Dare I say Abe's Exoddus...drags a little?

Did anyone else find this?

I've completed Oddysee...god knows how many times before, but I'm currently actually only on my first ever play through of Exoddus. For the most part I'm loving it of course, but did anyone else find that it drags a little towards the end?

Admittedly I work full-time so I don't have as much time to play games as I used to, but after spending what felt like an age in the Slig Barracks, I quickly glanced at a walkthrough just to see how much further in the game I had left, only to find I've still got the entirety of Bonewerkz and the Soulstorm Brewery to get through.

I'm sure I'll end up finishing it, because ya know...it's Oddworld, but did anyone else find themselves getting a little bored around this point too?

I know I've not even finished it yet, but for this reason I think I *personally* will always, always prefer Oddysee.

I did, actually. What's weird is the part where I usually start saying "huh this feels like it's been a while" is one of my favorite parts of the game, and that's the slig barracks. I think, for me, part of the reason is doing the paramite and scrab trials were my least favorite part and after doing them I felt a bit tired of it.

I still think AE is an amazing game, of course, and it's not like it feels like it's been covered in time filler instead of original quality game.

I just finished up a run of AE a couple days ago actually, and I disagree. It’s a longer game for sure, but the puzzles are changed up enough to keep things fresh and besides Necrum and the Brewery most of the other areas are fairly short. There’s enough variety in the mechanics to it to keep me interested for longer than AO usually does – I’ve managed more complete AE runs than AO.

That may be because I’m really really good at AE though, and I managed to find a bunch of good shortcuts and had some good luck in my last run.

Yeah, I think there's enough visual variety - and the goal of defeating each major Glukkon head one at a time - that keeps it interesting for me personally.

Although, I still think the Bonewerkz is the most uninteresting part of the game (besides the great Phleg puzzle.)

The only part where it dragged on in my opinion was after the first zulag hub. You complete that, then there's another hub. And then another... And unlike AO, it's not just three doors either.

And how about that Dripik puzzle with the mines?

Help! Hey! Come here! Help! Hey! Come here! Help! Hey! Come here!

It does drag a little once you get out of Necrum mines. I always felt that the vaults were a bit dull, definitely could've had some fat trimmed off of 'em. It's kinda bland visually, too.

Other than that though, game is pretty damn near perfect.

The finale of Bonewerkz still haunts my dreams.

I don't think Exoddus drags too much. I like how it was a longer game than Oddysee and I liked how it got gradually more difficult. I do think the vaults were only in the game to fill the quota of more Scrabs and Paramites. But the fact you can possess them made them better areas anyway.

The only part of Exoddus I felt drags on a bit too much is Necrum, with the Vaults. The mines and everything after the Vaults is amazing.

It might just be nostalgia (but it probably isn't, since I never finished it since last year even though I first played it 11 years ago), but Abe's Exoddus is IMO the best game of all time.

The semi frequent cut scenes really helped feel the journey. Now that I think about it, that was what made the temples drag for me. Each cut scene was way too predictable to me. "Oh what's gonna happen is abe gonna get another tattoo?" *Abe gets another tattoo* "Wow. Very surprised."

The only thing that bugged me about Exoddus is that in AO, two little hand tats give him the ability to turn into a vengeful Godd, while the arguably better tattoo only gives him the same abilities as a glass of water and an aspirin...

I was playing Abe's Exoddus for several years before I started playing Abe's Oddysee, and even now I have much more fun playing it.

I dislike doing runs of Abe's Oddysee because despite it being a shorter game it always seems so much more sluggish that Abe's Exoddus.
Abe's Exoddus has enough visual diversity to keep it interesting - even as a kid I was blown away at the contrast between Necrum Mines and Necrum.

Abe’s Exoddus holds three things over Oddysee: the Quicksave function massively reducing frustration, the more diverse set of controls, enemies and hazards creating huge amounts of puzzle variety, and the increased number of locations visited which all have unique aesthetics and give you plenty of sweet environments to look at.

While it doesn’t have the same story impact as AO due to being a side game, it beats it in pretty much every other category.

Perhaps that tattoo grants more healing abilities than what we’ve seen in the games so far?

I think Abe's Exoddus has a good story. Not ground breaking, but it holds up. Couple that with its better-than-Oddysee gameplay and more interesting puzzles, it owns that bitch's ass
