In terms of visual appeal, I prefer the 2D games. But in terms of visual interaction, I prefer the 3D games.

I wish they would make a game with the cool feel of AO, the humor of AE, the fun...ness of SW, and with way better 3D graphics. All those good parts of the other games would make the perfect OW game.

Nothing from MO was really that good...except the vykkers and munch himself.

I prefer the 3D games. Like SW. I think it's harder (and more interesting) to play so. And you also can see all persons in almost every perspectives .

I like the 2D style because of the detail they put into each screen and I got use to it but the first time I played MO I had alot of trouble making the transition, I had the same problem with Super Mario 64.

I prefer the 2D style, since there isn't much room for art in the 3D, it's more the game mechanics...I suppose that one just has to be sacrificed for the other.

I suppose that the industrial environments are tolerable in 3D, but when it comes down to the native, it just...doesn't fit.

I'm probably going to get murdered for this, but Stranger's Wrath, while I'm sure it was a brilliant game, just didn't feel like Oddworld. It seemed like some other place, and what's the worst is when people play SW, they think that's all that Oddworld has to offer. Same thing I'd expect to happen with Fangus, except on a much larger scale.

Blah, I can't vote on this because I haven't played the 3D games yet, only seen loads previews. But from what I've seen and heard from others, the 2D platformers were a lot better, because they seem to have a lot more detail in, were more artistic, had graphics that weren't limited by polygons and computer hardware (Sprites FTW), and overall had a much better atmosphere that was aimed at an older audiance compared to the 3D games. . .

Some screens I've seen/been shown from SW look really nice though.

If you've ever played Half-Life 2 and read "Raising the Bar", and also played Beyond Good and Evil, you'll know that mixing artwork into a 3D world, and also making realistic, beautiful natural landscapes in a 3D world is perfectly possible if they tried hard enough. :P (see the preview movie of Half-Life 2: Episode 2 if you don't believe me - It's on Google Vids somewhere)

Actaully it'd be funny if Valve re-made Abe's Oddysee in 3D, putting as much detail into it as they put into Half-Life 2. . . Hmm. :P It'd never happen, but if it did, I'd really want to see the results.

Maybe OWI should've made thier 3D games for the PC instead of making them for consoles - With the ammount of detail they wanted to put into their games, but couldn't because of hardware constraints, it wouldn't of been too much of a problem on the PC. Then they could of done what they did with Doom 3 and HL2 - Made toned-down versions for the consoles.

Thing with that though, is that Beyond Good and Evil was made for several consoles and was also on PC - Looks fantastic on every platform. Maybe OWI should of just done what Ubisoft did and broadended thier horizons - I dunno though.

Come on people - Stop reading this and pick it apart already. :P

It was just an innocent comment. No need to dog on about it.

To DH: I believe you, but I was speaking particularly about the Oddworld games...sorry if I haven't made that clear at first.

I can't say much for the 3d games.

MO,I don't see why people hate it so much.I like the parts where you have to posses Big Bro's and clear the area, the part in the slog hut where you have to carry scrubs past the gauntlet of slogs, mines, and sligs, and using the crane.

Yes, it was also fun for me to possess the Big Bros.
But I guess it's just the environments in SW which I like so much. You know... the moods and stuff like music. *shrugs*

MO was just not fun...and OWI for some reason decided to make the humor cornier also. The levels in MO seem just so tedious and bland to me. And I hate that they made the glukkons look a lot less scary.

And something off of what I was saying...I still can't get why my friends suck so much at SW. I guess it does have different gameplay elements than the typical shooter.

Definitely 2D for me. The environments and characters were so detailed and looked great. The levels were a challenge and made you think alot.

Munch's Oddysee didn't have very good gameplay in my opinion and the native areas didn't look quite right. However Stranger's Wrath was great and seemed alot more like the older OW games.

Nah it was pretty straightforward it took me longer to beat MO because I was petrified to drop any of the egg crates which was a cool feature made possible by the 3D graphics engine!

I haven't played 3D games (I STILL hate the move to Xbox...gits), but I doubt I'd like them so much. The odler ones were what I played, and I loved them for almost everything about them, but the gameplay was one of the best parts. I don't know if the same sort of thing would work so well in 3D. Plus the posession system seems different. Plus, I can't see Abe being strong enough to lift another Mudokon or a Slig in it's heavy metal pants. Humans find it difficult to lift another similar sized person, but Abe can toss them, for pete's sake. I thuoght Mudokons were meant to be WEAK.
SW...may be good, but obviously it would play far differently to the other styles. Maybe different from my liking...*shrugs*. Is it anything like Ratchet and Clank? I may have thought so, even if only roughly similar.
But...l,ooking at it, SW's creatures are all...well, human, really, which defeats the object. Almost no animals, but lots of sentient, talking beings. Plus Clakkers are SO uninventive. Gay looking things.
I'd like to see more 2D games, maybe with Munch would be good. And swimming and diving sections with more water creatures, like Sea Rexes acting roughly like underwater versions of Scrabs (big, mean, fast and hungry). 2D would work with that too.
