I certainly wouldn't hang out with someone who put so much thought into what I wear.

Amber, I think you should start wearing less clothing.
What I don't like is when people flip because you bought a band shirt/patch/button or something at a major store... it's as if you're committing some crime against the Indie Gods. If it's a product for any major current band, then it's going to be overpriced no matter where you buy it, even if it's out of some hole-in-the-wall records store or no-name website. As for older bands that actually
DID stand for something, they're all either broken up or dead, so who the fu
ck cares? But the other stores... they're independent, even though they carry mainstream products, so buying from them is the right thing to do, regardless of inconvenience.
Because driving an extra 30 miles to get to a store I wouldn't go to normally is so punk rock.
It's like you have to options. Go to Hot Topic, buy a shirt for $17, take it home with you.
OR you could pay $7 shipping for a $10 shirt from some random website that you've never heard of, and wait 4-10 weeks, depending on the legitimacy of the website, for your treasured article of clothing. I'll take Hot Topic. Give me convenience or give me death. Oh, the irony.
Seriously, though. Who cares if Hot Topic is owned by the same company as Abercrombie? They're supplying a service to an ever-growing demand. I don't necessarily agree with all of the products that Hot Topic sells, nor do I enjoy many of the people who shop there, but it's just capitalism, folks. It's how it fu
cking works.
I still shop at indie websites and record stores. I just fail to see the problem with stopping by the mall and purchasing a shirt or a button if I'm in the neighborhood.
