Portal: Prelude

:
Portal: Prelude, as its name states it, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees whose work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive. This is why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them in these difficult tasks, but also take responsibility for many other tasks within the complex and compete with Black Mesa's superiority. All employees of the Aperture Science complex are now eagerly awaiting GlaDOS. Maybe even a little too eagerly, as the upcoming events will tell...
Just played through this mod and it's awesome. The creators of this mod really put a lot of work into this and the entire things feels really professional. The test chambers are tricky and detailed (some are just downright frustrating/seemingly imposible) and the story gives some insight in the events leading up to Portal (from a fan's perspective).

Absolutely a must have for any Portal fan. You can get the mod from www.portalprelude.com. Just install it and it will show up in your Steam Library as an installed mod. The game comes with bonus maps and commentary.

Played it ages ago. Good, not great. As good as Portal, basically.

I've been playing it. The robotic voices of the scientists are really grating. They could find at least someone to lend their voice. Even bad voice acting is better than a robot voice.

For robotic voices I didn't even think they sounded so bad. But real voice actors would indeed have made for a better experience, though I don't think that bad voice acting is better than a robot voice.

What a pointless trailer. They should have tried to show off what makes them different to Portal, rather than just chugging out some footage of gameplay that looks identical.

I counted a total of two shots that didn't look like they'd been ripped out of the original game; the one with the guy behind the frosted glass window, and the one with the two people at the desk.

I played it some time after finishing the free version of portal. (it was a bit tricky installing it with the free version).
some parts of the first few levels were nearly impossible. and since i hate frustrations in games (though i really miss the dahaka chases in pop:ww), i resolved to cheating. and i loved it. I would have been a really great game if the dificulty level was equally or slightly harder than the original. but not as hard as it was. the weird jumps in the first few levels were terribly hard and took the joy out of it.

PS. It was a good idea giving portal for free, i am definatelly buying the second game

Yeah some of the jumps in this game are of an 'expert' rating, I suppose. Took me forever to get through some of the most basic rooms. Knew what I had to do but actually doing it was a problem. Especially test chamber 19... holy fuck. Haven't been that frustrated since my Nintendo days.
