or download a fix - try Gamecopyworld.com, that's where I got one - the one I picked made some of the LED's spanish though. :P

The only real solution i have come across was when i had a dual boot computer with both xp and win 98.i would play that path on 98 and problem was solved. however despite that part, you would also have similar but greater problems later on in the game so i have no idea what else can be done, unless you try to install win 98 again on your pc. virtual pc and other similar programs didn't help either

Tried switching compatibilty mode of the executable file to Win98 or Win2000? That might do it.
1) Right-click the .exe file you use to launch the game (don't use any of the shortcuts).
2) Click on properties
3) Click on the Compatibility tab
4) Under compatibility mode; click the little box where it says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
5) Select Windows 98, hit OK and try running the game.

If it doesn't work, go through the procedure again and try switching to Windows 2000, then try again.

How come AO and AE work for some people on XP, like me, but don't for others? Maybe it's because I originally ran it on 98?

I think it mite have something to do with the Country Versions.

If so i think theres a patch on http://users.telenet.be/Dieter.Hannes/Oddipus-Complex/ on the downloads page.

AO works fine on XP for me. AE works, but sometimes the sound really mucks up. (That's the only problem I have though)

I've had no problem with either, exept for normal "Abe's still glowing after being invisible" glitches.
I've got the "replay" version of AE running on XP... and some version of AO that came in an old-style cardboard box.

I don't have those glitches either.

Also: If I open and then close AO before playing AE, sound always works fine.

I occasionally have problems with the game unexpectedly closing, but that's all.

In general, the same conversion is sold in Australia as in the UK, what with the similar vocabularies and spellings and whatnot.

It doesn't matter. I can complete the game both extremes in a couple of hours. Who cares if it sets me back a bit, I have the cheats anyway, and I only play fun levels.
