Wii U for £250! :o

Is it just me or does that sound like a fortune?
They'd better deliver a lot with the base system for that kind of cash.

It's a lot cheap than the Xbox 360 and PS3 were on launch. Pretty good price for a new console.

Pretty expensive for a new piece of hardware that has the same specs the 360 had on launch 6 years ago...

You do have be a point there. However, if it were new hardware it would probably be aroudn $200 or so more expensive.

Also I don't know the exchange rate between euros and Canadian money so I'm kinda grasping at straws. I just think that, given Nintendo's track record, their systems tend to be worth the price.

Anyone who says the Wii sucks can bite me.

1 Canadian dollar = 0.7712 euros. Though it seems pricing usually manifests this as 1£=2$CAN.

Also, 360 (Core Model, the cheaper option) was EU209.99. Just saiyan.
Thus I formally refuse to pay Five hundred fine Canadibucks just to play Zelda on the toilet. Can't do it, sorry. Maybe if Pikmin was a launch title.

But who plays Zelda anyway? Huh, right? Huhuhuh.

Yeah. The recent Zeldas have been pretty lackluster.

I'll probably end up getting a Wii U though. I always end up getting their consoles.

I want one for Rayman Legends but i'm not getting one any time soon since I only recently got a Wii (which I love so far)

I was suprised to hear that it'll cost Nintendo less than $200 USD to manufacture a Wii U with that controller. I mean it doesn't have an HD screen but it's still the first of it's kind and I thought it would cost them a lot more. Heh, good old Nintendo: the only company that makes a profit on their hardware (even if they have to stay a generation behind now).

I'm afraid the Wii U will drag Nintendo even further behind; personally I think the tablet controller will flop just like motion controls did.

I am looking forward to several titles though, in particular Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends. Hopefully the Pro controller will entice more third-party developers, which was the main draw back of Nintendo's consoles since the N64.

What? the Motion Controllers never flopped. In fact, it was one of the main reasons why the Wii was so popular, (the other being the casual games of course.) Why do you think the other companies made the PSmove and Kinect? The only thing that held Nintendo back recently was the god awful launch of the 3DS.

I'm looking forward to get a Wii U but I'm not buying on launch, Even though the launch titles are pretty strong. The price is in the UK is pretty much what I expected as well, with the basic package is £259.99 and the premium package with ZombieU is around £329.99.

They didn't flop in terms of sales. But regardless of platform, Motion controls add nothing to a game; 99% they feel tacked on a redundant. I'm not attacking Nintendo specifically, I detest the movement to motion controls as a whole.

The implementation of motion controls, so far, has just been incredibly disappointing. Even for games for which the concept is awesome, like Dragonball Z games where you can take the poses and do the attacks in your living room, suffer because the hardware is shit. There certainly is a place for motion control but the hardware needs to be improved a LOT.

Oh well yes I agree motion controller need work. Probably the best games so far with motion controls are Skyward Sword and Wii Sports Resort but that's because they have motion plus in them.

Hopefully they can make motion controls better because they are fun to use when they work.

The motion controls in Skyward Sword were alright but goddamn the sections where you had to fall and land in the right spot with the wiimote.

I actually like the Wii controller for shooters, I wish the PS3 controller gave the option of using the controller as a laser pointer for the crosshairs.

I just wish Nintendo would stop with the fucking gimmicks so developers don't have to spend the first half of the console's life cycle trying to shoehorn it into their games. I can't think of a single Wii game apart from Wii Sports that NEEDED motion controls. Like, that was the only game, the one that the system was packaged with, that made me think 'Hey this motion control stuff really adds to the experience.'

Kinect is a different story. Kinect games don't use a controller designed to be held 8 different ways and then shoved laterally up your butt. It's not dependent on Force Feedback. You are the controller, literally. And that is good. The Wii is great for the games that are actually video games. No More Heroes, Monster Hunter Tri, SUPAH MARIO GALAXIEEEEE all excellent, all perfectly functional without motion controls. I don't think the console was a failure but whatever market-altering intentions Nintendo had with it (if any) fell flat on their face.

In short: Motion controls are for fucking losers and the Irish.

I think when people focus on Wii games they forget brilliant games like No More Heroes 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Smash Bros. They aren't all shovelware.

I probably will get one eventually, but not before it gets cheaper than £150 that's for sure. (Until I get a job that is!)

I hope they release a new, proper 3D Mario game because I'm sick and tired of New Super Mario Bros. NSMB2 was a joke and this new one coming for Wii U is EXACTLY the same as the Wii game.

They will. They always do with their new consoles; the Wii one even got a sequel.

And yeah, I'm tired as hell of the New Super Mario Bros. games. After like 3 or 4 of the same rehashed gameplay, there's really nothing "new" about them.

I'd love a Super Mario 3D land equivalent for the Wii U, that game deserves the full console treatment.

I think Nintendo need to start marketing towards a new audience altogether.

Ever. That's like saying McDonalds needs to stop serving burgers.

And it's really not a tired franchise in general. The New Super Mario broa, maybe. But in general, it's still pretty consistent.

I wouldn't say it's a worn franchise, it's doing far better than a lot of other franchises to say it's been going on for so long. It's just one of those timeless franchises that won't be stopping for a long time.

This is an opinion, Mario games still sell very well to this day, even though it has changed a lot. It's selling well so there isn't a huge need to get rid.
