New Oddworld Merch?

If that's official Oddworld merchandise I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

it looks like it's 3d printed.. doesn't look good quality, i wouldn't buy one. I definitely would if it was decent quality though.

I think it's hard to tell from the photo. I'm not an expert, though.

I dunno. i've seen worse 3D printed stuff. That looks pretty good in my opinion.

I 3D printed something 6 hours ago, and that's pretty decent if it is.

I would buy two.

If that's true they are being monumental bastards.

Then why post this in a way fans think it's a teaser for upcoming merchandise and not make it clear it's a one shot custom job? Just take a look at the replies on twitter, most of them are from people ready to buy one.

Well, it could be them testing the waters – “look boss, our Twitter post about the statue got loads of responses, we could sell them”.

The paint job is rather dark but the model quality itself looks alright.

Because... they didn't? I saw that tweet and interpretted it as 'Look at this cool thing we have' and not 'Here's this thing we might be selling'. Anyone who gets their hopes up from that vague tweet has only him/herself to blame for the forthcoming disappointment.

My feeling it that that is a printed prototype. A production model would use a more economical method of scale manufacture.

I've done a fair bit of work with 3D printing for stop-motion animation, and I'm pretty confident that's a high end 3D print, similar to those used for the replacement faces in ParaNorman/Coraline.

The high end machines print with a colour finish too, taken direct from the CAD file/model's texture map. Typically, you get a somewhat blurred and translucent-looking print, which appears to be so here (particularly around the eyes/stitches).

Looking closely it looks like you can just about see the layers too, though that might just be the photo!

Nevertheless, it looks awesome and no doubt cost a lot! Perhaps it's a prototype for a statue?

That's not a bad thing, if you use a PROPER 3D printer, that is.

Yeah, and the wobbly tentacle-things should be just as wobbly as in the game.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool. My point is that a Slig model will be impossible to pose as their feet are basically little spheres.

As long as both legs were on the ground and not too close together it shouldn't be a problem?

I guess they'd have to stick out at a funny angle. Or they could just have a stand.

Yeah, look at bikes, they stand on their own all the time.

Unless they find an other solution I'm pretty sure a Slig model will require a stand.

I was about to tell you that the places a bike makes contact with the ground are in a line and that's different, but then I realised that that's just what happens when you have 2 points of contact. My highschool geometry is failing me.

It's fine, give it a stand. I bought my brother an Alien figure for christmas and every single point can be articulated, down to the mouth-tongue. That has a stand.
I want a Slig one, and I want it right now.

Tabletop Oddworld??

Would love Oddworld figurines. So many great character designs to pick from.
Allready have a handmade awesome Glukkon (made by Radish: https://www.etsy.com/transaction/209428529?) but my shelve could use some more Oddworld for sure!
