Half a decade of misery and self-loathing for you all.

Riveting stuff, isn't it?

Money can't buy happiness.

You find joy in the simple things. Accumulation of wealth is not one of my life time goals.

But dying happily saving everyone from a race of brain suckers from the planet WAT.

Or just feeling content before dying in a bed surrounded by loved ones is fine too.

Wut? How is it possible to live through three centuries by living to only one hundred?

From 1995 (1900s) through the 2000s to 2101.

By George he's right.

And bull shit Dix, money can buy happiness, even winning the lottery makes everyone happy, just hearing about it would make you speechless, before you spent 1p.

Money doesn't always provide happiness. Perhaps materialistic happiness from being able to buy nice things, but there are some things money can't buy such as love and friendship.

Every lottery winner ends up miserable over time.

People use you for your money, while those who don't drift away from you because you care more about coin than them.

You could say, 'oh, if I get rich I'll still see my friends'. Naah, it never works out. Before you know it you'll end up as a socialite watching Made in Chelsea sipping your Evercreek champagne.

Winning the lottery would make me damn happy, I'll tell you for nothing. A substantial amount would make me ecstatic.

Hell, I'd give all my friends and family each £1,000,000. I'd put money away for a car, a house, money for any time I'm unemployed, university fees, and I'd pay for my parents house to be finally done up so it looks like a presentable home, oh and I'd pay a gardener to look after the garden too, if I had anything left over I'd buy my dad a château in France with a vineyard outside and put the rest in the bank. Something I'd thought over so many times. That would make me happy.

Agreed with those who said that money doesn't buy happiness - It's something that has to be earned. Sure, money can provide you with material goods and make your life a bit more comfortable if you're sensible with it and don't waste it on useless expensive crap that you don't need, but by itself, it can't buy you true friendship, love, or any meaningful relationship.

@STM & Ridg3:
I hate to burst your bubbles but winning the lottery is a complete pipe dream that nobody should aim for, since the chances of winning are so astronomically low. Face it, nobody really needs millions to make their lives happier - I could get everything I wanted, material-wise at least, for a few hundred thousand.

If you want to go down the gambling route, save up some money that you won't mind losing (by not spending £2 a week on playing lottery over a few months, for example), then make sensible bets on sport at Ladbrokes, or take it down the nearest casino. Chances are you won't win a damned thing but at least the chances of winning are so, so incredibly much higher.

I'm with STM, I wouldn't waste my money competing against thousands of other people to win the money that will most likely roll over to the next draw.

I'm just saying, having a great deal of money would make me happier.

One of the most important things to learn in life is that happiness is a journey, not a destination. Everyone I know who plans their life around doing shitty things now so that they'll be better at a later date is miserable and they tend to remain miserable as they never actually acheive what they had planned. Or they acheive it, but find out that it isn't quite as grand as they had expected. On the other hand, the people who work hard to make each day happy might not acheive it every single time, but they run a pretty damned good average.

My goal isn't to be rich or famous. It's to get a job I like and not be a miserable fuck all of my life. That's why I'm pursuing the flute. If nothing else I can teach locally and earn my way, which would be fairly easy and enjoyable.

My goal isn't to earn lots of money. Sure, that would be a nice product of my efforts, but as long as I land myself a job that I really enjoy doing and have my boyfriend and family there for me, I will be perfectly content. I don't ever expect to win a large sum of money, and I don't wish for it to happen either. I wouldn't even know what to do with it.

That's incomputable as my own happiness is derived from making other people happy.

It also means I'm deeply deeply mentally ill.

I geared my life towards total uncompromising happiness, the last few weeks I've been trying to do what makes me happy so long as it isn't at the cost of other people, because surely the meaning of life is happiness?

"The meaning of life" does not appear to make sense, which may go some way to explaining why no one can figure out what it is. Like "the meaning of tables" or "the meaning of stellar evolution". It's nonsense.
